Suvarna's POV.

I felt completely exhausted and drained as I went to bed. Ever since my chat with Shishir the day before I could feel him more on edge.

Even without him sharing the details with me it was easy to guess I am being targeted for some reasons.

Had it not been so, why would he or the police be taking so many precautions around me? Entire day today I had an uneasy feeling and this added to my agitated state of mind.

Tossing in bed I tried to sleep, which seemed to elude me. It makes no sense. Since I am feeling so tired should I not have fallen asleep the moment my head hit the pillow?

Curling up to a pillow I closed my eyes willing sleep to overtake my senses. I gave up after a few minutes when I was still not able to sleep. My body craved to rest but my overactive thoughts currently made it difficult.

A sudden flash of light at the window facing my bed made me sit up startled. This was not the first time I had seen it. Throughout the day, at least three times I had felt a flash outside but had not been sure and it had not been that evident in the day time.

Not wanting Shravan to think too much about it I had not mentioned this to him, especially since I was not sure about it myself.

However now at night the flash was unmistakable. For some unknown reasons I felt a sense of palpitation.

Closing my eyes I breathed in hard and released my breathe slowly in my attempt to calm myself but did not succeed.

When there was another flash, this time for almost five seconds, unlike the previous ones that were barely there for about a second I flung aside my comforter and stood up.

My first instinct was to run out of the room and go to Shishir but I forced myself from bolting, knowing this would just add to his worry about me.

Most likely my fears were baseless and these flashes meant nothing serious. Probably it was a new light being fixed somewhere or maybe an older light gone faulty.

But then why had there been flashes in the day time?

Stop thinking Suvi!

I should just pull the drape over the window and try to sleep. I reached out for the bedside lamp clicking it on.

The flooding of the soft light in the room calmed my senses a bit and I gingerly walked towards the window wanting to pull the curtain over it.

Should I open it slightly and peek outside?

A voice at the back of my head made me hesitate but then my curiosity got the better of me.

Slowly I unlatched the window and pushed it open slightly, just a few inches wide. With bated breath I tilted my head slightly and ran my gaze in the quite night outside.

As I had guessed nothing was untoward or worrying. Sighing softly I felt relief course it's way within me.

A sudden flare of light behind me followed by a loud cluttering sound startled me and I turned around quickly.

Horrified to see my room plunged in darkness I pushed at the wall behind me, groping for support as my legs threatened to give up on me.

I could vaguely make out a movement near my bed and covered my mouth in an attempt to stop myself from screaming.

Probably that was not needed as I don't think any sound would have left my mouth right now.

Was someone there in my room? I felt plagued by fear like never before and gulped down the bile that rose into my mouth.

A loud banging sound made my heart almost stop in fright.

"Suvi?"

Relief came crashing through me as I realised the banging sound was Shishir knocking at my door.

He is here!

"Suvi!" I heard the agitation in his voice.

Had I locked the door before going to bed? I don't lock it normally.

Supposing someone was indeed here in my room would he harm Shishir if he came barging in?

I gulped in a greedy puff of breath as I felt my chest clog in fear. Then I heard the doorknob turn and realised I had not locked the door.

Before more panicky thoughts could run through me a bright light illuminated the room as Shishir switched on a light.

When he saw me bundled up near the still half open window he rushed in and gathered me into his arms.

"What happened Suvi?" he asked me, worry dripping from his voice as well his expression. I ran a worried look around the room and saw it was empty.

Shaking my head slightly I tried to clear my thoughts.

"Suvi? Why did you open the window?" Shishir asked but I was still not able to talk.

"What is going on? Suvi?" A bleary eyed Paresh walked in.

Slowly I felt my breath even and allowed Shravan to help me up and guide me towards my bed. That is when I realised my bedside lamp had broken.

"Shit!" I heard Shishir mumble softly as he saw the broken pieces of glass bits lying around the damaged lamp near my bed.

"Probably the frosty wind from the open window cracked the heated bulb and caused it to burst." Shishir said softly as he carefully made me sit away from the broken glass pieces.

I realised that was probably what had happened.

The fallen pillow not far made me realise that it must have fallen down and made me think in my panicked state of mind that there was someone in my room.

"I am sorry." I said softly feeling slightly silly at my over imagination. "I just got scared for nothing." I watched Paresh close the window shut and draw the curtain over.

Luckily our grandfathers had not woken up and Raghunath uncle had still not returned home from trip he had left for, few days back.

"Come to my room Suvi. You will be able to relax there." Shishir said and for once I did not argue.

Shishir's POV.

Pinching the bridge of my nose I fought to gain control of my feelings right now. Just when I had convinced myself that the incident last night in Suvi's room had not been anything to worry about Officer Daniel who had been on guard last night informed me about seeing certain flashes of light outside her window prior to Suvi's opening the window.

Before I had answer to this strange occurrence, I had just got another shock.

