After a relatively uneventful rest of the night, tomorrow arrived. By the time that morning came, Feng Yao's brain had already started hurting. She'd been on high alert all night, but so far, nothing had happened yet.

She scowled and wanted to repeatedly smack her head against the table in front of her.

Who cares what the Emperor is planning? All I want to do is eat candy and twirl around in circles like all the other young maidens.

But in the end, she decided not to break the table with her massively impressive ego....ahem...head. After all, there was a person sitting in front of her. And who that person was?

Of course it could only be Hui Yi.

From where Feng Yao was sitting on her bench, she rhythmically swung her short legs back and forth. A single lollipop was in her mouth. With a bored gaze, Feng Yao glanced at the beautiful woman in front of her.

Hui Yi was currently sitting upright with her hands clasped neatly into her lap. Her eyes were lightly shut as if she was asleep, but Feng Yao knew she was completely awake.

Ever since Hui Yi had arrived, she hadn't said more than a two-word response to anything Feng Yao asked her. Other than their first initial greeting, Hui Yi hadn't even looked her in the eyes.

Feng Yao sighed. Stretching her hand outwards to rest on the table in front of her, she again attempted to start a conversation with her.

"Lovely day today, isn't it?"

"...En."

"...."

She tried again.

"So...Is there anything you'd like to do?"

"Doesn't matter."

"..."

Feng Yao finally couldn't stand it anymore. Abruptly, she stood up making her chair fall backwards. Hui Yi slowly opened her eyes and stared coldly at Feng Yao.

"Look here. I'm sorry about you not being able to hook up with His Majesty during the banquet. I'm sorry you didn't get to meet privately with him. I apologize for getting in the way of your love life, okay!?"

Was it Feng Yao's imagination, or did Hui Yi's face suddenly stiffen?

But Feng Yao continued on. A sympathetic look appeared in her eyes as she gently patted Hui Yi's shoulder.

In a soft voice she said, "It's okay, I understand. It's only natural that you love His Majesty to this extent. If you'd like, I can even put in a few good words for you. Perhaps you might even get the chance to become his concubine."

Hui Yi's pretty face paled at her words.

Hmmm? How strange~

Feng Yao suddenly felt like she wasn't so bored anymore. In one smooth motion, she righted up her fallen chair before sitting down elegantly with her legs crossed.

Although she certainly didn't have the image of a young noble woman like Hui Yi did, the servants watching still couldn't help but raise their eyebrows in surprise at her sudden agility and grace.

Resting her hand into her propped-up hand, Feng Yao tilted her head curiously as another thought popped into her head.

"So what do young misses do anyway?"

Hui Yi was so still that Feng Yao almost thought that she didn't hear her question. Just as she was about to repeat it, Hui Yi's low voice answered.

"Usually they sew, drink tea, or visit the marketplace for entertainment."

Hmm? Feng Yao noticed that Hui Yi didn't seem to include herself into that description.

"So what about you then, Hui Yi? What do you do for fun?"

Hui Yi looked up and met Feng Yao's eyes.

Oh? Her eyes seem to be quite icy. I wonder if she would mind if I kept my ice desserts near her...

Feng Yao's eyes brightened as she mentally imagined how she could persuade Hui Yi to agree to being her own portable ice cube.

"Fu fu fu..."

She ignored the chilly aura emitting from Hui Yi and let out a strange laugh. Quickly before Hui Yi could escape from her, she stood up and grabbed her hands. Oddly, they seemed to be much larger than her own.

"Come with me. I'll show you something really interesting." A wide grin split her face as she forcibly pulled Hui Yi behind her.

Huh. She's actually much taller than I realized. No wonder she can look so elegant and regal.

Feng Yao only came up to her shoulders. Quickly, she snuck a glance at her own pair of legs before muttering a curse about her own short stature.

Hui Yi could only watch with wary eyes at the strange Feng Yao who was ferociously flipping her intense stare back and forth between both of their legs.

As soon as they entered Feng Yao's guest room, Feng Yao let out a giddy laugh. She was almost bursting with excitement as she plopped an unwilling Hui Yi onto a chair next to the table. Feng Yao's internal sobs from minutes ago were already forgotten as she pulled out a small container and shoved it in front of Hui Yi.

"Guess what's inside?"

"...." Hui Yi stared coldly.

"Haha! Good guess. But wrong! It's actually--" Feng Yao pulled the lid off just as the sound of a cricket chirping was heard. She stuck her hand in and when she pulled it out, there was a yellow cricket in her hand.

"Look! It's a rare yellow cricket I found lying on my stomach when I woke up the other day! Isn't it cute?"

But as Feng Yao turned to look back at Hui Yi, she noticed that Hui Yi's eyes had opened wide in shock and surprise. Feng Yao let out a giggle as she watched Hui Yi jump up and run all the way back towards the wall in fright.

After a moment, Hui Yi's eyes suddenly narrowed incredulously at Feng Yao.

"Do you not realize how poisonous these yellow crickets are!? Even a single bite can paralyze a full-grown man!"

"En. I know."

Feng Yao's blantant response left Hui Yi completely speechless. Slowly, Hui Yi returned to her seat as she muttered things underneath her breath. Her eyes never once left the deadly creature hopping happily on Feng Yao's hand.

"--crazy woman. Absolutely freaking insane--"

Feng Yao sweetly smiled. "What did you just say?"

Hui Yi's only response was a glare. Feng Yao laughed and finally decided to stop playing.

"All right, all right. I'll put my adoooorable little friend away. Come on little cricket, I'll make sure to set you free later and play with you~"

Hui Yi's face blanched at the very idea that such a deadly bug would later be crawling free in this world. Or maybe it was because this deadly bug had such a strange girl as its master.

