It was that day.

The day I decided to be an idiot and go out there.

I thought I was ready, but I wasn't. The Villain Society Of Japan, or the VSJ, managed to defeat me when I tried to ambush them in the middle of the forest on their way back from terrorizing the city, thinking I could get revenge and feel somewhat better after, even if it was for a couple of seconds.

But there were too many and they were too powerful.

I managed to kill one of their members accidentally by using my Sunflare quirk, which I thought would barely affect him, but I was wrong. The rest of the villains saw I had lowered my guard and didn't think twice about it as they started attacking me, all in perfect sync with each other.

I swear I passed out, but it felt like I was dead.

"Y/N!"

A girl walked around the burnt field, seeing nothing but smoke and cinder all around, the trees around you were no more. The ashes of the VSJ members surrounded you as you were the only one lying on good grass that hadn't been burnt yet.

The last thing you ever heard was your name.

BACK AT UA HIGH

"I found him unconscious and completely healed. And..."

Kyoka Jiro was the one that took you back to your dorm room, seeing that there was no need for medical attention since your quirk could also heal you if the sun was out.

Kyoka: "Yeah, he's deaf."

"How's that possible?"

Although you couldn't really hear your two friends in front of you, you could somewhat understand them by reading their lips. Kyoka was apparently talking about...

you having a rap battle with a monkey?

Okay, you weren't that good with reading lips, but now you're going to have to learn how to if you want to continue living your life like you once did before the incident.

Kyoka: "We'll have to be there with him at all times until some teacher can be available. Until then, you should stay with him. I got... things to do."

Tsuyu Asui was another good friend of yours, mostly everyone in your class was, except Bakugo because everyone hates Bakugo. But out of all of them, you trusted Tsuyu the most.

Tsuyu: "Okay then."

Kyoka: "See you later."

Tsuyu: "See ya. Kero."

Before leaving your bedroom, Kyoka gave you a reassuring nod, knowing that you'll be able to overcome this obstacle one way or another. Now, you were alone with your best friend in your bedroom, feeling a bit awkward because of the way Tsuyu looked at you, making you regret your decision to go after the VSJ more and more.

Tsuyu: "I want to know what you were doing out there, kero."

Y/N: "I can't hear you, Tsu."

Tsuyu grabbed a pencil and a notebook to write down all the questions she had, knowing you had nowhere else to go so you kinda had to answer them. She showed you the first question, pointing at it with the pencil.

You weren't too sure about answering, given that you fried one of the most dangerous group of villains and turned them into barbecue.

Y/N: "I went for a walk, my quirk went crazy probably because it was really hot out and I went boom."

Despite your loss of hearing, your voice was surprisingly not too loud or too quiet, it was just right, as if you could still hear your own voice and control how loud it needed to be. Tsuyu looked down at the notebook and wrote something else.

You're lying. Kero.

Y/N: "Maybe I am—wait why did you write kero?"

Tsuyu grabbed the notebook and showed you something else she wrote down.

Doesn't matter. For now, I'll take care of you.

Y/N: "Thanks. I didn't know where I would be if—"

Tsuyu, out of nowhere, came in for a hug. You knew she wasn't as sentimental as other people you knew, so it was unexpected for her to hug you. She sat back down, tipping her finger on her mouth like she always does.

Tsuyu: "I thought you had died."

This time you knew what she was saying, so it wasn't hard to find a way to answer.

Y/N: "I can't die yet, I still have a lot to tell you. I just don't know if I can do it after this..."

Tsu: "Tell me what?"

Y/N: "Nothing important. I'll go out for a walk—"

Tsuyu glanced at you menacingly, somehow still keeping her same expression yet making it feel different. You laughed, taking off your jacket.

Tsu: "You went for enough walks today."

Y/N: "What was that?"

She shook her head, meaning that it wasn't anything important.

MONTHS LATER

With a world full of people with extraordinary abilities, it wasn't a surprise that someone would eventually come up with a solution to your problem, an earpiece that allowed you to hear through one ear, but you still heard absolutely nothing through the other.

This at least allowed you to hear Tsuyu speak and know whenever she was talking about you.

AT YOUR DORM ROOM

The door of your dorm room opens, but you didn't notice it as Tsuyu walks in, looking at you and standing there waiting for you to notice her. You seemed distracted, not really thinking about anything at all, but just being in your own little world.

When you finally noticed your friend, you apologized for not noticing her come in, but that happened almost all the time, even with the earpiece, so she understood.

Tsuyu: "It's alright, kero. I came to check up on you, do you need something?"

Y/N: "I'm... fine. I'm fine. The earpiece seems to be working just fine. I just... I don't know. My other ear is bleh and I can't depend on technology my entire life."

Tsuyu: "What are you gonna do?"

You sigh, taking off the earpiece that was in your right ear, then placing it on your bed. You looked at Tsuyu and smiled.

Y/N: "I'll learn."

You walked up to her and kissed her, not exactly worried about what would happen after.

Y/N: "What do you say?"

Tsuyu smiled.
