Ellie's eyes wouldn't leave me while sitting in the fire truck. I want these days to go by faster. Hopefully, after the four days are done. I won't have to see her again.

From my view, I could see the apartment building on fire and smoke coming from some windows. Seeing people along the sidewalks watching as the building burned.

Once we stopped, I rushed out. Seeing the chief was here already. Then seeing two more fire trucks and four ambulances coming in fast.

Waiting for the chief to give us orders.

A man who is coughing walking towards me. I mean coughing good.

"What happened?" I ask him.

"I don't know...... Everything was.... fine, normal... then we heard this big bang. After that was.... smoke and fire from.... the first floor." He was coughing between saying words.

Two ladies who are paramedics came and check the guy out. Putting on an oxygen mask to help his breathing.

Hearing people coughing sitting on the sidewalk. Paramedics attending them.

Then we heard an explosion from in the building. Hearing screams. More people rushing to come out of the building.

Police officers moving people away from the building.

"Samuel, Jim, Tim, Corey, and Ellie search for anybody that is left behind," Chief said to us.

"The rest of you. Take the fire out. The firehouse 16 is going in the back of the building and helping us out." We nodded our heads and start walking towards the smoky entrance. The rest of the team rush to the trucks.

Jim was the one leading the group. Leaving Ellie close behind me. I was calm and forces. I've been in dangerous situations, but this one was the cherry on top.

The thick, dark smoke was coming through the doors. As we enter the door.

"I want Corey and Ellie on the third floor while myself and Tim on the second floor and work our way down," Samuel says to us.

Great, I'm with her. Just great.

Both of the groups went in separate directions. I was leading while she was still behind me. I found the stairs, which were in the middle of the building. As we got up to the third floor, the smoke wasn't bad but still dangerous.

I wonder how many staircases they were? I should probably ask? I looked up to see any sprinklers on the ceiling. I found some, but there wasn't any water coming out of them.

I radio in. "Chief, roger."

"Go ahead Corey, roger."

"Get somebody to turn on the water for the sprinklers, roger?"

"Okay, I'll get a team on that, roger."

"Fire department. Yell out." I shouted to whoever can hear me.

Walking slowly. I check every apartment on that floor except the last four. The smoke got thicker.

"Fire department here," Ellie shouted out loud.

Walking slowly towards the smoke. Making sure there isn't soft.

"Chief, the second floor is clear but the fire and smoke are towards the west end, roger," Samuel says on the radio.

"Good. Ah, Corey, the team looked in the basement, theirs a pipe missing for the sprinklers, roger."

How can a pipe be missing for the sprinklers? Whoever did that was so stupid and fucked up.

Chief Jeff

Our team was fighting hard, trying to take out the fire. I had three groups in there and around the building.

Then I heard shouting. Looking to my right seeing a man and a woman arguing. I walk towards them. To see if I can help.

"What's the problem?" I ask them. The woman had tears in her eyes.

"Our son is left in there. He left without him." She was pointing at him, trying not to cry. Him meaning the father of her son.

Oh shit. This is not good.

"I'm sorry but I panicked and got scared." The man said to his wife. Judging by the wedding rings on their left hand.

"What floor is he on?" I ask them quickly.

"The third floor." The mother said, looking all panicked.

I stay with the parents to get more info on them.

"Corey, there's a little boy on the floor that you're on, roger."

"What's the apartment number chief, roger?" Corey asks me.

"It's thirty-eight." The mother said and sobbing loudly. In the arms of her husband.

C.J

"It's thirty-eight. Corey, be careful, roger."

Fuck.

"What's the boy's name, roger?"

"The boy's name is Jamie, and he's three years old. Hurry, the fire is spreading fast, roger." He radios out.

"Stay behind me Ellie. This is going to get thick," I ordered her.

"Yes, sir."

Walking into the thickness of the smoke. Using my flashlight to read each number on the door.

I found it on my left. I tried to turn the knob, but the door was locked. Ellie moved out of the way. With one big kick. I ripped the door off of its hinges. A lot of smoke in there.

