"Happy birthday to you..." Everyone chanted.

Lucas took a deep breath before he blew out the candles as the pack cheered, Dolores stood by my side as she clapped at Lucas, following suit I clapped my own hands, smiling at Lucas who looked overjoyed at his pack. He looked them all over before he turned and made eye contact with me and my hands stopped their clapping. He smiled at me and gestured me over, Dolores took notice and shoved me forward with her shoulder. I stumbled forward a bit, throwing her an embarrassed glance, before walking up to Lucas and taking his outstretched hand.

He picked up a knife that rested on the same table as his cake, and with his free hand, handing it towards me. I took it from him and he encased his own hand over mine. We brought the knife over to the cake and sank it in, the pack applauding as we did so. We cut out the slice and laid it on a plate.

I picked up a fork and grabbed a piece of the cake. I lifted it up to his lips and he opened his mouth slowly, letting me place the sweetness in his mouth. I pulled the fork back and kept my stare at him as he did me. I felt a warm feeling rush through my body, I felt happy, not at all discomforted by his stare or his touch.

I looked into the pools of green and whispered low enough for him to just barely hear, "Happy birthday, Luke."

Before I could comprehend, he brought his finger to the tip of my nose wiping some white frosting onto it. The pack cooed and my mouth opened wide at the cool feeling of the frosting, he brought the same finger to my chin and closed my mouth.

"A very happy birthday."

I chuckled at his words as he led me away from the cake, waiters, and waitresses already beginning to hand out individual pieces to the guests. His hand positioned nicely on my back. Respectfully not any lower than I would've preferred.

We walked over to Dolores who had her hands clasped together and her face was ecstatic.

"Joyeux Anniversaire, Alpha." She smiled, her eyes twinkling with light. Lucas let go of his hold on me and grabbed both of Dolores' hands.

"Thank you, Miss. Chaudoir." He said while shaking her hands, she looked over at me and laughed in shock.

Lucas let go of her hands and went back to on me, this time I felt him pull me slightly closer and I complied. The action didn't go undetected by Dolores, whose expression turned to one of soft sympathy.

"You both remind me so much of Alpha Edmond and Luna Esmee." She sighed, looking at us with her wise eyes. Lucas dropped his gaze over at me, pure content shining through his every movement.

He left my gaze to look at Dolores, "That's very kind of you to say, thank you." Lucas said sincerely.

Dolores waved her hand off, "If you really want to thank me, give the pack an heir!"

I choked.

Lucas started patting and rubbing my back, "Dawn are you alright?" He asked, with panic, but slight amusement evident in his voice. I simply nodded after regaining control of my breathing. I saw him look me over to confirm I was before looking back to Dolores, who had a knowing smirk plastered on her smug face. "Sorry Miss. Chaudoir, but I don't think there will be any pups for a while." He let out a husky chuckle.

I snapped my head at him, mind linking him almost immediately. "Woah, Woah. Slow your roll buddy. For a while?"

He squeezed my hip before responding. "Don't think too much into it darling, I just had to give her an answer."

"Do you mean it? The answer."

"Well come on Dawn, I'm a wolf, not an oracle." He joked.

"-I've taken much of your time already, have a wonderful birthday, Alpha." Dolores interrupted before Lucas had the chance to answer me.

He nodded, as Dolores walked away throwing me a discreet wink, and I shook my head at her actions. She looked like an old mature woman but had the mental age of a ten-year-old.

Lucas and I walked all around the hall, meeting, greeting people from all over the pack. Many of them, came to wish Lucas a wonderful birthday but ended up trying to incite a conversation with me instead.

One of them had even attempted to throw his hands around me and grip me in a tight hug, Lucas was faster, sensing my panic when I saw his fast form approaching. He stuck his hand out, the man's chest met with his palm. The man glanced down at it and shook it. Confusing an already bewildered Lucas.

We left the man after a curt goodbye and continued walking when we were approached by the Rosses'. Mr. Ross pulled Lucas into a bear hug, causing him to let go of me and hug the big man back. He turned to me after he was done patting Lucas' back the way guys do, and stuck his hand out to shake mine. "Bonsoir!" He said with his cheeks turning big and bright. "You do remember me, yes?" The question was directed toward me.

"Oui, Bonsoir." I smiled in response, and his eyes widened before he let out a hearty laugh.

He pointed his finger towards Lucas, "I see you taught her French!" And Lucas shook his head.

"No, that's all her."

Mr. Ross' wife came in view, hooking her arm up with her husbands as she took in our presence. My eyes narrowed as I remembered the unkind words she had shared with me the say we had first met.

"Happy Birthday, Alpha." She beamed, then turned to me. Her genuine smile dropped as he adorned a fake one. "Good evening, Luna."

I didn't respond, just sending her an icy glare, one that made her visibly squeamish.

"Thank you for your wishes," Lucas said, and all she did was a nod. Still trying to not look me in the eye.

