Ethan's POV

"It's just so stressful!" Angie exhaustedly shouted as she sat down at the lunch table with Jake, Me, and a couple of our classmates I've befriended since the beginning of the school year.

"Student Council duty?" Jake questioned, knowing the answer was correct.

Homecoming is coming up and it was one of the many jobs of the Student Council to organize the dance, get the word out about the dance, and other things. Angie, although not a big fan of the job, still did it because it offered Student Learning Hours and looked good on college applications.

"You don't realize how low your patience is when you force a smile at someone when really you just want to punch them in the face." She huffed as she stole one of Jakes fries.

"Sure, go ahead, you can eat my fries." He said sarcastically.

"Thanks, I'm really hungry and the lines really long." She sighed, not hearing the sarcasm in his voice. I on the other hand, was enjoying a unappetizing cheeseburger because the nachos looked really soggy.

"Well, Homecoming is this weekend, so once it's over, your work here is done!" I tried to offer some positivity considering how visually stressed she looked.

"Yeah, I guess. You guys are going to homecoming right ?"

Jake rolled his eyes, "Do I have a choice?" It was clear that he in fact, Did have a choice but his very clear and obvious feelings for Angie stopped him from saying no to her. It's kind of funny how oblivious she was towards it all.

"Of course not! Part of the "Student Learning Hours"" she mimicked in a teacher-sounding way, "Is to show up to the event itself. If you guys don't go, I will probably gouge my eyes out!"

"I don't know Angie, I've been feeling a bit sick lately." I lied. I haven't really been in the mood to do "fun activities" and she could see right through my lies of me not feeling good, and knew  it was just an excuse.

"No, Ethan! I need you both there." she looked me in my eyes and could see how not interested I was, "Please. .  . go for me." She sincerely asked, with those puppy dog eyes she knew I couldn't say "no" to.

"Angie—"

"Please! Please! Please! Please!" She whined, loud enough for the whole table to hear.

"Okay!" I shouted a bit too loud for her to hear, "I'll go. . . but only for you!"

"Yay! My two best friends are coming to support my craft! And I promise, the decorations this year will be "A1" cause of Muahhh!"

"Way to gass your own head up" Jake granted himself a punch in the arm after making that statement and it was all good laughs after that.

"Hey, Broken Heart Hottie asked about you today." Angie said with a mouth full of fries. At first I didn't know who she was talking too, until she looked up at me, with her cheeks filled with dirty school fries.

"Who's that?"

"You know. . . Hottie who's heart got broken over the summer. . ."

she doesn't mean ?

"Three musketeer with Dylan and Cameron. . ." she continued on.

I think she is talking about him.

"Has really nice—"

"Yeah! I think I got it, Angie! you're talking about Tobias" Although I was playing it cool on the outside, on the inside, my whole body was warming up at the description of Tobias. I've avoided all interaction with him after that incident with Cameron outside the school.

"Yeah, he asked for you. He seemed worried. Like he actually gave a shit about something for a minute" she said as she popped another fry in her mouth.

"Really?" I don't know why that warmed my heart a bit.

"Yeah, but he was very distinctive on me not telling you. . . so of course I had to tell you."

Why didn't he want me to know he was asking about me ?

He probably didn't want me to know after two months of avoiding each other, for a split second he thought about me. Or maybe he just wanted to see if I got over him and moved on after all this time.

The answer to that is no. I've tried so hard to keep my mind off him. I've tried to look at other minimally cute boys at our school, but it's just not the same. Tobias did something to me. Something I blindly wanted so bad without seeing, he wasn't ready for it.

"That's weird. I don't really talk to him." I lied, again. Only this time she was too busy eating fries to notice. For some reason, she's made it a habit to point out my white little lies. I don't know how she knows but she does so I try my best to hid it very well.

But for the rest of the day, that's all that was on my mind. Tobias asking for me. Why? He seemed really good without me, as sad as that sounds. Of course in the beginning he wasn't but, he was quick to move on with his life. At least that's what it seemed.

But he was asking for me?

At home, Emily surprisingly was home earlier than me. Turns out, she closed early so hear we were, in the kitchen, talking our lives away.

"Yeah, She's been stressing about Homecoming, Student Council bizz, and stuff."

"Awe, homecoming. I remember waiting every year for homecoming ." She said, while looking into space. I'm guessing, she was having a reminiscing moment.

"Ew, you actually were excited about homecoming?"

"I went every year. Same group of friends. . . expect for that one year, Samantha didn't go cause we found out she slept with Tisha's —"

"Okay! Yeah, I got it !" I shouted before she ranted away on her old high school drama.

"Oh shut up! You're going right?"

"I promised Angie I would go and "support her" and all."

"Awe, I'm so excited for you. . . maybe you'll meet a cute new boy to fall for." She teased. I grabbed the first thing I could find; a banana, and threw it at her, "Ow!"

"Stop making fun of me! You know I'm a hopeless romantic."

"Oh, that you are." she teased before grabbing her stuff and leaving the kitchen.

Ugh, I really am.
