Chapter 54.

*****

"Alex," Clyde repeated my name as I began sobbing. I didn't reply and I heard him walk over to me before I felt his hand rub my head as his other hand grabbed my shoulder. "Listen to me, he's okay." I stopped and blinked.

"'Okay'?" I looked at him lifting my arm to wipe my tears. He grinned.

"More than okay; he woke up."

"He woke up?" My voice was mixed with Ben's.

"He woke up." Clyde grinned as he nodded.

I stared at him feeling my heart pond in my chest.

"Really?" I whispered.

"I would not lie to you about this. Really." Clyde said.

I gave a cough of laughter as I ran my hands through my hair. Clyde chuckled as he hugged me.

"I'll lock the safe." Ben said.

I had completely forgotten about that. I nodded before I walked out and Clyde followed me. We drove to the hospital in his car and we ran up to the floor Sergio was on before I stopped and held grabbed Clyde's shoulder to stop him.

"He's okay?" I repeated looking at him.

He looked down the hall towards the waiting room.

"As okay as he can be right now." He said biting his lip.

I frowned looking down the hall before I made my way towards Sergio's room. I stepped in slowly, wondering where his mother was when I found that there was no one but him in the room. I held my breath as I stared at him. His bed was tilted helping him sit up and he was staring towards the window. I gave a squeak of a laugh finally letting myself believe he was awake and his eyes snapped to me. His hand tightened around the bottle of water in his hands.

"Sergio." I smiled as I reached his bed.

He stared at me blankly before he leaned back a little, his arm rising as if he was trying to shield himself.

"Doctor? Nurse?" He asked running his narrowed eyes over me. "You – you're not in uniform..." He mumbled.

I felt my heart sink. No. No. The doctor had said there was a huge possibility that if he woke up he would have some type of brain injury. This wasn't happening. I shook my head.

"Uh – no. I don't work here... I'm-I'm Alex... You know me." I said, my voice laced with the desperation I felt.

He shook his head slowly; he looked confused and a little unsettled by my presence. This couldn't be happening right now. I sank into the chair beside him and leaned my head on the edge of his bed as I felt more tears run down my face. I had never felt the way I had in the past few weeks in my life and every time things seemed to be getting better it would just get worse. It was a terrible rollercoaster. I clenched my fist trying to hold back or at least quieten my sobs.

I froze as I felt his hand run through my hair slowly.

"Alexander, I'm joking." his voice sounded more guilty than amused.

I stopped. Is he fucking serious? I grit my teeth as I wiped my eyes but I didn't look up.

"Alex... Seriously, I'm alright." He gave a nervous laugh, "I know who you are, I love you."

I looked up at him and he bit his lip as he leaned further back from me. He actually looked scared.

"I'm sorry, I couldn't resist... The doctor told me amnesia had been a serious possibility... so I had to..." he mumbled.

I grabbed his shirt feeling pissed. He looked shocked, even as he groaned slightly. I was trying not to hurt him too much, but I enjoyed the little bit of pain I had managed to give him. How the hell could he 'joke' about this?!

"Death was a possibility too, and it still is, Asshole." I glared into his eyes.

He grinned.

"I love it when you get like – Ah –" He yelled out when I shoved him back annoyed. "Are you trying to make me bleed again?" He groaned and I just gave him a glare. "I'm sorry, Babe." he said.

I shook my head. He pouted.

"I'll make you lemon meringue?" He asked giving me a hopeful grin.

I didn't reply to him, my eyes still glared into his.

"I'll wear shorts for a month. Come on, Alex, I just woke up." he frowned dropping his gaze to his lap as he mumbled that.

I stared at him before I began laughing. He smiled as he kissed my cheek.

"Your lips feel like sandpaper." I covered his mouth.

"That's not my fault!" he protested into my hand. I laughed kissing his forehead. He took my hand into his and smiled at me. "You alright?" He asked lifting his other hand to my cheek.

"You're asking me that?" I asked.

"Jordan was here when I woke up. You look worse than he described... I'm sorry." I shook my head.

