Suvarna's POV.

I ran into my room and ducked under the bed. I had just made it out of sight when I heard the door knob turn and the door was pushed open.

Made it just in time.

I hope they did not see me run into my room.

"Are you sure you saw her run in here?" I heard one of them whisper- but loud enough for me to hear it.

"Yes, I am positive." The shorter one replied.

Oh no! I cannot allow them to get to me.

"Then where is she?" The taller of the two hissed in irritation.

"Let's check the bathroom."

I saw the two pairs of leg move in the direction of my bathroom.

"She is not in here. I am sure you made a mistake once again- as usual."

"No I did not! Just because I am younger to you-"

"Shhhh-! Stop yelling! Have you forgotten about the deadly duo sitting outside? We have to be quite and sneaky about it."

"Yes we have already failed in our earlier attempt, thanks to you. How could you forget to put your phone on silent?"

"Shut up! Let's get out of here before we are caught."

I sighed in relief as I heard this and watched their legs with bated breath as they walked towards the door.

"Oh crap! We cannot go out now. The two of them are sitting right outside."

"Damn! I should have never believed you and come here in the first place!

"Stop complaining and think what should we do now?"

"Let's hide in here and wait for her."

"Good idea!"

My heart sank at these words. How would I be able to save myself now?

Before my mind could think further two pairs of eyes came into focus as the he two of them chose the same hiding place as mine.

A shriek almost left me and I would have probably let it out had their triumphant yell not made me swallow it in.

I groaned in despair as slow wicked smile formed on both their faces.

How do I save myself now?

"What the hell is going on here?" The angry voice made my heart dance in joy.

Undoubtedly when these two had yelled in joy they had given themselves away.

Saved!

Without wasting much time I wriggled out from under the bed and stood up and walked to the other side of the bed.

The look on the face of the two still sprawled on the floor was priceless.

"Have I not warned you two to stay away from her?" once again Dadaji boomed and I could not resist the gleeful expression from gracing my face.

The truth was in their concern about my safety the Mehrotra brothers had been going over board and driving me crazy with their over protectiveness.

I had hardly stepped out barring my visit to the doctor and another to take a walk in the apartment's garden downstairs, but those two experiences had been enough for me to give up on any idea of going out.

I had lost it when these Shishir had insisted on checking the bathroom before I entered it to use it- each time!

Luckily our grandfathers had seen my situation had had forbidden the two Mehrotra brothers to come near me for rest to today.

But of course they did not listen. So while they were trying to sneak close to me while trying to dodge our grandfathers I was trying my best to stay away.

"Dadaji I cannot take any risk where Suvi is concerned. " Shishir protested standing up and though my heart melted yet again at his concern I steeled myself and did not let that 'aww' feeling take over me.

"Shishir you are seriously getting paranoid about the whole thing! Who would come in here just to get me? Besides I am still sure the cops are making a mistake and no one is really after me." I tried to reason it with him once again.

It just does not make any sense to me. Why would anyone be after me?

"Have you forgotten that a gun had been held at your forehead? Which of course you had not mentioned to me." Shishir said his face going grim and the way his jaw tightened I knew he was not just worried but right at this moment angry too.

I rolled my eyes at him "It did not even occur to me to mention it." I knew I had said the wrong thing when I saw his eyes flash at me.

Desperately I looked towards our grandfathers for help only to find they had already left the room. Even Paresh was gone.

When did they go out?

"Did not even occur to mention? It is normal for you to have a gun pointed at you?" Shishir's voice, dangerously low, sounded close by.

Too close.

I gulped. Now that only the two of us were in my room I did not want to anger or worry him more than he already was.

I bit my lip trying to think about how to take his mind off from this issue.

And of course there is a topic that could easily distract him from any and every topic.

Me!

I tried hard not to look smug or smile as this thought occurred to me. I looked down towards my left hand.

"I love this ring." I said softly turning the ring lightly with the fingers of my right hand. This time I could not help the soft smile from pulling my lips.

I looked up to find Shishir watching me with narrowed eyes, but the soft stretch of his lips gave away that he was now trying hard not to laugh.

"You play dirty Miss. Sharma." He said moving still closer and wrapped his arms around my waist.

I grinned at him before laying my head on his chest. I lifted my hand to gaze at the ring.

"We are engaged Shishir !" I mumbled feeling content. Even after two days had passed since his most wonderful proposal I still could not get over it.

In response he tightened his hold around me and rested his chin on my head.

"You are precious to me, my love. I cannot- will not let any harm come over you." Shishir whispered.

