JULIENNE PARKER; 2008.

The people of New Orleans gathered on the streets to watch the festival. The night was warm and the moon full and in all its glory. The sound of trumpets, french horns and drums soon filled the streets leaving a faint vibration through the ground.

People cheered as the dancers drew closer to them, dressed in multicoloured garments. They moved smoothly to the rhythm of the jazz style music. The females moved their waist in an alluring and beautifully organized rhythm. Men drooled, women cheered and envied the beauty of the dancers.

Julienne stood at the top of the small steps to an old house by the street. She was small and therefore had to climb up there to see the dancers and musicians. More people cheered and she smiled once her vision settled on her dear sister who was the leader of the dancers. She stood infront of all of them and people praised her because she danced so naturally.

Julienne was proud as she watched her sister get soaked in her well deserved glory. Their eyes met and her sister gave her the brightest smile she had ever received. Julienne returned it, hoping it was as bright as her sister's. She admired her sister as she moved. Her face was made up and she looked like an angel. Julienne smiled proudly once again because she was responsible for her sister's make up.

"Parker looks especially beautiful this year." She heard someone say amongst the crowd.

Indeed, indeed she did.

The dancers slowly moved down the street, followed closely by the musicians. Julienne jumped down the steps and pushed through the crowd. She found another house just a few block away where she knew she could get a good view and ran as fast she could towards it.

A distinct scream was heard from the direction the dancers had come. Julienne turned around but was obstructed by a wall of bodies. At that moment, she cursed at herself for being so short.

Another scream, closer.

Julienne turned back around and made her way to the house. She'd be able to see what's happening from there, she thought to herself as she ran towards the house.

Another scream. Much closer.

Julienne ran as fast as her short legs could carry her and soon, she was at the house. She climbed the steps until she got to the one at the top then she looked around to see the cause of the commotion.

Another scream. Close enough for you to see who was screaming and she saw. She saw her sister scream and drop to the floor, a hole in her forehead.

Another scream. From her.
