Jessica practically dragged herself up the three flights of stairs to get to her apartment, thanks to the elevator still being out of order. Today had been a long day and suddenly she was doubting whether or not she could survive three months of this intern.

It wasn't just the job though it was that boss of hers. He's nothing like she expected. Yes she'd read news paper articles about him and his family but even those printed pictures could have prepared her for meeting Javier Sànchez in person.

The man oozed of power and confidence yet he had a boy quality about him. That made him very intimidating and an enigma. Once Jessica feels threatened she instantly becomes sarcastic and somewhat guarded. Trust is not something that comes easily for her so if being outspoken and sarcastic kept guys away from her then that is what she did.

Growing up life hadn't been easy for her. She was use to constantly being let down and hurt by the persons closest to her. That's one of the reasons she decided to get an apartment off campus. She didn't want to go through the process of bonding with a roommate just for that person to turn around and stab her in the back too, oh no she'd made sure to search for a cheap apartment as soon as her college acceptance letter had come in the mail.

Being a small town farm girl moving to the city had been somewhat of a culture shock for her. Everything was different, the food, the fashion, the accent and even the buildings were big enough to swallow the sized buildings they had back home. She had no choice but to adjust though so that's exactly what she did. She found a job at a local pizza shop and worked six days per week to help pay her rent. Now that her final year had come around she had no choice but to put her pride aside and let her older brothers take on her financial burdens. Especially since she had to quit her job in order to finish assignments and start her internship.

Things do get lonely every now and then but she had become accustomed to being that odd girl with no friends. There was this one girl from her English class named Naomi that she hung out with every now and then but she still kept her at a distance. The pain of being hurt by someone you considered a friend is not a pain she ever wanted to experience ever again.

She kicked off her shoes and tossed her bag on her second hand couch and headed for the kitchen. Pulling open the refrigerator she reached for the bottle of orange juice and drank a mouthful without bothering to pour it in a cup. She could just hear her older brother now.

Cici stop behaving like you have no home training and use a darn cup!

She smiled and replaced the bottle and grabbed a bag of chips then headed for the couch. Before sitting down she pulled her blouse out of her skirt and reached under to unhook her bra. She breath a sigh of pleasure at that sense of freedom you get when taking off your bra at the end of a tiring day. Not wanting to move any further she tossed it on the couch before plopping down next to it and switched on the TV. She was just in time to catch a new episode of criminal minds.

Somewhere between a somewhat creepy man talking to a blind boy on a scooter, she must have fallen asleep because the next thing she knew she was being woken up by the insistent ringing of her cell phone. She twisted her body and released a half groan half moan, you know, that sound you make when you stretch after waking up.

She pulled her cell phone from the table and answered.

"What?" She barked into the phone.

"Now is that any way to greet your favorite brother?"

"Joseph what do you want" she groaned

"Damn you're grumpy, I must have woken you up" she heard the laughter in his voice.

"No shit Sherlock"

"Language young lady"

"You have three minutes" she warned.

"Fine. Jordan wanted me to tell you he already sent your landlord your rent for the next two months so you don't have to worry"

"Why didn't he just tell me himself?"

"He's busy on a date tonight"

"With Amy?"

"Amy?" He sounded puzzled

"Yeah you know, strawberry blonde, big boobs, tiny waist"

"Oh her"

She rolled her eyes and shook her head at his response.

"Yes her"

"She was two girlfriends ago"

"You guys are the reason I don't trust men!"

"Good! Too bad we didn't get that through your head earlier"

"Joseph..."

"Sorry. Anyway kiddo I have to run. I need to go pick up ...a friend...for a ...sleepover"

"Ew! Over sharing bro bye"

She hung up and checked the time. It was only eight thirty. Just enough time to eat a quick dinner then work on some assignments. Not being in the mood to cook she put on her kettle to warm some water so she could pour it in her noodles. She worked on her art education assignment until almost eleven then stripped off her clothes and headed for the shower.

The warm water gently soothed her tense muscles and helped her to relax. She closes her eyes and immediately and image of Javier's dark brown eyes popped up in her mind.

Get out of my head! Stop thinking about him. The man is as stuck up as it gets! God bless whoever has to deal with him on a daily basis.

"And that will be me...for the next three months" she said to herself as she turned the water off and stepped out of the shower unto her bathmat.

Wrapping herself in a towel she brushed her hair until all the knots were out then braided it in a long plait before sliding under the covers. As she lay there her thoughts were filled with images of her new boss. She tossed and turned for hours unable to sleep. She lay there in the dark waiting for sleep to come and before she knew it she was being woken up to bright light coming through her bedroom window. She looked over at her bedside clock and bolted out of bed.

"Shit!"