I bit my tongue, I still had a few choice words that I wanted to direct her way but I knew better than to do it in front of others. "Lucas... I would love to talk to Mrs. Ross alone. Is that okay?"

He furrowed his brows, "Yeah, okay." And he pressed a chaste kiss on my temple before whispering in my ear. "Appearances... remember."

I mentally rolled my eyes, that wasn't for appearance sake.

Once Lucas left with Mr. Ross and towards the open bar on the other side of the hall, I returned to glaring at the vile woman in front of me.

"That dress looks incredible on you, Luna." She said, finally acknowledging my heated stare.

I nodded, I turned slightly allowing her to see the bare skin of my back on full display. "Even with the 'marred skin'?" I asked innocently, throwing her words back at her.

Her nervous reserve broke and she laughed darkly. "You know what?" I raised my brows." Actually, I hope you have a nice night, I know it'll be one you'll never forget."

"Excus-"

But before I could finish she took a chug of her drink, and left me standing alone. I gawked at her, before taking in her words. Did she mean them as a threat? I felt a tap on my shoulder and I jumped up and took a huge step backward, away from who was behind me.

"Hey, what's wrong? And who was that hag?" Mandy asked, taking a step closer to me trembling form. "Dawn?" She added after I didn't reply. She rested her hand on my shoulder.

I snapped out it, "Lucas... where's Lucas?" I asked after doing a quick inspection of the bar and not finding him there anymore.

She still looked heavily concerned, but pointed towards the front of the room, he was standing with other people. Casually laughing along with whatever joke was being passed around.

"Dawn..." Mandy started but I felt this growing urge to get to Lucas. A knot was forming in my stomach and it was only a matter of time till it got so tight it got constrictive.

I walked towards him like a woman on a mission, being so preoccupied with his growing form as I inched closer towards him that I didn't see the waiter walking in the same direction as me.

He crashed into me, resulting in the plates he was carrying on his hands to shatter on the floor in front of him. I looked away from Lucas and towards the man who was picking up the shards from the floor. I quickly got down in guilt and helped him place the remnants of it onto the tray.

"Oh, Luna.." I felt my eyes go wide at recognizing his voice. "There's really no need." I snapped my head up at him, his head moved slowly up and I came face to face with that ice blue-eyed man. I gasped and fell back on my butt.

"How- how did you get out?" I whispered, the beginning feelings of panic started to settle in the knot that was already in my stomach.

I felt strong arms grip my shoulder as little zaps of electricity greeted me, I was pulled up and I was turned to face a concerned Lucas. "Dawn?"

"Lucas, that blue- that man" I twisted slightly in his grip, to look at the man who was now dressed as a servant, but he was no longer there. The only tell of him actually being there were the tiny fragments of glass littering the floor.

"Who?" He asked calmly while running his hands up and down to try to get me to calm.

"I don't feel safe, you said you'd keep me safe, right?" And he immediately nodded. "I want to leave. I have a bad feeling." I pushed back the tears that were starting to dwell in my eyes.

"Okay. Let's go." He said, and I let out a breath of relief at his lack of questioning until the lights flickered. I glanced up and saw the lights grow dimmer, Lucas was doing the same. The lights had cast a shadow on his face.

"What the..."

The lights shut off, leaving the room dark and full of anxiety. Lucas immediately pulled me to his side, his grip was tight. He wasn't planning on letting me go any time soon. "It's okay. I can still see you. You'll be fine." He reassured upon hearing the frantic rhythm of my heart, whispering into my ear.

I tried to steady my breathing, as I wrapped my arms around him. I wasn't planning on letting him go either.

"Zeke!" I felt his chest rumble as he yelled. "Turn on the lights!"

I heard Zeke's distant voice call out. "You got it!"

My heart pounded, and I felt Lucas pull me even closer, and I took haven in his safety. "Calm down, I won't let anything happen to you." And I nodded against him, a silent tear falling down my cheek.

I heard the click of a trigger, and so did Lucas when I felt him grow stiff. A shot rang through the air, and Lucas pulled me down quickly. The shards digging into my palm as it made contact with the floor.

"Mother fucker!" I heard Lucas groan, as he pushed me under a table, following suit.

I moved closer towards his silhouette. "Lucas? What happened" I asked, fearing the worst.

"Silver bullet..." And I gasped. "He didn't shoot me. Don't worry," My heartbeat slowed down slightly. "The bullet just grazed my arm."

My eyes adjusted to the darkness and I could make out Lucas' face in the dark. The crinkles in his forehead were abundant, as we both heard growls rip through the air and the fast movement of scurrying steps.

"How are we gonna get out of here..." Lucas whispered to himself, and I swallowed back a choke.

I heard shuffling come from the outside of the table, and I felt myself being dragged out by the hair. My scalp crying out in pain.

"Lucas!"
