Home is the place where someone lives and grows, usually in a house or an apartment. For me, that place was just ripped away from me.

"Dad, do we really have to move half way across the country?" I complained.

"Yes, Aspen your mom got a big promotion and it requires us moving to San Francisco."

My mom got a new radio job in San Francisco, so we had to pack up our lives and move half way across the country. I left the only thing I have ever known in all sixteen years of my life.

It wasn't long into our four hour flight.

"I was happy in Kansas. I had friends there. It's the middle of my junior year. I don't want to start at a new school. It'll be awkward."

"It's the beginning of the year, school has only been going for less than a month. You'll be fine, I promise"

Mom has been asleep for a few hours now. I have been listening to music and sketching.

Finally, we arrived in San Francisco. We rented our car until our cars arrived here, which should be tomorrow. We drove by my new school and went to our new house.

The house looked nice and it was in a nice neighborhood. It's way better than the apartment we had back in Kansas.

The truck with our stuff was supposed to show up and hour after we did. So we decided to get to know the city that would be our new home.

San Francisco is not bad. I saw a lot of people walking around. Teenagers hung out with their friends. Couples played with their children in the park. People people their dogs. It was just like any other city.

Dad got the message that the truck was there and we went back to the house.

A couple came out of the house to the left of us.

"Hey, we're the Sanders." The man said. He looked in his late thirties or early forties. "I'm Chuck and this is my wife Abby" he shook my mom's hand.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Christina and that's my husband Alec and my daughter Aspen" mom said pointing towards my dad and me.

"Kit Kat, can you open the door for me?" Dad yelled across the yard. He strained as he carried a big box.

I jogged over to him and opened the door.

"We have a daughter and a son around her age too. They won't be back until Monday night though, they're staying at their grandparents this weekend" I heard from across the yard.

"That's so nice. I would invite y'all in but how about y'all come over for dinner sometime next week?"

"Yeah, we would like that" Abby smiled at my mom.

"Do you need any help? You look like you could use an extra hand" Chuck asked.

"That would be great, thanks"

I don't what my parents were thinking king when they decided to move their family half way across the country after being in the same place for sixteen years.

I had no friends. I missed my our friends. I missed my old school. I missed Kanas.

I'm not good when it comes to change. I've never had to deal with it before, so I really don't know how. So far there's nothing pleasant about it whatsoever.

"Hey peanut butter cup, we're gonna grab some fast food, we'll be right back!" Dad called from downstairs.

I heard the door shut, meaning they had left. Out of boredom I grabbed my sketch pad and just started doodling random things.

I convinced my myself that maybe it wouldn't be so bad.
