Rayver POV

"So... Where are we going..?"

"..."

Okay then. Silence it is.

I bit my bottom lip to stop any word-vomit that might come out. She might not appreciate that.

Not that there's anyone that would appreciate someone rambling.

I let my mind drift to what happened earlier.

After my rant, when we were quiet, I noticed something flash quickly in Ina's eyes. Like, an emotion.

I quickly dismissed the thought.

How would she feel an emotion? The whole time I've been with her never had I seen any feeling or emotion in her.

When she let me go, I went to my room and did what she said. I took a quick bath and changed into a navy blue hoodie, light-washed jeans, and maroon sneakers.

I glanced at her. Once again, we were unconsciously matching. But like always, black was her colour.

The car stopped suddenly, snapping me out of my staring. I looked forward and saw that we were... In front of a diner.

I looked at her with a silent question, but either she didn't notice, or she ignored me.

She ignored you.

How I missed those ten days without you.

Well, too bad, so sad.

I rolled my eyes at their banter. One time, when the female voice was rambling, I was so, so close to figuring out who she was.

But then, she stopped talking altogether.

It's like she's hiding somethi--

"Are you coming or not?!" Regina's voice snapped at me.

I sheepishly smiled in apology and got out of the car. I turned my head to take a better look at the diner.

MagnifiSweet.

That's one cool name... But, why were we here?

Regina walked to the entrance, so I followed her.

The door opened, emitting a bell ringing at the top. Looking around the place, I noticed that it wasn't a diner.

It was a café.

Not just that, but it was filled with sweets. Cakes, pastries, cupcakes, muffins, shakes, smoothies, and so much more!

But again, what were we doing here?

Looking around the place, another thing that stood out was the people here.

Why? Well, everyone looked rich and expensive!

A movement on my right caused me to snap my head in that direction, and I saw Ina walking to a booth in the corner.

I followed her while looking around the place. It had a cool and cute colour palette. Like the place's goal was to emit a comfortable, but luxurious aura.

I sat on the leather cushion in front of Regina and saw a menu in front of me. I picked it up and my eyes widened at the prices.

As quick as I could, I dropped the menu on the table, my eyes still wide open in shock.

How can something so small cost so big?!

"What's with you?" I looked up and saw Regina looking at me with a raised brow.

"T-the prices are too... High. I can't afford anything here!" I said to her.

She rolled her eyes, and said, "Just pick something. Nobody said you're paying."

If my eyes were big before, I'd bet they were the size of saucers now.

I opened my mouth to complain, but she shot me a glare, forcing me to shut it back. She glanced at the menu, then back at me. A silent order to choose something.

I reopened it and told myself to just take the one with the cheapest amount.

"Hello, are you ready to take your order?" A female voice said.

I looked away from the menu and to the middle-aged, nice-looking lady.

"One chocolate supreme for me," Regina said. She turned to me and asked, "You?"

"O-one plain waffle, please," I answered.

The two of them abruptly snapped their eyes to me when I said my order. Their eyebrows were either furrowed or one of them raised. The latter being Regina.

When the lady walked away, Regina said, "Plain? Really?"

I looked at her face which had a deadpan look. Should I tell her?

Yeah. So she would make fun of you.

"I wanted to try it... It looked good." I reasoned.

"Good? Good?! It has no flavour at all! Why would you want that?!" She said, her voice slightly raising an octave louder.

"Well... Yeah, I guess..?" I said, more of a question than a statement.

She shook her head, disgust obvious on her face. "I don't understand you." We were quiet for a moment before she spoke again, "Is there anyone?"

"Huh?" I blurted out. What were we talking about?

Ina rolled her eyes, "I meant, is there anyone you're seeing? Have a crush on a girl? Or a boy?"

Wait, was she asking about my nonexistent love life?

Why??

"Uh, no..." She gave me an unbelieving look.

Suddenly, someone's face flashed through my memory, and I could feel a small smile build up on my face.

"Yes, there is." Regina's voice snapped me out of my daydream. I saw her eyes narrowed, but she wasn't glaring at me.

More like... Squinting.

How could I even tell the difference??

"Wha-no. There's no one--"

"You sure about that? Or are you just afraid to have a replay of what happened with Blair?" I flinched at the memory. "Rayver, I don't mind you doing whatever the hell you want, but you shouldn't be afraid to try things just because of one person."

