The shadows waltzed across the walls, dancing to the beat of the various candle lights sprawled out over the dim Victorian fashioned house. Outside the sky weeped almost furiously and the wind sang a mournful tune, perhaps for the death of the leaves as they departed for there yearly adventure to the ground.

"Can I sleep your room tonight?" Gola had whispered, scratching the back of her head with her free hand, the other hand holding her blanket and pillow. She cringed while waiting for her older sister to look up from her phone and give her an answer, she hadn't intended for her voice to sound so soft when she asked, she hadn't intended for it to sound like a little girls plead.

"Aww, is sis scared of the boogie man." Yona teased, squinting her eyes against the darkness as if this might help her see the fearful expression on gola's face and not just her silhouette.

"No I'm not!" Gola shouted defensively, throwing her blankets and pillows to cross her arms. Her voice had reached new levels of high pitch yona hadn't known to exist.

"Hmm." Yona mused, a smirk decorating her stunningly symmetric face. "Then you won't have a problem sleeping in your own room."

Gola briefly looked as if she might faint but then that look was replaced by one of determination. A translucent facade that didn't even fool her.

"Fine I will." She blurted, picking up her belongings, slamming Yona's door shut and marching back down the dark hall to her room.

Any ounce of short lived bravery or determination had scurried at the mere sight of gola's bedroom just like she wanted to. The candle lights in her room danced just like the candles in all the other rooms but more so in a feverish rage, making shadows on the wall quiver in a sinister manner. The exasperating flicker of lights and shadows however were nothing compared to the biting cold and eerie silence that would drive her to insanity long before the power could be turned back on or the sun could return home.

Biting her lip, she spared one glance down the hall toward yona's room to find that the candles at the farthest end of the hall had gone out. Gola furrowed her eyebrows as she tried to her best extent to observe the candles that had blown out.

There were no vents in the hall, which mattered little considering that the power was out anyways. the candles were fresh, so they couldn't have used all of the wick in such a short amount of time. Unless they were cheap.

Well we did get them from an old lady who seemed all too happy to get off of her hands.

Gola didn't have time to ponder over the candles price or quality because the next after the previous extinguished candles blew out in sync.

She blinked.

The next set of vanilla scented flames ceased.

Gola gasped, scurrying into her room. Realizing all to late that it had been 'him'. He was coming. He was here.

Gola wasted no time retrieving an extra blanket, a flashlight and her bible. She jumped into bed pulling both covers over her head, pulling her bible next to her chest and turning on her flashlight as she pretended to be asleep.

Do demons leave you alone if they were to believe you're asleep?

The only audible sound she could make out was the sound of her rapid unsteady breaths and the footfalls of his boots on the hardwood floor as he approached her bedroom.

Dreams are a safe place to run aren't they?

The footsteps stopped in front of gola's door. She clinched her eyes shut and and began praying.

He can't hurt me!

He can't hurt me!

He can't hurt me?!

The door hauntingly creaked open as the flames of candles raged, tripling in size and the shadows upon the walls cowered in his presence.

Gola made a tiny hole in her mini blanket fort as to see his movements, as she did so she couldn't help but wonder if the boogie man was afraid of him too.

His tall silhouette lingered in the doorway for a moment to long. Observing her like predator to prey.

When all the flames had ceased suddenly, Gola released a shriek that she had been desperately holding back.