"I get the amnesia trick but Jordan doesn't. Great." I rolled my eyes. He gave laugh before it turned into a groan as he lifted his hand to one of the wounds still healing on his chest.

"I don't like getting shot."

"Maybe choose a profession where it's not very lightly to happen then."

"I'll think about it." I frowned at him, "I mean being a policeman, Alexander." He rolled his eyes.

"There's no way they would even consider you." I said.

"Love the support I'm getting from you." He gave me a flat look before he chuckled, "Help me play the same trick on Dave and Ben? You just have to walk out of here looking really down."

"No, that's ridiculous. You're evil. We've all been worried sick about you and now you want to play games?" I shook my head frowning at him.

"Being evil is fun. Now help me, please? That worry wasn't my idea, this is." He said giving me a hopeful gaze.

"You're going to go to hell, Sergio." I said.

"Any place is paradise as long as I'm with you." I looked at him before I laughed.

"Whoa, that's lame."

He gasped faking hurt. "I'm never going to try to be romantic with you again."

I just kept laughing.

"Fine! Just do this for me?" I shook my head, "Do it or I'll have you kidnapped again." I raised my brows. "I'm joking. Please, Alex?" I chuckled before I sighed as I glanced at the door uncertainly.

"Fine. You're an Asshole." I said.

"You love this Asshole." he smiled at me. I stared down at him. I missed his smile so much, and his laugh, and his hazel eyes.

"I love this Asshole." I agreed. He chuckled brushing his lips against my own.

"Now go, I want to see their faces!" He said excitedly.

I groaned before I chuckled. I gave him another kiss before I stood up and looked at him. I gave a sigh feeling my eyes tear up. He lowered his brows.

"You're just acting right?" He asked slowly. I smiled. "That's going to be a problem..." he mumbled.

"You said Dave and Ben." I wanted to be sure.

"Yeah, I didn't want to hurt my Mom more so I didn't play this trick on her. She's getting me some clothes so they haven't seen her."

I nodded and turned to leave.

"Oh, and Alex?" he said and I stopped, "You don't look good with facial hair." he frowned.

I chuckled shaking my head before I made my way out of his room.

I walked into the waiting room but I stumbled when I was pulled into a suffocating hug by David.

"Is he okay?" he mumbled into my shoulder. I felt so bad for what I was about to do because I could hear how scared he was.

"He's awake." I mumbled.

"What's that supposed to mean?" he looked at me, his eyes terrified. I felt my heart clench. Damn it, Sergio.

I shrugged wiping my eyes as I moved by him and sat on a seat looking down at my hands.

"Are you alright?" Jordan's voice was confused as he and Clyde sat beside me. I shook my head leaning my face into my hands.

I heard feet shuffling before I looked up and found that David had left the room with Ben and Cooper. I leaned back to sit properly and Jordan and Clyde stared at me confused.

"Sergio has it in his head that it's a good idea to pretend to have amnesia." I explained.

They looked shocked before Jordan began laughing.

"That's just wrong." Clyde shook his head slowly.

"But it's genius though. I wish I could do that."

"You're both assholes." I shook my head as I referred to Jordan and Sergio.

"Hey, you're helping him." Clyde pointed out.

"Yeah... guess he's rubbed off on me." I frowned. He laughed.

"Alex, are you alright?" I smiled as Claire walked in followed by Shiloh. I stood up and hugged her while I nodded.

"I'm – I'm great." I chuckled as I let her go.

I was amazing. He was okay, and that was all that mattered to me right now.

She smiled before her smile fell and she smacked me.

"What...?" I asked shocked and confused as I lifted my hand to the part of my chest where she had hit me.

"Diego? Sergio? Seriously, Alexander? I've been worried sick about both of you and I didn't even know his name."

"You lied to her about Sergio, Alex?" Jordan faked a gasp. Claire looked at him, "I didn't know about anything!" I shot him a glare before I looked at Shiloh. He told her?

"I figured she should know his real name if you're going to stay with him. Also, it was becoming confusing." he said. Right.

