Chapter 14: Affair

After leaving the office we went back to Chance mom's house to check on Ayanna. We had left her there while we had gone to the lawyer's office, which I was still trying to wrap my head around. How had I gone in there from telling Chance I wanted to take things slow to leaving engage? Then there was the Rose conundrum.

I had asked Chance about her on the way home. He told me all he was able to remember about that night was just like the other time. He had gone to a bar after a long day at the office and started drinking. There would be a girl there who remind him of me and then he took her back to her place. When he woke up a few hours later he notices what had happened and just got up and left. He never once thought that any of these girls could be my sister or that I had any siblings out there. He was as much in the dark like I was.

Here I was sitting now in one of the lawn chairs watching Chance run around the backyard with Ayanna thinking how they both seem much happier with one another. Ayanna laugher was filling the air around us as she played with her father with Chance's laugher mix with hers, bring a smile to my face. I knew I was doing the right thing about finally giving Chance the opportunity he had been asking for all week, just seeing my daughter happy. I just wasn't so sure able being engaged to a guy I really didn't know anymore.

I knew this was the only way I could have my new life, while keeping Rose out of it. I just hope Chance kept his word and didn't try to push me into marrying him any time soon. I was still trying to get used to this new Chance and try to forget the old one that I knew growing up. It was wrong for me to keep throwing that in his face when he has shown me time and time again that he not the same boy.

"Mommy" Ayanna screams running over to me, which Chance changes her from behind. "Help the monster going to get Me." she was laughing as her father made a rowing sound.

I leaned over opening my arms up to her. Right when she was at fingertip length Chance picked her up swings her around "Oh No you don't. You're mine." He laughed, giving her butterfly kisses along her face.

"Daddy stop." she giggled. He put her back down on her feet only for her to run off again. "You can't chance me." she playfully yelled back over to him.

He looked over at her and smiled. "That little girl's got too much energy. How did you handle her for all this year?" he asked while keeping his head turned watching Ayanna run around.

"I had help. Your forgetting there was Julia, her brother Greg there for me when she was a baby. Then, with Carlos, Julia's boyfriend, who a goofball and with those three plus Aunt Maria she always had someone to play with." I answered, feeling a little guilty I hadn't let Chance be there to help with her also.

I down cased my eyes, feeling gently, till he brought his forefinger and middle together under my chin and brought my head back up to look into his eyes. "I'm glad to know you had help and that you didn't have to do it all on your own. Don't start going back into your shell and blocking me out for something that happen in the past. We're past all that bullshit and we're going to be a happy family now. I'm not going anywhere and will be beside your side from this day till the day I die."

"Daddy, come play with Me." we heard Ayanna voice break through his speech.

He turns around giving her a bright smile. "In a moment, let me talk to your mommy for just a second, princess." Then he turns back around to face me as I watched Ayanna turn back to play with the flowers around the garden. "You are my life Milly, along with Ayanna now. If I have to fight all over again just to know that one day you feel for me the way I feel for you I will."

"What is it you feel for me Chance?" I asked, wanting to hear him say the words. I wanted to know for sure that he truly did and not just have him make assumptions about it.

"You're not ready to hear how I truly feel for you yet Milly. Just know I've always had this feeling for you and I will keep showing you just how much you mean to me. I'm not going to push you into saying you feel something deeply for me when I can see you're not there. The day I do tell you how I feel, I can only hope you feel the same. Just know the affection I have for you is so deep that it will kill me if you ever leave me again." he finished telling me before kissing my cheek. He then turns and went full steam picking Ayanna up when she wasn't paying attention swing her through the air, making her laugh.

* * * *

A few hours later we were pulling up to my mother's house with Chance's mother and Ayanna in the back. When I had gotten Ayanna ready to go, Chance had sat down and told his mother everything that had happened during the meeting. She wasn't pleased that he had slept with Rose, even if he didn't know at the time she was my sister. Then she was all tears when he she told him we had decided to get engaged to save my father's company.

That's how we end up in the car with her talking a mile a minute about wedding plans. Where it should be held and who to invite, who not to. Would it be better to have a summer wedding or an early autumn wedding? I looked over at Chance just see him shaking his head smiling.

"Who's getting married? Can I be the flower girl?" Ayanna got into her grandmother conversations.

"Of course you can be the flower girl, who else would we get? After all, it's going to be your mommy and daddy getting married." She told her, making me displease she just told Ayanna we weren't married. It wasn't something I wanted to discuss with Ayanna is so young. She didn't understand everything I had done to keep her from this part of my life and now it felt like it was being thrown in my face.

"Mom, please stop. Milly and I won't be getting married any time soon. We only agree on this, so she doesn't have to change her lifestyle or lose her father's company. I've been running it for the past year, so it's no trouble for me. Please just stop this commotion about wedding planning in front of our daughter." Chance finally steps in, getting her to finally stop talking about the wedding.

About that time we pulled up to my mother's house and the nerves picked back up thinking what awaits me when dinner was over. I would find out more about the secret my own father and mother had kept from me. Who was this Rose person and why didn't my parents tell me about her, before now.

Walking with my mother greeted us with open arms pulling me into her embrace. "I know you're worried about this, but please, let's try to have a nice family meal. We will deal with all the drama after dinner." I shook my head at her about the time Ayanna came running up taking over my mother's attention.