"Ellie, I want you to open the windows." I pointed to the windows that I wanted open.

"Okay, Corey." Nodded her head at me.

"Jamie, the fire department is here," I said out loud.

Once Ellie was done opened the windows. Letting the smoke out so we can see.

"Ellie, I want you to start down there and I'll go down the other way." I gave the direction to go.

"Got it." She says. I could hear her shouting the boy's name.

I made my way towards the bedrooms. After checking every inch of each room. With no sign of him.

"Ellie, any sign of the boy." I radio her.

"Nothing yet. You?" She asks me.

"No, but the bathroom is the last one to check."

As I was about to turn the knob. There was an enormous explosion beneath our feet. It shook the building. I almost lost my balance.

"I want everybody out of there now." The chief raised his voice over the radio.

"We are on our way, roger," Samuel said.

"We have to go now, Corey," Ellie said. The smoke got thicker and thicker with every second.

I twisted the doorknob and found the boy sitting in the bathroom, all scared. From what I could see, he's not hurt.

"We found the boy, chief roger."

"Get the boy and get out of there, roger." The chief said.

"Hi, Jamie. I'm Corey from the fire department." I introduced myself to him, knowing it will give him safety.

"Now Jamie, I need you to stand up quickly and I'm going to give you my firefighter jacket to keep you safe. Okay."

Little Jamie nodded his head.

"Corey, hurry. The fire is closed by and the smoke is too thick to see." Ellie looked all panicked. She probably doesn't want to die. The bathroom was getting smoky. Little Jamie coughed.

I unzip my jacket and gently around little Jamie. I lifted him out of the tub and holding him in my arms.

"Okay, Jamie, I'm going to give you my mask so you can breathe," I said to him and he nodded. I quickly placed him on the floor. I took off my oxygen mask and placed it on his face. Adjusting the buckle. Making sure no smoke gets in there.

"What are you doing, Corey?" Ellie looking all worried.

"He needs more than I do, Ellie."

"You're going to get yourself killed."

"I'm willing to take a risk. Now lead the way." I picked him up and followed Ellie, who's my eyes for everything.

I quickly took a breath and tried to hold it in. Carried him and not seeing him around me was tough. As we got out of the doorway. The fire was two feet away and I could feel the hotness on my exposed skin.

It was so hot that it burned on my right arm. I hissed at the pain. Then I finally took a breath of the smoke. The smoke made me cough so badly that I almost let go of him.

"Corey, do you want me to take him?" Ellie asks, looking back at me.

"No, keep going." I was feeling weak. As each step, I walked.

But I pulled all of my strength to keep going. And not to give up now.

We finally made it to the stairs. I cough more and more. I kept saying to myself that I'm almost there. You can see through the smoke.

I was having trouble breathing. This is not good. This is serious.

As we made it out, I put him down and I collapse on the ground. Trying to breathe normally was so damn hard. I was getting unconscious.

"We need a medic now." I could hear Allie yelling.

I'm fading slowly.

My breathing was very slow.

The darkness covered my eyes.

Allie

"Come on Corey. Don't die." I said to him. I didn't want him to die on me.

I watch as the paramedics worked on him. It was very hard on me.

"His pulse is 150 over 79. His breathing is very shallow." The female paramedics said. That's dangerous.

"Okay. Incubate him while I start the IV." The male paramedic said to the other one.

When I saw him. It was like love at first sight. I loved the coloured of his eyes. So dreamy. I couldn't stop looking at him, but I could tell that was irritating him.

So handsome. So good-looking.

When I saw him sitting there on the picnic table? All by himself. I wanted to talk to him alone. Seeing if he's single. I wishing the entire time.

I want him all to myself.

I watch and stayed silent. Not a sound or a word from me.

I follow him to the ambulance; his stretcher being placed at the back. I got in and sat beside him. Cradling his hand.

"Please live for me," I mumble quietly.

Tasha

Listening to music while pouring a glass of milk. Swaying my hips in a circle motion. Lip syncing to Lady Gaga, poker face.

