"I need to tell you something. You're probably going to be mad, but I can't marry you unless you know about this. So, I'm going to tell you and I just ask that you listen to the full story. If you don't like it, you can leave. You still have your own home."

"Um okay."

I sat down in the chair across from Coltons desk. He seemed nervous about whatever he has to say. Normally he looked kept together, but instead his tie was undone and his shirt was only buttoned up halfway. I licked my lip thinking of pouncing on him before remembering I had to be serous.

"I did kill someone that night Cash. You weren't seeing things."

I thought I saw a kangaroo too. Maybe I did

"I killed him along with others because they were going to kill you and Grace. I've been responsible for nearly every murder that happened here. Some for fun and others to keep you safe. I'm a killer Cash. I run a gang. All of the guys here are in a gang. Drugs, prostitution rings, gun dealing. I do it all. I'm a terrible person. I'm an awful person going to hell, but I love you Cashmere. I'd do anything for you and do anything to keep you safe."

I sat there in shock. Occasionally I felt my mouth dropping open then quickly closing it. Colton was waiting for my answer but I didn't know what to say. I didn't even know if I could breathe. My dad was right that I didn't know him.

"I still love you. I still want to marry you." I finally said.

It was his turn to be shocked. He walked over to me pulling me into his large arms.

"I still wouldn't have let you go."

My alarm going off brought me back to my harsh reality. After a month out of school it was time to go back. I nudged Mia trying to wake her up, but even she wasn't ready to wake up this early.

"I don't wanna go." I pouted.

"Then don't." Colton shrugged.

Colton was the worst person to get encouragement from. I would also groan about not wanting to go to work or to school and he would simply say not to go. Then I would remember my mother who was always an example of not becoming dependent on a man and, I would ignore Colton and go.

"I'll see you later." I hugged him goodbye and followed Allen and Adam out of the house.

I'm not ready. I'm not ready for this. I had managed to cover my wounds with makeup, but I was constantly checking to make sure it hadn't come undone. To make matters worse the twins managed to get suspended before school even started.

I walked up to my locker focusing intently on my combination. Everyone was staring at me. I doubted anyone knew what happened, but I was gone for awhile. I lifted my hood over my head trying to conceal myself from them.

"Hey what's up."

An older guy in a football jersey was standing by my locker. I noticed his friends were watching us.

"So I hear you look like Frankenstein now."

"Do I fucking look like Frankenstein?" I snapped.

"Maybe that's why you have so much makeup on. I wanna see."

I rolled my eyes. "Fuck off."

"Aww look! Frankenstein's getting married."

"I wonder what Frankenstein's husband looks like."

Hotter than any of you

"Husband of Frankenstein. Just doesn't have the same ring to it."

The small group of people suddenly turned into a large crowd of people laughing.

I'm never coming back here again

"There really is someone out there for everyone."

"Makes me believe in true love."

"Too bad you'll never know that Kate. You'll just date someone while you look good and once that fades he'll leave you, just like your parents did."

I snapped my head to see Graces brother coming to my rescue.

"Everyone better get the fuck out of my sight."

"Thanks." I told him before heading into class.

Through the day the jokes continued. I was now known as Frankenstein. How original. Only a year and a half until graduation. Kiran tried to console me by telling me everyone would forget soon, but I wasn't so sure. There wasn't much scandal here.

"Hey."

I looked up from my lunch seeing Chris and a few of his friends sitting down at my table. Chris was a senior and other than knowing he was popular since he was the quarterback I didn't know much else about him.

"Hi."

"I figured you could use some company. This is Derrick, Hazannah, Darren, and Southern. Guys, this is Cash. She's friends with Grace."

They all said hello to me and I made small conversation with them here and there.

"So when's the wedding?" Hazannah asked.

"In June."

Although Colton and I wanted the wedding to be soon I wanted part of the reception to be outside, so we had to push the date for warmer weather.

"That's so exciting. I wonder if I'll ever find a guy who loves me enough to buy me a ring that big."

Why do women base a mans love on the size of a ring? Just because he's rich doesn't mean he loves you. Before my mom pawned it for crack she had a pretty big ring. My dad only married her because she was pregnant with me. They only knew each other for a month. It was a short lived bliss. I just happened to get lucky finding Colton. A rather tragic situation turned into something so magical. It was almost too perfect to be real.