By the time that Feng Yao returned from putting away her little friend, Hui Yi had already regained her calm and was sitting still as if waiting for her return. When she noticed Feng Yao, she abruptly stood up.

Ahhh!? Feng Yao flinched at her sudden movement. Is she planning on getting revenge for being pranked by me? Nooo, don't do it! I'm a weakling! Come back and save me, my little buddy!!!

But completely contrary to her mindless delusion, Hui Yi only grabbed her by the wrist and began dragging her out.

"...Let's go walking around the market area."

Feng Yao could practically read Hui Yi's unsaid thoughts.

Before you kill us both with your insane pranks.

"Sure! Sounds great! I've been so bored this entire week!

Hui Yi let out a weak smile before muttering to herself. "That's what I was afraid of..."

Being only a simple guest staying in the outer walls of the palace, Feng Yao didn't need anyone to accompany her. When she asked if Hui Yi needed guards, Hui Yi just calmly stated that she had already covered it. Feng Yao just shrugged as she followed her into the carriage waiting for them.

When they both arrived on the main street of the city, the sun was already high in the sky. People were constantly buzzing around with activity around the vendors and stalls.

"Ooo! Hui Yi, look!"

Hui Yi casually glanced back at Feng Yao expecting her to be looking at the glittering jewels on sale. But to her complete surprise, Feng Yao was actually running towards a steam-bun stall. Her eyes were literally glowing with glee.

When Feng Yao leisurely sauntered back towards Hui Yi, her cheeks were stuffed full with a bite of the bun.

"You wan sum?" Feng Yao had to intently focus in order to not choke while speaking. Upon finishing her sentence successfully, a proud look appeared on her face.

Hui Yi stared blankly at her before sighing.

"Come on. Let's go visit that tea house."

Feng Yao turned to look at the large building that Hui Yi was motioning towards. It was a pretty pale color with a large sign saying, "Jade Tea House."

Since Feng Yao's mouth was full, she could only nod carefully while making sure no crumb escaped from her mouth.

Upon seeing the elegant Hui Yi, the host of the Jade Tea House immediately smiled and ushered them both down a private hallway and into an elegant room. The walls inside were a soft color and matched the table in the middle. On one wall was a large half-circular window that gave them a good view of the entire back courtyard filled with cherry blossom trees and blooming flowers.

"Will it be the usual brew today, Miss Hui Yi?"

Hui Yi nodded once as she swept her gaze around the room. When she noticed Feng Yao still eagerly eating her steam bun, Hui Yi simply gave another sigh.

"I will return shortly with your tea. Please call if you need anything."

The host bowed and left leaving Feng Yao and Hui Yi alone in the room. In the silence, only the soft "om noms" coming from Feng Yao could be heard.

Hui Yi cleared her throat. "This is a popular tea shop that nobles and royals like to frequent. It's quite well known. Besides the Lotus Tea Shop across town, it's one of the largest monopolies of the tea industry in the Wei Country."

Feng Yao lowered her head towards her steam bun as she listened.

The tea house I must've went to last time is probably the other tea shop. Unlike over at the Lotus Tea Shop, this Jade Tea Shop has no scent of the Thousand-Year tea.

At that moment, there was a knock at the door before the host returned. In his hand held a tray with a teapot and two beautifully decorated tea cups. After pouring them both a steaming cup, he bowed once more before leaving.

The scent intertwining with the steam smelled delightful. It had a faint minty aroma accompanied by a fruity sweetness. Feng Yao was so intrigued that she couldn't resist putting the remaining half of her steam bun down on the table to pick up a cup.

She noticed Hui Yi just about to do the same before they both froze. An incredibly faint buzzing noise was the only warning before they both realized something was wrong.

Immediately, Feng Yao ducked down while Hui Yi yanked her away from her original spot. Hui Yi's strength was unexpectedly strong enough to make Feng Yao lose her balance and tumble towards her.

Barely a second later, a sharp arrow came piercing through the paper door and embedded itself deeply into the exact spot where Feng Yao's head would have been.

Immediately after, a second arrow came whooshing through the door straight at both Feng Yao and Hui Yi. Feng Yao didn't even have time to react before Hui Yi tightly grabbed her and rolled them away. Like before, the arrow hit precisely the spot where they just were.

"Li Yue!" Hui Yi loudly called out and a masked guard in black jumped in through the window before sprinting out the door to pursue the assassins.

As the attacks abruptly stopped, both Feng Yao and Hui Yi tumbled to a halt with Feng Yao landing on top of Hui Yi. Just as Feng Yao was about to get up, her mind suddenly froze.

Why do I not feel the softness of another woman's bosom underneath me?

Her hands hesitantly felt beneath her body only to feel a hard muscular chest.

No no no, Feng Yao. I'm sure there's a completely logical explanation for this. Maybe Hui Yi is really into martial arts and working out. Yes yes, that must be it.

She tried to get up again but as she slightly shifted her leg, she froze again.

Was it her imagination, or was there "something" in between Hui Yi's legs?

No no no noooo, la di da~ I don't feel anything. No secret to be uncovered here~

Hui Yi must be really scared of thieves to hide her money pouch here. Yes. That's what it is.

"Ha...ha...Hui Yi, we seem to be in an...awkward position here..."

Her leg unintentionally brushed up against that "something" again, and a low male grunt came from the person underneath her.

She could pretend no longer. Feng Yao whipped her head up only to see Hui Yi's icy glare piercing back at her. No longer did Hui Yi use a feminine voice to chillingly threaten her through gritted teeth.

"Are you done touching me?"