Chance then came up to me, wrapping his arm around my shoulder. "We will get through this together. You're not alone in this anymore. Remember, I'll be by your side no matter what."

"Thanks, Chance. It means a lot knowing you're willing to forgive me for everything and still try to work things out for Ayanna sake." I said as we walked into the dining room where everyone else was already sitting down.

Chance pulled out my chair and then took the seat next to me, leaving the head of the table next to him empty as his mother and our daughter took the spots across from us. My mother walked in carrying the main dish, before taking her seat next to me and Ayanna on the other end of the table. We said grace and began eating as the women made small talk about what's been going on since my mother's been away.

I was too lost in my thought about what Rose could do that would destroy my life. She hadn't been that happy with me and Chance's decision about getting married. I'm more than willing to bet if I wasn't around, she would try to seek her claws back into him again.

"Milly you need to eat." Chance voice broke through my thoughts as he took hold of my hand from under the table. "Don't stress yourself about this. It will all work out and soon she won't be in the picture." I just gave him a slight smile and try to eat.

Once we were all done Chance's mother took Ayanna upstairs to play with some of my old toys that my mother still had around. The three of us stay downstairs sitting down in the family room. Chance entangled our fingers together as my mother sat across from us.

"I really don't know how to start this." my mother said, looking around the room trying to avoid eye contact with me.

"How about you start from the beginning, like who's Rose's mother is." I imply, not wanting to prolong this conversation anymore. It was time to get to the bottom of who this Rose girl was, even if I had to hair and private eye I would.

"OK from the beginning, it is." she said, taking a deep breath. "Right before you were conceived your father and I were having problems and there was talk of divorce. Your father had this scandalous secretary at the time who was trying to get in between us, which was causing most of our problems. I started noticing right before I found out I was pregnant how your father was acting strange. When I finally confront him, he open up to me and told me that one night he and some business parents went out for drinks. Rose's mother was there and he ends up having an affair with her. I was heartbroken and was thinking of filing for divorce, but then I found myself pregnant with you. I knew then I had to forgive your father for that mistake and when he told me the news he fired that women we thought she was gone; till she show up that night here saying she was pregnant and it was his. Rose was born a few weeks after you and we immediately had a DNA test ran. When the test came out positive we didn't know what to do, since we had a newborn baby ourselves. Your father made an agreement with her to pay child support, but nothing more."

"That doesn't explain why you never told me." I yelled at her. "Don't you think it would have been nice to know I had a sister out there?"

"Don't you raise your voice at me, I'm still your mother." She throws back, "It's not like you're any better, running off when you found yourself pregnant. You keep that little girl a secret to everyone who loves you."

"I wonder where I got to keep secrets from." I came back with. It didn't matter that was a cheap shot at her, I was pissed at my own parents could keep a secret like this from me. I had the right to know I had a sister out there and could avoid this kind of problems.

"Milly, calm down. Yes, your parents were in the wrong about not telling you. Hell, maybe if we all had known I won't have slept with her when I did." Chance put his two cents in. "But let's try to look past this. Together we can fight her off, till she is no longer in our lives."

I looked over at him with hatred boiling through my veins. "You haven't slept with her, please don't make me laugh. Chance I know you would have probably would have her tie to your bed like all the other girls in school, if you knew about her." I knew it was wrong to throw this back in his face, but I was blinded by hate to even think straight.

"Not this again. Milly listens to me. It is you I want always have been, always will be. Forget the way I was seven years, almost eight years ago, that's not me anymore. I drop my playboy ways, beside the two drunk one night stands, the night we made love to one another. I want you and I will proof every which way I can think." He said standing up looking down at me. "I want us to be a family and work together like our parents have always wanted. So drop this childish behavior and start thinking like an adult." Then he turns to walk out of the room before turning in the doorway looking back at us. "I'll leave you to finish your decision as I get Ayanna ready for our ride back home. It's going to be a long drive back and we both have work tomorrow, plus Ayanna as school in the morning." Then he walked out.

"Lilly listen to me, we kept Rose a secret because your father was a shame about what he did. He didn't what any of our close family members or friends knowing about his affair leading to him fathering a child he didn't want. We were the only people who knew, till now that is." she finish, about the time Chance came down holding Ayanna in his arms. He didn't even look over at us as he walked out the door. "Don't be too tough on the boy. He knows he messed up and I can tell he wishes he could change the way things were. Please don't let this get between us."

We both got up after that, walking outside, with Mrs. Morgan behind us. They both pulled me into a group hug, telling me bye and to take care of Chance. I got into the car as Chance went to tell them bye and hugging them. As Chance got in the driver seat I turn to see Ayanna falling asleep in her car seat. When I turn back around I could still see the hurt look on Chance face. I had done thrown our past back in his face, when he was trying his hardest to prove he wasn't that person anymore.

When we finally got on the freeway, I brought my hand over to his that was clinging onto the steering wheel and entangled our fingers together has he loosen up his hold. He brought my hand up to his lips kissing it lightly before dropping it down in his lap, smiling now, seeing how relaxed he was now. The rest of the way home was peaceful and less stressful than it had been coming out here.

Chance and I had finally found a balance that worked for the both of us. I was still unsure what would happen between us in the future, but I could see now that no matter what I said he would be next to me and help me throughout any problems that came our way. We were in this together.
