I woke up to the sound of footsteps near the edge of the bed. In my half asleep state I assumed that I was in danger and tried to keep my breathing as even as possible. I knew that the scent didn’t belong to Mikhail plus no matter how much of an ass he could be I seriously doubted he would let many people into his place and this close to his sleeping and very vulnerable mate. The presence seemed to hover like the person was unsure and then I felt them growing closer. My eyes snapped open and I quickly sat up and grabbed my unsuspecting attack by the arm and threw them over me onto the bed before getting on top of them my hands gripping their throat. I let out what I hoped was a fierce growl in their face.

The face that was looking back up at me had me shocked. It was the young teenage rogue I had defended not so long ago. I loosened my hold on his throat, “What are you doing in here?” I asked him, “Don’t you know never to sneak up on someone while they’re sleeping? I could have killed you.” His eyes are as wide as saucers as he stairs up at me, “I’m s-s-sorry. I wanted to make sure you were still alive—“ I couldn’t help but smile down at him. What a sweet kid! He had been worried about me this whole time and risked his neck to check up on me.

“Well as you can see I’m still very much alive but you almost became very dead kid. How did you get in here?” I ask raising my eyebrow. He seemed a little anxious, “I snuck in when I saw the enforcer leaving. The lock on the front door was rather easy to pick…” I look down at him and let out a chuckle over his admission, “Picked many locks in your life?” He looks away from me as if weighing his answer, “I used to try an escape a lot when I was younger…” He says softly. I smile at him and then lean down so that I bring myself close to him.

He’s a young but it’s clear that he going to grow into a strong man. Looking at him makes me feel a kinship as thought in some other life he could have been my brother. There is an ache in my chest as my eyes continue to inspect him closely the scares of what had been done to him marking his body. I knew deep down that he wouldn’t survive into his manhood because these wolves would be scared of what he’d be capable of. I truly wanted to help this kid with everything that was inside of me and my wolf seemed to agree very much. I sniffed him and he stiffened under me as if he was afraid.

I reached up and gently petted his hair which was in need of some brushing cause it felt a little matted but I tried to ignore that, “I’m going to protect you no matter what—My wolf tells me your very important to me.” I say into his ear gently. He relaxes underneath me, “I feel the same way about you—-Elena…” He says my name with hesitation as if I might rip his head off or something for using it. I smile to myself as I pull back into a sitting position, “In the future you probably shouldn’t sneak in here. If Mikhail caught you he’d probably—“ A low growl echoed through the room and my body stiffened at the sound. I looked down at the boy and he was looking up towards me with wide eyes.

“Please tell me that was you…” I say down to him and he shakes his head back and forth. I quickly look back over my shoulder and find Mikhail standing in the door with a look of pure murderous rage in his bright blue eyes. I now realize that the situation I’m in right now must look really bad. I mean I’m straddling another guy in towel that barely covers my body something I hadn’t thought about this entire time.

I let out a nervous laugh, “I can explain this. It’s definitely not what it looks like—“ Mikhail opens his mouth and let out one mean roar. I mean like the lions in Africa would have been running away with there tails tucked between their legs. I scrambled off of the boy quickly positioning myself in front of him with my arms out as if to shield him from view, “Don’t you roar at me like that!” I said with a stern voice, “You don’t even know what was going on—“ He growls at me again and my lips press together tightly, “He was lay underneath my mate!” Clearly we weren’t going to be able to talk about this like civilized people. I mean I should have known better when it comes to werewolves its bite first ask questions later.

Mikhail charges into the room and I feel my wolf take over and I let out my own terrifying roar at him which caused him to pull up short. I didn’t even know personally that I had something like that inside of me but it felt good. Mikhail let out some deep breathes, “Move aside mate so I kill the little runt.” He looks pass me to the bed where I was sure the boy laid petrified. I put my hands on Mikhail’s chest, “Mikhail he’s just a kid do you really think I would do something like that with him when I have someone as dark and broody as you.”

“He was laying underneath you—“ He starts again and I roll my eyes, “I was actually trying to kill him honestly. He scared me and I kind of attacked him.” He looks down at me and then over to the boy, “Is that true?” I looked over my shoulder at him and the boy look between the two of us before frantically nodding his head like his life depended on it and well it kind of did. I looked to Mikhail and he looked down at me, “Clearly you failed to kill him…” He comments to me, “Allow me to finish what you started.” He starts to move forward and I put my hands on his chest to hold him back, “No need—He asked for forgiveness already and I’m feeling merciful. So let’s just let it be shall we? No reason for anyone to die over a misunderstanding.” He looked down at me and then wrapped his strong arms around me.

He growled at the boy over my shoulder as if to say that he better never touch me again. I rolled my eyes at the possessiveness of Alpha males. I wrap my arms around him and pat his back lightly, “Okay big boy. We all get it. Elena is yours. No one touch.” I let my arms fall and I pull back from his hold on me, “Now can we let the poor boy get up without ripping his head off? Hmm?” He takes a step back with a brief nod of his head. I look back to the boy and motion with my head for him to get up. He hesitates for a moment and then gets up keeping is eyes focused on the ground.

“How did you get in here?” He asks still a little gruffness to his voice. The boy kept his eyes down, “I waited until you left and then I picked the lock. I swear I only wanted to make sure—Elena was okay.” He looked up a little toward Mikhail and then quickly to me. I gave him a smile before looking back to Mikhail, “Isn’t that sweet? He wanted to make sure I was okay.” I cooed at Mikhail as if to reassure him that there was no reason to kill him. Mikhail looked down at me, “Very endearing.” He replied dryly.

“Well now that we’ve sorted this all out. You should probably head back to your post before anyone sees your missing. Wouldn’t want you to get into anymore trouble.” I say to the boy. He nods his head and starts to leave but Mikhail interrupts his escape, “Hold up.” The boy pauses and then turns back and looks at Mikhail, “What’s your name?” He asks. The boy looks down to the ground, “I don’t have one sir.”

I feel my heartbreaking all over again and Mikhail looks over to me with a let gentleness in his eyes before looking away and clearing his throat, “Well next time you want to come see Elena maybe you just talk to me or one of the enforcers first. To avoid any more——Misunderstandings.” The boy smiles a bit and then nods his head. I couldn’t help but smile. When Mikhail wasn’t bark orders and trying to rip peoples heads off he could be a pretty decent guy. Mikhail motions with hand, “Now run along.” The boy quickly takes off.

I smile at him and when he catches me he raises an eyebrow, “What are you smiling about?” He asks with curiosity. I shrug my shoulders, “Oh nothing at all.” I say. He continues to look at me, “Uh-huh. Well I came to get you so that we could all talk about  Victor and what were going to do next. I thought you might want to be there.” I nod my head, “Definitely! But first, maybe I could get some clothes?”
