POV:Aletta

Blood.

Thick scarlet red blood.

It's everywhere, on my clothes, my skin and in my mind.

Bella is in hysterics on the floor crying and hyperventilating. Her white t-shirt is now a bright red and her hands are covered in the same dried substance.

I kneel down beside her and embrace her as she sobs on my shoulder.

"Deep breaths" I say to her while doing just that.

Her breaths are staggered and sobs. She clings to my top and I give her a tight squeeze to reassure her.

I look up from her and drastically the double doors opposite us fling open and a very stressed, and very worried Alex appears.
He immediately spots us and runs straight over to us.

"What happened?!" He quickly asks, panic stricken; he grabs Bella and brings her into a tight embrace as she sobs louder at his question.

He looks at me with a panicked, pleading facial expression but all I can do is stare.

I look down at my lap and see the blood coating me. There was so much blood.

Bella cries out in agony. The screams were so loud.

I clench my fists. I could have stopped this...

A tear rolls down my cheek as I lift my head up to see the two hugging.

Bella has finally stopped crying and now has a blank face. A face I know all to well. It's the face you get when you've drained yourself dry of tears and can no longer weep.
When you realise you've reached your limit.

When you've gone numb...

Alex is still hugging her, just as worried as before.
I get up off my knees and turn around to go get a glass of water when Alex calls out to me, asking me to wait.

I stand plainly watching him lead Bella to a chair. He then approaches me and I know what he's going to ask.

"I'm going to get a glass of water" I blankly say.
He nods and responds that he'll get Bella one as well.

We arrive down at the canteen, and he doesn't even wait until we reach the water machine.

"Why are we at the hospital Aletta?" He questions plainly, no emotion showing on his face.
I gulp and signal for him to sit down.

He sits and I bring two cups of water that I just filled up handing him one.
I take a sip and stare him in the eyes.
His face may be blank, but his eyes are pleading, worried.

After a deep breath I start to explain, getting choked up as I do. He does nothing, just stares at me and listens.

"We were just driving back from the mall when we saw a car," I started.
"The car wasn't driving steady and was going at like 100 miles an hour. It quickly pulled off the road and was heading into the forest so we trailed the car knowing something was very wrong..." Tears begin to fall down my face and I put a hand on my chest as I take deep breaths.

"I-I could have stopped it. Oh my gosh, I'm so so sorry Alex." I choke out.

"What happened Aletta! Tell me."he exclaims.

"It was going so fast. We could barely keep up. T-there was a tree in the way, a-and... they collided" I burst into tears and Alex moves across the table to sit next to me and places a comforting hand on my shoulder.

"Who was in the car?" He asks calmly.

I cry even harder and after about 10 minutes I whisper, "Angelo."

His jaw flexes and his fists ball up. He storms off.

I slowly rise from the chair and carry the two glasses of water along the hall as I reach Bella.
She is still sat blankly staring at the white wall ahead of her. I sit next to her and pass her a glass of water. She takes it from me but does nothing with it.

"Daaaaad" a little boy along the hall says.
"Why are those two girls covered in blood? Are they homeless." He innocently questions.

"Peter! You can't say things like that! And no, I'm sure they're not homeless." The dad replies.

Bella sends the little boy a deadly glare causing him to hide behind his dad who is speaking to a nurse.

She stands up, launches the glass at the floor and storms off.
A nurse nearby calls out to her to tell her off but it's no use, Bella has already stormed off.

About 15 minutes later when the cleaner has cleared all the glass away a doctor wearing a paper face mask walks over to me.
"Bella DeLorento, is it?" He questions.
"No, sir I'm her friend Aletta. Do you have any news on how he is doing?" I ask.

"I'm sorry miss but I can not give you any information on the patient as you are not immediate family. If you call Miss DeLorento, I can update her on his current situation."
"Of course, I'll call her right away" I reply reaching for my phone.

I call Bella and she picks up immediately. I explain to her that the doctor has an update and she immediately rushes back.
I don't have Alex's number but there's no need as he walks through the door right away.

I explain exactly what I said to Bella and we wait until she gets here.

When she arrives they both enter the room where Angelo is being kept and I pace up and down, nervous at what happens.

Will he survive? Is he dead? Are they ok?

I had so many questions spiralling out of control in my head like a violent tornado.

Alex walks out to me and asks me to come in. Obediently, I follow him.

I gasp as I see Angelo hooked up to a life support machine. His face has a cut that runs along the left side of his forehead and down to his eyebrow.

His right arm is in a cast. He has another cut on his left hand, which Bella clings to with both of hers as well as bruises all over his body.

I'm so happy he is alive I couldn't live with the fact that I could have stopped someone from dying.

"He had to have an operation on his ribs, to move them as they would have punctured his right lung if not done, as well as a cast put on his right arm since he has broken it. Also the doctor said that it's highly likely that he may have a concussion. He said he was very lucky and should wake up within the next two hours." Alex states.

I let out a long breath that I didn't realise I was holding in and hugged Alex.
"I'm so glad he's okay, Alex" I smiled up at him.

"Thank you for being here with us Aletta, you didn't have to." Bella says gratefully.

"Its no problem at all. I'll probably go home for a couple hours now and explain to papa where I've been all this time." I say while walking over to give her a hug.
"I'll come back in a couple of hours, do you want a lift home, or do you want me to bring anything for either of you?" I question.

"No thanks, you've done so much for us already!" Bella exclaims.

"It's honestly no problem."

"It's fine." She smiles at me gently.

"Okay well, I'll be back in a couple hours, but let me get you some clothes from my car first."

Before she is able to protest, I walk out into the car park and head for my small Ford Fiesta. I grab one of Bella's new outfits (its lucky we went shopping and I still had the stuff in my car) and walked back towards the hospital.

Why did I park so far away?! Is all I can think when I reach the hospital doors 30 minutes later.

I go to the ward to give Bella the outfit when I hear a shriek.

"WHERE THE HELL IS HE?!?!?!"

Oh no...
