The horn of the boat could be heard from far away. Even in your bedroom, where you mostly slept and did absolutely nothing.

Your bedroom was the only place you were in. You usually never left, except when Hau pestered you about training together. You couldn't deny your best friend's request but even then, you still felt weird.

Something was missing in your life. Someone.

And when you heard the boat's horn, you stood up and decided to go to the docks just to check it out, giving you an excuse to get some fresh air. Every step you took felt hard to take, it's been a while since you've gone out on your own accord without anyone having to push you out of your house.

When you got there, people started getting off the huge cruise ship, which surprised you since it was bigger than anything you had seen before. The ship had the name S.S. ANNE on it.

But where did it come from?

People started getting off, and since there were so many, you started getting bored since it was taking forever for everyone to get off, so you started walking away, checking your watch and seeing it was still morning so you decided to maybe walk some more around the city before locking yourself in your bedroom.

But as you started walking away, you felt something hang onto your head. The wind had blown it to your direction and your body caught it, it was a blue ribbon.

You looked back to see where it even came from, trying to walk around the people and find who it belonged to. When you saw a girl who was looking around, as if she was lost or looking for something, you froze. You couldn't see her face but just by her ponytail and style of clothes alone, you could tell who it was but you didn't believe it.

Were you dreaming? You doubt it.

You managed to snap out of it and walk towards the girl, your heart beating like crazy with every step you took. Once you were close enough, you took a deep breath and spoke:

Y/N: "I believe this is yours."

The girl turned around and as soon as you saw who she was, you froze again, and so did she. If it weren't by the loud horn of the boat, you two would've been stuck there like statues, just staring at each other.

You didn't really know what to say, so you went in and hugged her, Lillie. She was just as surprised as you were, even though her last ten days on Kanto had been spent on how she would approach you after not seeing you for three long years. It took her a while, but she finally hugged you back, burrowing her face on your shoulder and getting ready to cry.

Y/N: "It really is you..."

Both of you refused to let go of the other, it was almost unbelievable how much you wanted that moment to last forever, but it obviously wasn't going to. You slowly let go of Lillie, looking at her teary eyes and the way she wiped her tears off her cheeks.

Lillie: "Y/N..."

Y/N: "Yeah, that's my name."

You caused Lillie to giggle a bit, reminding her how much you liked to mess around whenever you were around her. Your goal was always to make her happy, but back then you didn't exactly know why, but this moment helped you see why.

Her smile. Her pure, innocent smile.

Lillie: "Already making jokes I see... I don't know what to say..."

Y/N: "It's okay, the important thing is that you're here now. It's been three years, Lillie."

Lillie: "I know..."

She went and hugged you again, making sure that what was happening was real. She took a deep breath and finally realized that it was real.

Y/N: "Where do we go now?"

Lillie: "Somewhere that's not here. I wanna talk with you..."

Y/N: "Okay then, I know a place."

FLASHBACK

Lillie: "Rains in Alola, huh..."

As the rain heavily poured down on Exeggutor Island, you and Lillie found some shelter in a small cave, waiting for the rain to subside.

Lillie: "My skirt got a bit wet..."

Y/N: "Y-Yeah, I can tell..."

Your wandering eyes were admiring Lillie's new clothes and now wet hair, seeing how beautiful she really is, but you never paid any attention to that until now.

Awkward silence, Lillie blushed. You tried to look away, but then Lillie held your hand. The rain was the perfect opportunity to tell you how she felt.

Lillie: "...you know what, Y/N?"

Y/N: "Yeah?"

Lillie: "Whenever I feel like there is nothing I can do, you seem to show up and... you do something. Every time, you've shown me that it's possible... to do something."

It was getting harder to speak, Lillie was getting worried about what you may think.

Lillie: "Even the first time we met... Nebby was being attacked and all I could do was look on in horror... and at Aether Paradise... all I could do was wait for you and the others to save me..."

Lillie took a deep breath, tightening her grip around your hand. She looked up at you, so you smiled when you saw how worried she was, trying to make her feel better. You had an idea as to where she was going with this.

Lillie: "Whenever I'm in any sort of trouble, you're always there."

She got quiet once more, shaking a bit but ready to finally say what she wanted to say.

Lillie: "I..."

Lillie stopped talking, the calm sound of the heavy rain had stopped with the rain altogether, leaving behind a very beautiful rainbow that even the Alolan Exeggutors admired. Lillie looked at it, then looked back at you, realizing she was still holding your hand.

Lillie: "Oh! Um! I think we should go get the flute now..."

Lillie let go of your hand, quickly making her way back to the boat. This surprised you, so close yet so far to hear her say it.

She never brought it up again.

BACK TO PRESENT

Lillie: "And your mom?"

You decided to go to your house since it was the closest place to go. And since your mom went out with Meowth, it was a good place to talk. You just hoped Hau wouldn't come to interrupt since you called him before arriving.

Y/N: "She's out buying some things. She'll be very happy to see you."

Lillie: "Right. So, how have you've been?"

Y/N: "Ah you know, being the champion keeps me busy. There's always a couple of new challengers every month. It's just very... repetitive. Not to brag but I win every time."

Lillie smiles.

Lillie: "You did work hard to get there, so it makes sense."

Y/N: "What about you? How did Kanto treat you?"

Lillie: "It was great! The pokemon looked so different there! Ninetales are so beautiful. Oh, there was also this girl who knew Red and Blue! Very kind but angry at them for some reason."

Y/N: "Green, right?"

Lillie nods, surprised you knew the girl with anger issues.

Y/N: "They told me about her. Apparently she wanted to come to Alola as well, but they never told her."

Lillie: "She said they were going to pay!"

You and Lillie laughed, interested to see what Red and Blue's fate would be in the future once they reunite with their friend.

Lillie: "So, do you um... remember that day."

Y/N: "What day?"

Lillie: "When we got the flute on Exeggutor Island..."

You instantly remembered. What she was going to say but never did.

Y/N: "Yeah yeah, that. I gotta say, it was hard to forget."

Lillie stands up, sitting next to you on the other couch, moving closer.

Lillie: "And...! I never finished what I wanted to say!"

Y/N: "Are you gonna tell me now?"

Lillie shook her head, feeling confident that what she would do would be enough to express how she felt.

Lillie: "I've changed. So I won't tell you, I'll show you."

Lillie moved and... kissed you. Not even she was fully ready to do so, but neither were you. It was so sudden, as she moved away once she was done, looking away completely embarrassed.

You were ready to give her your answer, getting closer and closer and...

Hau: "A wild Hau has appeared—!"

Hau opened the door without knocking, quickly glancing at you on top of Lillie about to kiss her, traumatized by the view.

Hau: "Sorry, wrong house."

He shuts the door.

Y/N: "I... don't know how I'll explain this to him now."

Lillie giggles, kissing you on the cheek.

Lillie: "Don't worry, he'll understand."