"B-but what if it does happen? What if I like someone again, and they just humiliate me or... Hurt me. I don't want to feel that again, Ina! If it means that I wouldn't like anyone else in my life, then so be it."

She was quiet so I slowly turned my head upwards and saw her with both brows raised, like she was surprised.

She shook her head before saying incredulously, "Did... Did you just call me 'Ina'??"

My eyes widened as I suddenly realized that I had slipped out the nickname that I used for her.

I quickly apologized, stammering in the process. "N-no... I mean, I-I don't, uhh... I--"

"Rayver." I cast my head downwards, embarrassed of myself and scared at her tone. "Rayver, look at me."

Following her, I glanced up at her, but kept my sight over at her shoulders, hoping that she wouldn't notice.

"In my eyes, Rayver." Well, there goes that wish.

Luck is never on your side. Just accept that.

I then let my silver eyes wander to her silver and red ones. When they did, I'm pretty sure mine grew big.

Why? Well, for starters, she wasn't glaring. She was not glaring!

Second, I might be imagining things, but it looked like her eyes were soft. Unlike the first time I met her, which were ice cold and hard.

Then again, I might be seeing things.

"It's okay, Rayver. I actually kind of like it." She said, still locking eyes with me.

A plate coming in front of us snapped us from our staring. I looked at mine, which was a plain, brown waffle.

It was just like me. Boring.

Then I looked at hers, and my jaw fell to the ground.

She had a chocolate moist cake, which was only one slice, so you could see the inside, which was oozing with what I guess is white chocolate.

Not only that, but on the top, there were chocolate Oreos, KitKats, Cadbury's, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and so much more.

And to top it all off, there was a small serving of chocolate ice cream with chocolate chips.

Now I understand why it's called 'chocolate supreme'.

I stared at her with a weird look. She saw me staring, so she said with a warning tone, "This is my guilty pleasure. Make sure this stays between us."

I hastily nodded in response.

I looked at hers, then mine. Then hers. Then mine.

I sighed and frowned at mine. I'm so boring.

That you are.

"Take this," Regina said, making me shake my head.

"No, no! You ordered it. It's yours." I protested.

"Rayver." And the glare is back. Well, it was nice until it lasted.

"But--" I cut myself off, seeing her deadly gaze.

Before I could make a move, Regina took my plate and switched it with hers. As I looked at kine, my mouth watered.

Wow.

Not waiting another moment, I dug in, forgetting the whole world. As the first bite made contact with my tastebuds, I moaned at the flavour.

So good.

I heard a chuckle, pulling me back from my chocolate-covered daze. I looked in front of me and saw Regina chuckling at me with a ghost of a smile on her face.

I smiled wide because of this.

But then, my smile faltered when I saw her take a bite of the ugly thing that I ordered.

"Are... Are you sure you're still going to eat that? I mean, we can just share..?" I suggested but she shook her head.

"No. It's okay. This shit is surprisingly pretty good." She said.

I don't believe her, but I wouldn't want her to be annoyed with me.

Suddenly, a thought came to my head. Even though I am hesitant to ask this, it's only now or never.

"Um... Regi-, I mean, Ina... I wanted to ask something..?" She nodded. Well, here goes nothing. "What happened to our mom?"

My question was like a light switch. When I asked her, her whole demeanour changed. She put her fork down, and her eyes returned to their usual hard look.

"Don't know. She could be dead for all I care." She coldly said.

I frowned, confused. Wouldn't she want to know where our mother was?

"Don't you wanna know where she is? Or even if she's alright?" I voiced my thoughts.

She stared me in the eye as if she was trying to get me to understand. "She's gone, Rayver. She left us." She spat out, "She took you far away from your family. If that's what you call a mother, fine. But not me."

I mulled over what she said.

Regina did have a point, but I'm pretty sure there's more to the story.

But maybe that's a question for another time.

A sigh was heard, so I took a glimpse at Regina and saw her squeezing the space between her brows with her thumb and pointer finger.

"I don't want to talk about this. Change the topic." She demanded.

So I did. I talked to her about the scholastic decathlon and how me and my friends are going to do it.

We talked about this and that, and for that time, I actually enjoyed it. The whole time we were talking, not one of the voices dated to say another word.

When we finished, I asked her one last time if she was mad that she had to eat that plain, boring piece of waffle.

She said to me with the edges of her mouth upwards, "Rayver, it's okay. I liked it. Drop that guilty look already."

I nodded and we got into the car and drove back to the mansion in a comfortable silence.
