He let go of her hand. "What are you trying to say?"

"I've known you for almost ten years, Cainan, so I know you're smart enough to understand what I'm trying to say." She says in reply.

He remembers breaking things off with her over twelve weeks ago but all the while they were together, he really thought that they were safe, she told him to use protection most of the time and she was always on pills because according to her, she couldn't bear the thought of having Hugo's child. "It can't be true," his eyes drop to her somewhat swollen belly, "how?"

He cannot help wanting to know the truth. Clara has never lied to him before and there was no need to lie now, especially when it put her in a dangerous place.

"Hugo was on a business trip, probably one of those times in your office when we thought birth control pills were all we needed and you didn't put on a condom?" She whispers-yell at him before adding, "But don't worry, I'm not forcing you to acknowledge or even accept the child, just begging you to not put me into a tighter situation than I already am!" She walks away from him in a hurry.

He takes a while to process the truth that he just found out. As much as he wants to protest against her accusation about him not wearing a condom despite her being the impatient one during sex, something greater is happening. It's with Clara, being to death at the idea of being seen with him and he has been trying to wrap his hand around it. This is it. Clara being so terrified of Hugo that she didn't want to be seen with him. He runs after her and he catches her again, but this time she struggles to get out of his grip.

"Let me go!" She ground out through gritted teeth, desperately struggling to set herself free from him.

He releases his grip but doesn't let her go. "Is Hugo physically hurting you?"

"What do you care?!" she spat out at him. Their little escapade, although at the night, still brings a little attention from the people at the resort to them and some had crossed looks.

It hurt him she thinks he doesn't care about her safety because he still does. They might be over, but that doesn't mean everything has changed. "I do care, always, and if you are carrying my child, I'd want you to be in a completely safe place. You and our child." He genuinely replies.

Tears well up in her eyes as she stares up at him. "God is punishing me for all the wrong and evil things I've done to you. He's punishing me, Cainan."

He shakes his head, refusing to agree with her, "I don't believe that, but even if he is, Hugo is in no place to execute judgement for what you have done. Is he hurting you?" He asks again.

She bites down on her lower lips as tears roll down her eyes, but she doesn't answer his questions before saying, "One of them is here!" She tells him, with more tears running down her face.

"Is he going to hurt you? Answer me!" Cainan demands this time harder.

"He suspects that I'm pregnant with your child. What do you think?" She finally yanks her hand from his hand and as he lets go, she hurries away from him and out of the resort. This time, Cainan doesn't follow her. He just stands and watches until she disappears into the night.

"Honestly, I thought they had arrested you for going out of control and murdering everyone on your path last Friday," Neriah admits as Cainan steps into her room and remains at the door. She closes the bible in her hand and drops it beside her on the lampstand.

He draws closer to her bedside. "Do you believe in God, Ria?"

Okay, three things just happened here, she thought. One, he ignored her playful accusations of killing ten people. Two, he asks about her beliefs and three he used a pet name with her, one only Shawn called her. What's happened to him in the past three days?

"Yeah, I believe in God, Cainan," she replies with a small nod, her tone going serious.

His brows draw together questionably, "Why? I mean, why would you after everything?"

Her eyes narrow at his accusing tone of voice as she lets it go. "I don't need a reason, he's good always." She concludes with deep conviction.

He chuckles in disbelief, "Always good? Even when he's the reason you're dying?"

To that she snaps, "He's not the reason I'm dying, Cainan, and what's wrong with you? Why are you attacking my belief suddenly?" She demands, not so happy with his attitude.

"I didn't mean it to come out that way." He apologises, coming to sit down on the chair beside the bed.

She gives him her hand, and he accepts. "I know something is wrong, so tell me what's wrong?"

"Clara's pregnant."

"The baby is yours?"

He nods as his head drops. "She believes God is punishing her for all the wrong things she has done to me. Maybe she's right, maybe God's punishing the both of us for being horrible people."

She presses her lips together and shakes her head. "I don't believe that Cainan, you made a mistake, a very terrible one, both of you did."

He laughs at the way Neriah is looking at it and how naïve is she? "It's not a mistake if you do it more than twice and feel no remorse."

He was right, but it's a long way from the person Cainan used to be and as for Clara, Neriah didn't know her well, but she tries to believe she's done things right since her breakup with Cainan. "That's in the past, you've changed."

To that, he agrees, and his eyes soften as he stares at her. "Because of you."

She tries to let go of his hand, but he grabs onto hers like his life depends on it. "I know I shouldn't say it out loud, and I know you've got Shawn, but I can't help it."

She nods, "Shawn broke things off with me on Friday."

"What?!" He exclaims loudly, which is unintentional. "Why would he do such a stupid thing?"

Shawn was acting like an annoying jerk and getting on his nerves with his cowardly behaviour. He hopes he didn't leave her because he was insecure about him.

Pain flashed in her eyes for a second before it disappears, "He's scared if he doesn't let go now, he might never after I'm gone, along with other reason which you were one of."

"Oh?" His voice drops as he releases his grip around her hand, but she doesn't pull away.

She shrugs. "We are still friends. He was here yesterday."

Her response help reduces his rage and anger towards Shawn. Guess he wouldn't have to fire him when next he sees him.

"Well, I'm glad you two are still friends. You uniquely complete each other."

She rolls her eyes at his noble response. "You don't have to be so noble, Cainan, but thanks. What do you plan to do about Clara and your baby now?"

He runs his hand through his hair and briefly closes his eyes before saying, "Hugo is hurting her, from what she told me, and he believes the baby is not his and he's looking for proof. I need to get her away from him."

"What if she doesn't want to leave? What then?"

"I won't be able to help her and it'll hurt. But I can't say I'm not used to being hurt and betrayed by people."

"I'm sorry, Cainan."

"All my life I've always wanted one thing, to find someone who would love me for me and protect them, and when I met Clara, I believed she was the one. I thought she felt the same way. Maybe I just wanted to believe that she did. Age didn't matter... Well, to me, it didn't. All I cared for was her shouting her name and telling the world she was mine. Then she broke me by calling our three years relationship quit announcing her engagement to Hugo. Those were the darkest moments of my life. It felt as though all the odds were against me and I went crazy and had to pull away from the public eyes and that was when I worked the hardest. I put in all I had into the Inferno group worldwide."

"After two years of not moving on, I met Samantha through one of my business meetings and although it was all for the wrong reason; I began a relationship with her, trying to make myself move on. I couldn't let Clara go because I loved her still and about a year ago when I confronted her and she told me she still loved me, which was all I needed. It's a surprise that no one knew about us then, even though we were less than careful. I thought I was happy, but I wasn't. When she left the second time, I wanted to make her pay for hurting me so many times, but then I got to know you and you took a place in my heart I didn't think anyone else could take. You didn't have to lie, manipulate, hurt or deceive me and yet here I am with my heart on the line once again."

"It's only going to end up broken 'cause I won't be here forever, Cainan," she says as a tear roll down her cheek.

"I know," he says, wiping the tear stain from her face.

She shakes her head, trying to "No you don't know that, if you did, you wouldn't have fallen for me."

He gets up from the chair and moves toward her on the bed, "Honey, I know, but I've got you here and now and that's what I need." He brings her hand up to his mouth and places a kiss on the back of it.

"I want to come home, Cainan. I want to come home. And I don't think this hospital can help me more than they've already had."

He nods, "Then we go home, today." He smiles at her and she smiles in return.