A soft knock sounded on my door before Danny pushed it open and came into my office room. One look at me and it must not have been difficult for him to guess all was not well.

"What is wrong?" he asked as he sat himself down on a chair opposite me.

"I got a call from the hospital." I said grimly. I looked into his eyes before continuing "The emergency room staff, that attended to Suvi when she had just been taken in say that there had been no shoulder injury."

"And now she has one?" Danny asked before answering it himself. "Probably some careless handling while shifting."

I nodded, since Nurse Susan also seemed to think so. In fact she was the one who first noticed the difference in the reports.

Another knock on my door stopped us from taking this discussion further.

"Come in." I said and Officers Smith and Johnson came in.

I had been expecting them and after a brief nod of acknowledgement to me and Danny they got down to business right away.

"Mr. Mehrotra, I think it would be wise if we once take a look into Miss Sharma's room." Officer Johnson said.

I nodded and got up followed by Danny.

On our way home I texted Paresh asking him to take Suvi to his room on some excuse without her getting suspicious. I did not want to alarm her. Luckily no one else was at home right now with our grandfathers once again visiting some friends and my father was still not back.

Somehow my father's absence right at this point of time was not going down well with me, but I was trying not to think too much about that.

Twenty minutes later as the officers checked Suvi's room I watched quietly standing next to Danny and Charles.

"Mehrotra, I don't want to alarm you, but today once again we saw some strange people down in the reception area." Charles said quietly and I gave him a resigned look, not knowing how to react.

He had been, along with all of us keeping a lookout for any strangers around us.

"It's uncanny how they seem to know every movement of hers. Somehow each time she is stepping down- not alone" he added the last bit hastily. "There is someone unknown near the elevator."

Suddenly something clicked in my mind and I shared a startled look with Danny.

He whistled softly "The wound on her shoulder!"

"What wound?" Officer Smith asked and I gave him the details of what I knew.

With hardly any room for doubt, it was clear some device must have been planted on her.

An icy chill ran over me as Officer Smith voiced what I was dreading to hear. "This is far too serious."

I was nearly out of the room before he halted me briefly. "Be very careful about what you talk around her."

I almost ran to Suvi and tugged at her shoulder.

"Shishir what are you doing?" She asked in surprise.

"Show me that wound Sumo. The one on your shoulder." I said grimly, mindful of keeping my voice low.

Gesturing with my finger for her and Paresh to keep quite I took a look at the wound. I closed my eyes tightly as the stitches came into view.

Slowly Suvi turned around looking shocked, having probably guessed what I was checking.

I typed on my mobile. 'Talk normally.' And showed it to the both of them.

Paresh's eyebrows shot up as if asking what to talk about before he turned towards Suvi.

"ACCEPT IT!" he shouted at the top of his voice making Suvi Jump in surprise while I let out an irritated hiss.

"Um- accept it you dirty thief, you stole all my chocolates." He continued slightly lowering his voice.

"Ass." I muttered. I should have known he would come up with something like this by way of 'normal' conversation'.

After all what was crazy and silly for the world made perfect sense to him.

I saw Suvi face palm herself before removing her hands from her face to show a sheepish grin. She picked up a pillow and flung it at Paresh who just shrugged his shoulder with a grin.

At least he made her smile I thought feeling slightly good at this thought. I stepped out of room gesturing a thumbs up to them and came face to face with both the officers along with Danny and Charles.

I nodded. "From the outside it does seem they have planted something." I said trying hard not to erupt.

This must have been done in the hours when she had sent me away to open the parcels.

Why? Why did I move from her side? I berated myself feeling helpless and going crazy with worry.

"We will have to get it checked to be sure. Are you aware if she has spoken anything that may alarm whoever is trying to harm her?" Officer Johnson asked.

"Not really-" I started to say before realisation hit me. The conversation we had day before yesterday!

She had mentioned clearly about being aware of what Prachi Aunty had been working on.

Damn!

"She told me that she knows what her mother was working on and she has read some of her files." I said quitely trying my best not to shout from the agitation I was feeling within me.

"That explains it." Officer Smith said making me look at him in surprise.

He pulled up his hand to show what he was holding and I felt my mouth dry up.

"It had not been frost that had resulted in her lamp breaking." He said looking into my eyes.

"I think we need to appoint some more guards around her-" Rest of his words were lost on me as I vaguely heard Danny and Charles take over and discuss with the officers the details.

Pre cap Chapter 85.

Shishir's POV.

"What do you mean we cannot remove the device from her without harming her?" I shouted at the Officers in front of me.

This is the crap they come up with after doing all those tests?

"Calm down Mr. Mehrotra." Officer Smith said and I lost it completely.

Calm down? They are not able to help me secure my woman's safety and preach me about staying calm!

Look out for the details of the device in the next chapter.

Will update soon!