"I'm sorry, I didn't want you to get hurt... and when he got hurt... I didn't want you to be mad at me for keeping everything from you, I just had too much to deal with.... I'm really sorry, Claire." I said.

"I understand." She said, "And I'm fine, Alex. Are you alright?"

"I've never been better." I smiled hugging her again.

"You're a piece of shit." I didn't look up as Ben walked into the waiting area.

"It wasn't my idea. Shut up, Ben. You're ruining something." I said and Claire laughed.

"Fuck you, Alexander. Sergio's doctor says it's alright for all of us to see him before visiting hours end."

-----

It had been a couple of days since Sergio woke up and I had shaven my face clean. I really let myself go for a while there... I had cleaned up properly and I now found myself in his hospital room. His doctor said he would be good to go in a few more days after they ran a few more tests and made sure he was recovering well. Mrs Marquez and Kent had left to get Sergio more clothing because David had forgotten the bag at the apartment when they were coming here. Still, Sergio had quite a few guests right now; it was probably for the best that he did not share a room with anyone with all of us being here.

"Okay, so just out of curiosity's sake, who would the house have gone to if you died?" David immediately got a smack on the back of his head from Clyde for asking that. He gave a weird hiss back.

"Ben." Sergio replied nonchalantly as he continued to a game on his phone.

"Ben?!" David sounded outraged and Ben's face was shocked.

"Yeah, I like him more than you." Sergio smirked, "Not more than you, Alex." I chuckled as David glared at Ben but Ben was still staring at Sergio shocked. "Don't look so stunned, you were always one of my favourites." I was confused, Sergio hadn't even looked up but he knew Ben's reaction.

Ben's eyes moved to me and he smirked. Did he think I was jealous?

"I already own a house." I said trying to explain why I would not be jealous of him.

"Because of your parents."

"I still own it, plus I'm renting with Jordan and I'm at least ten years younger than you are." his smirk dropped.

"What the fuck?"

"You started this." I replied.

"You're a little brat." Cooper sneered at me.

"You're unemployed." I pointed out. Everyone now knew Sergio had no intention of continuing the gang. Of course he still had weapons, they all did. They had enemies that weren't just going to disappear.

Jordan laughed.

"Why are you laughing? You'll still live with your parents when you finish school." I bit the inside of my cheek not to laugh as Ben said that.

"Did you even finish school?" Jordan asked him.

"Yes." Ben frowned.

"Shocking. Your mother should have demanded her money back." I laughed along with David and Ben glared at Jordan.

"I'm sure that's what your parents did after they used the condom that caused you." There was more laughter from David and Cooper while Ben and Jordan glared daggers at each other.

I shook my head spacing out of their bickering as I looked back towards Sergio.

"Is it weird that I kind of wish that I didn't wake up right now?" Sergio mumbled to Shiloh as he glanced at the two men before looking at Shiloh and then back to the game again. My brows rose.

"No." Shiloh shook his head. "There must be some general anaesthetic somewhere close..." he mumbled looking around.

"Can you find it? Or morphine? The doctor said I didn't need it anymore so he took it away." Sergio frowned.

I tilted my head. Were they actually having this conversation?

"Morphine, yeah. I could definitely find some of that. Should I go now –?"

"No." Claire shook her head at the pair and they both rolled their eyes.

"You can't tell me what to do." Sergio frowned at her.

"Oh, you want to bet?" She asked. Sergio opened his mouth but Shiloh nudged his shoulder.

"Don't. Just let it go unless you want to be in here longer." Shiloh muttered to Sergio.

I expected Sergio to roll his eyes and tell Shiloh to grow some balls but instead he just frowned and went back to his game mumbling something about how annoying Claire was and I was reminded that he was actually a little afraid of her (even though he tried to hide it) because she had hurt his arm when he had tried to eat her piece of pizza yesterday. Claire didn't play games like that.

I laughed.

Okay, so I lied... not really. Technically this is the last chapter but I'll be adding an epilogue in a few days! :D I was going to kill Sergio (remember when Ezra got shot and I said that if he died there would be too much death?)... but I decided to spare your hearts :). Lol.
