{ Little Peanut }

My fingers typed away furiously trying to get the message sent to Sammy, wanting to know how things in California were going. So far, she has told me that California was much more different that New Haven and the East Coast in general. We both knew that the weather in the West Coast - specifically California -  was much more warmer than how it is here. Even in it’s better days (East Coast). According to her, the first day there, the temperature was around 102 degrees fahrenheit. I’m sure she would have a tan in no time. But for the most part, she was really liking it there. When I had asked if she had met the in-laws yet, she said that it was the most nerve-racking and terrifying thing she ever had to do. I’m sure it wasn’t that bad. She was just exaggerating that’s all.

To: Sammy

-How in the heck am I suppose to know what make you a ‘Cali Girl’ ?

Yes. Sammy had asked me if I knew if she could be called a ‘Cali Girl’ now that she had been living in California for a few days. I had no idea what possessed her to think I would know such thing. Though I was a little curious myself…

From:Sammy

-I was hoping that maybe you knew...but oh well. Hey, I need to go it’s pretty late over here. Don’t forget to send me pics of the ultrasound!! Bye my lovely!!

I smiled at that and send her a goodbye as well. It kind of sucked that we were in different time zones and that made it more difficult to talk….Placing my phone back into my purse, I gave Alexandro a quick glance. He had been really quiet all morning. Only saying a few words here and there. He didn’t even say goodbye to Sarah when she had left. I wasn’t sure what was wrong with him or if it was just me he was being quiet with and nothing was wrong. As much as I wanted to talk about the kiss the other night, I just could not find myself to find the right words to bring it up. I still wanted to know what it meant...if it meant anything at all…

Looking up ahead, I saw John sitting in the passenger seat of the black SUV, looking out the window at the passing scenery. Next to him was Vin Diesel look-alike, who I found out was named Paul. He was driving and would once in a while look down at the GPS. Nothing really interesting was really happening. Deciding to look back at Alexandro again, I was surprised to find him already staring at me.

“My family is having a dinner later this evening and I was wondering if you would like to go with me. It’s my mothers birthday,” he asked. This was the most  he had said to me all morning. I didn’t know what to say to his invitation. He wanted me to go to a family dinner for his mother’s birthday. He wanted me to meet his family! Damn it! I jinxed myself when I told Sammy about how meeting the family was not a big deal. How will they think of me? I’m not even in a relationship with Alexandro. Would he introduce me as a friend of his, who happens to be pregnant with his child? Oh gosh, what are we going to say about the pregnancy?!

“Marie?” I was brought back ny Alexandro’s voice. Looking at him, I saw he was still waiting for an answer. “Oh, sorry. Uh..y-yeah. I’ll go.” Honestly I have no idea why I agreed. I was so not looking forward to this dinner.

“Great! We’ll be leaving around 7:30 tonight… Don’t worry, my mother isn’t too keen on bid celebrations. It will most likely just be my family and really close friends. Also, we’ll be arriving in a few minutes to the doctor’s offices,” he said giving me a small smile. I smiled back deciding to worry about the dinner later and focus on the appointment. “I’m sure you are going to like Doctor Collins. He is really great. He’s been the families doctor for a very long time now, even helped my mother giving birth to me.”

“I’m sure I will. Just not sure how to feel knowing I’ll be seeing this little peanut for the first time.” I said pack, placing a hand over my stomach. It was true, though, I didn’t really know How I felt knowing that I will see our baby for the first time. Even if it was through a black and white screen. Alexandro smiled back and gently placed one of his own hands over my own.

~*~*~

“Hello, I’m Doctor Collins. It is very nice to meet you, Miss Williams.” A man who looked to be somewhere between his late fifties and early sixties greeted. He gave of that aura of friendliness and I automatically knew he was going to be a great doctor.

“It’s nice meeting you too, Doctor Collins,” I replied shaking his hand. I took a step back as Alexandro greeted him next. They had a little conversation consisting of doctor Collins asking about Alexandro’s father and his own health. Once they finished, I was handed a gown to change into by one of the assisting nurses, as Alexandro took a seat on a chair place by the observation table. She told me I only had to change shirts, which was a relief to me. I did not want to have to change completely. Doctor Collins was getting everything ready as I stepped into the bathroom in the room to change.

I held my shirt in one hand as I stepped out of the bathroom and walked over to the bed. Alexandro reached out for my shirt and placed it on top of my purse that laid next to him. I sat up on the bed and looked at Doctor Collins as he took out my file and sat on a revolving stool in front of me. “So, Miss. Williams, you say that you are about two months along, right? You’ve already been to a Doctor before as well?” I nodded my head and he continued, “Now have you been taking your Prenatal Vitamins?”

“Uh...no I have not..,” I quietly mumbled. I received a raised eyebrow from the doctor and a...well I don’t know what you would call the face Alexandro currently had.

“And why is that? You are given Prenatal Vitamins whenever you first see a doctor about a pregnancy. It is very important that you take these vitamins, Miss. Williams,” he scold me. I felt like I was a little girl getting in trouble by her father at the way he was giving me disapproving look and his way of talking.

“Well, the thing is...I might have ran out of the doctor’s office as soon as she told me I was pregnant. Thus, not given the vitamins,” I fiddled with my fingers that laid on top of my lap. I bit my bottom lip in a nervous manner looking between Doctor Collins and Alexandro. The doctor was shaking his head and writing something down, as for Alexandro, he just gave me a disappointed look. “I was scared okay!” I said trying to defend my actions.

“Okay, then. I will be giving you the vitamins-which you will take as told- and we could begin with the Ultrasound. Now if you can please lay down for me.” I did as I was told and laid on my back. The lights in the room were suddenly turned off as the monitor was turned on. I stared at the ceiling above me trying to get my heart under control. I was going to see my baby and possibly hear a heartbeat. I felt Alexandro move closer to me and take my hand in his. I looked over at him and smiled. My attention was removed from him when The assisting nurse came over and lifted my gown up, just below my breasts, and applied a cold liquid. Making me flinch a little. Doctor Collins rolled his way over to me as he half faced me and half-faced the monitor, and slowly place the wand thingy on my stomach, and began moving it around. It was all quiet until a fast thumping was heard throughout the room. I instantly knew what it was. The baby’s heartbeat. I huge smile grew in my face at the sound of it.

“Ah, here it is,” Doctor Collins said, pointing at a small peanut looking spot in the monitor. “This right here is your baby. By the size… I would say you are about 10 weeks along.” I felt tears build up in my eyes as I continued to stare at my little peanut. Just looking at my baby, made it that much more real and made my love for it increase much more. I looked over at Alexandro and found him staring intently at the monitor. Looking closely, I noticed his eyes had a glint to them. He was tearing up as well. I gave his hand a squeeze causing him to look at me. When he looked down, a tear escaped his eye and rolled down his handsome face.

I didn’t know what to door how I felt, but the feelings were definitely good ones. Leaning down, he slowly placed a small kiss on my lips. I honestly didn’t care at the moment that, that little kiss would have me more confused about what was going on with us. In that moment the only thing that mattered was the little life growing inside of me. Nothing more.
