"You look a little bit pale, are you alright?" asked Victor as Julia returned from the bathroom to their booth.

"This place is a mess," she answered, disgustedly inspecting the greasy table and the mustard yellow bench showing filling through its many tears. "Look at that filth," pointing to a hole on the seat, silent witness of a time when smoking was allowed practically everywhere. "And my mom always says you can judge the cleanliness of a restaurant by the cleanliness of the bathroom. Yikes! I rather not think about what the kitchen in this dump looks like otherwise I'll lose my breakfast."

Victor, using his last piece of biscuit to mop the last bits of his own breakfast off the plate, regarded her thoughtfully.

"I am so sorry to hear your world appears worn and repelling to you. You are so young after all. Your perspective should be one of beauty and adventure. I have this friend -"

"Listen. No offense, ok? But my nerves are just a bit fried right now. So if you don't mind zip it with the weird talk for a while, huh? I think that'll really help."

"No problem," Victor, not offended in the least, beaming her his radiant smile, "let's go then" and with another one of his fluid movements he was out of the booth and out of the restaurant.

Whoa! Let's hope he picked up the check, Julia thought as she hurried after him towards the cab.