As I was about to drink the cup of milk. My iPhone rang.

When I looked at the caller id, it was C.J. He usually calls me on my cell on the work phone.

I worried that something happened.

"Hello." In a shaky voice.

"Hi this chief Jeff....C.J got seriously injured today, and he got transportation to the hospital."

I was so speechless that my glass of milk dropped to the floor. Rushing to grab my vehicle keys and purse. I didn't reply to him. I hanged up.

During the entire way. I prayed to God to let him live because I need him here to watch our baby be born. Tears streaming down my face. I'm scared to death to see him.

I didn't call anybody. I rushed out of my house as soon as he said that. I'll probably break down if I make a phone call and can not speak.

I drove quick to the hospital. I accidentally cut off a vehicle so I could go to the parking lot. Got out of the vehicle. Speed walk to the doors. Making sure I don't trip.

I walk to the ladies at the front desk.

"Hi, I'm looking for Corey Williamson," I ask in urgent.

"Second floor and the lady at the front desk will assist you."

"Thank you."

I ran to the elevators, not waiting for others to come in. Pressing the number two button.

Please be alright. I kept saying that while going up.

Once the doors opened, I rushed to the front desk. I see his co-workers are waiting as well.

"I'm looking for Corey Williamson."

"What's your relations to this man?" She asked in a snobby way.

"I'm his pregnant girlfriend. Now, where is he?" I demand an answer from her.

"He's in surgery as we speak. If I get any updates on him, I'll tell you right away."

"Thanks," I whispered to her.

I feel the stares in the waiting room. Hopefully, they're friendly.

A man in a firefighter jacket walks towards me.

"Hi, Tasha. I'm the one who called you." So, this was chief Jeff who called me.

"I'm sorry I hang up on you." I felt terrible about doing that.

"Don't worry, I understand."

"What happened to him?" I ask him.

Chief Jeff took away from the waiting room to talk privately. Telling me they got a call from an apartment building that was on fire. Then three groups of them went into the building and C.J was one of them. Then a little boy was left behind on the third floor. My C.J rescued him by giving him his jacket and face mask. The chief went into a lot of detail about what happened.

My C.J was a hero.

My hero.

Once we walked back into the waiting area. There was one seat untouched, and it was for me. C.J's co-workers introduced themselves to me. They said one thing that made me happy about how Corey always talks about me to them.

I could tell they were trying to help me keep my chip up and stay positive. But it was hard.

I had to tell Rachel. There was no way I could speak to her and try not to break down. So, I texted her and telling her what happened. She replied and said that she was on her way.

I will probably get her to tell his parents because I can. If I speak, I'll start sobbing.

I closed my eyes and kept praying.

"Tasha," Rachel called for me. I jump out of my seat and hugged her tight.

"Tammy and the other are on their way," Rachel whispered to me.

"I can't lose him, Rach." I sob into her shoulder. She was rubbing my back.

"Don't worry, he's strong, and he has a family to go home to." I know she's trying to cheer me up, but it's not workings.

"Can you call his parents for me, please? I... I can't do it." I could count on her for anything.

"Sure. I'll just be down the hall.

Do you need anything?" She asks me. I nodded my head.

"Okay, that's fine. I'll meet you in the waiting room." Rachel turns around to make a phone call.

It seems like hours of waiting for an answer. I check every fifteen minutes to get any updates, but nothing yet. C.J's parents are on their way as we wait. I can't to his mom again. I love hanging around with her.

Finally, my parents arrived giving me support. My mom sitting close to me. I told my parents everything about what happened to him. Then my friends arrived shortly after, telling my parents. They all gave me a tight hug but making sure not to squeezing the baby out of me.

Then the doctor came out those doors.

"Family of Corey Williamson?" The doctor asks out.

I got up and walk towards him. Feeling the whole waiting area standing behind me. Feeling the love and support that stands behind me.

"How is he?" I loudly whispered to him.

The doctor looked worried to tell me.

More tears streaming down my face.

No.

This can't be.