I could feel his pain and anger even without looking at his face

I pulled away slightly so that I could see his face. "Shishir  stop it. Stop blaming yourself for what happened at the Mall. It was not your fault."

"I should have picked up you call!" he said angrily. I knew his anger was directed towards himself and my heart ached for him.

"Shishir -"

"Suvi I would have reached you faster had I not been so silly that day. You would not have reached the hospital had I-"

I placed a finger on his lip to stop him from going on. "It was not your fault." I repeated quietly.

He looked away and I knew he was still not convinced.

"Have the officers told you anything more about the case? Any new development?" I asked.

"They are working on it." Shishir said and I instinctively knew he was hiding something from me. I knew asking him about would be futile.

Sudden itching pain on my left shoulder made me wince and reach out to touch it lightly.

"What happened?" Shishir, ever alert about me, immediately asked.

I smiled "Relax. It's only the wound on my shoulder drying up."

"You have a wound on your shoulder?" Shishir frowned.

"Yeah, though a very small one."

Shishir's POV.

My phone rang just then and I saw it was Officer Smith calling. I gestured silently to Suvi and stepped out of her room.

I did not want her to know yet that the police were suspecting that the people after her were the same people who had been responsible for Prachi  auntie's plane hijacking, who were now trying to get to her.

Prachi aunty had found out a lot about their wrong doings and had been working against them. That had been the reason, without much doubt, why they had got her out of their way.

Though why would they try to hurt Suvi, that too after so many years was something that baffled the police as well as me.

Suvi had been a child when her parents had met with the mishap. So she could not have known or even understood what her mother had been working on.

***

As I disconnected the call after having a long chat with Officer Smith my mind was racing. He had a detailed report that each time- which was twice, Suvi had stepped out some men had been on her track, even before she had reached her destination.

Last two days I have not let Suvi venture out of the apartment block without me. But I have not been able to shake of the uneasy feeling that someone is keeping an eye on our movement.

How are they getting informed? I have not seen anyone approach or try anything funny but something is certainly up and the officer in charge of her security, also seems to think so.

How are they managing to intercept Suvi's location each time?

This was really serious and now it seemed certain they would go to any length to get to her.

But why?

I covered my face with my hands as I felt overwhelmed with fear and despair. Some people were out here trying to harm my Suvi and I was still not sure how to protect her.

Soft fingers on my hair made me remove my hand from my face, though I knew by the touch it was Suvi.

"Stop worrying so much." She said as she gently stroked my hair. Normally it soothed me, but right now there was nothing that could calm me.

But I did not want her to worry so I nodded and tried to smile. She smiled back before looking directly into my eyes.

"It is about Mummy working on that last case- about flesh trade and human trafficking isn't it?"

My head whipped completely in her direction. How does she know about this?

"What are you talking about?" I asked trying to play around with words.

"Shishir don't try that stunt with me." she said and I knew she was not guessing but actually knew about that case.

"How do you know about this Suvi? You were still a child then." I said knowing it was no use trting to evade the topic any more.

"When I started studying law I thought it would be a good idea to refer to some of Mummy's old case histories. You know how brilliant a lawyer she had been." She said softly and I held her palm trying to make it easy for her to talk about this.

Even after so many years it was not easy for Suvi to come to terms with the loss of her parents. Her next words though almost punched the breath out of my lungs.

"You have to stop blaming Raghunath uncle for making Mummy take that flight. "

She knows!

"Shishir I may have been too small at that time to know the case details and found out about that only recently, but I was around when Uncle spoke to Mummy about that trip." She said gently.

She bent her head and I knew she did not want me to see her tears. My heart clenched painfully in my chest.

When she pulled her hand out of mine I felt my heart tear apart. .

She moved away from me and had her back towards me as she moved towards the window of my study..

"I know had uncle not insisted then probably my parents would not have been on that flight, I have known it all along." Her effort to choke on her tears was like a knife being plunged in my chest.

I got up and moved towards her but before I could reach her she turned around, having already fought back the tears.

"Shishir no matter what, I don't think Uncle could have been aware of what fate awaited that flight. You have to believe that too!"

I pulled her close to me. This is how my Suvi is. An angel at heart. But I was not going to let go of what my father had done so easily.

I hope the chapter has been a good read. Did you guess the beginning, that it was the two brats? Haha!

And Suvi knows!

I know this was such a late update. 18 days! I think I created a new record for myself! LOL!

I hope I never have to take so long again and will update next chapter very soon.
