Tasha

I don't know how long I stared at the positive pregnancy test on the bathroom counter.

"This can't be right." I quickly grab the instructions that were in the box. I read it over three times, hoping the test might turn negative.

Holy shit, I don't know what to do. Should I tell him? Or not?

What would my family or friends say about me being single and pregnant? What will Summer think of me having her fiancé's baby?

I took my time getting dressed for work. I put on light makeup, no mascara, no lipstick, or lip gloss, and I put my hair in a messy bun.

By the time I got to the building, I hoped Bonnie wasn't at her desk area. I walk slowly towards the elevator, but the clicking of my heels was making sounds on the floor. Then Bonnie shot up from her seat and stares at me.

"Good morning Tasha." She had a very cheerful smile on her face.

"Good morning Bonnie, I'll tell you at lunch in my office."

"Okay, I'll buy lunch." I guess she knew she was right about me being pregnant. I nodded at her.

"I'll text you about what I want for lunch."

And I dashed towards the elevators, not looking back at Bonnie.

As I got out of the elevator, I went straight to the front desk to ask if I had anything for myself.

"Good morning Ms. Ford. This mail came in for you and two messages about your appointments today." She gave me my mail and messages.

"Thank you and good morning to you too."

I opened my office door, walked towards my desk, and turned on my computer. Sat in the chair and waited for it to start.

I rip open my mail and read the letters and read the messages. Two of my clients cancelled their appointments. Well, looks like I have a day with no appointments I still got to work and file papers, do some emails, faxing, and mailing.

I click on my internet and type in Google.com on the search bar. I type in 'pregnancy calculator' I hit enter.

Wow, so many websites came up. And I click on babycenter.com.

So, I punch in on the last day of my period.

October 4, 2014, I hit enter.

My due date is on or around July 14, 2015.

And I'm about four weeks and two days pregnant from my calculations. I look at the picture of what my baby looked like. I'm learning a lot from this one picture here.

I google pregnancy symptoms and I got them except for morning sickness, which I don't want at all.

I don't know if I want a doctor or a midwife to deliver my unborn baby.

But let's not get ahead of myself here. This is a lot to take in.

What am I going to do with Summer and Rachel and their family? Eventually, I will have to tell them about me being pregnant with Corey's baby, as they call him that. I don't want to ruin my family relationships with them, especially Rachel, who is my other half.

I need to talk to my mom about this and need her advice. I dial my mom's cell phone.

After four rings, she picks up.

"Hello, Tasha."

"Hi, mom I need to talk to you about something." I was trying not to sound nervous or scared.

"Okay, well, how about tonight at dinner? Just you and me? Your dad has a guy's night tonight, so let's say...... six o'clock?" That right, my dad has guy's night every Monday and Thursday is his guy's night as he always says it.

"Yeah, that sounds good, mom. I'll see you later."

"Okay, Tash. Bye."

"Bye, mom." We hung up at the same time. How am I going to tell my mom everything that happened to me in the last couple of weeks? Well, will see tonight.

********

So it was lunchtime and I'm still waiting for Bonnie to get here with my Big Mac meal with no pickles and extra bacon. Putting away my paperwork that was on my desk in their files. Once I was done putting the papers away, I shut my eyes for a few minutes.

I heard two knocks on my office door. That must be Bonnie at the door.

"Come in Bonnie." Once she heard my voice, she enters my office.

She came in a big bag of..... I'm guessing our McDonald's meals and a tray of our drinks. Bonnie puts down the bag and the tray with our drinks on my desk. She walks back towards the door and closes while I take out the drinks from the tray.

"Thanks, Bon," I said nicely to her.

"You're very welcome my dear and now let's talk business." Sits in the chair in front of my desk.

I take my Big Mac meal out of the bag and I pass the bag to her to take her meal out of there.

"So what's the verdict here Tasha?" She knows that I'm pregnant.

"Well, I took the test you bought me yesterday, and it came out ... positive Bon. I don't know what to do in my situation." I was nervous saying that I'm a pregnant part.

"Well Tasha, it's your decision if you plan on keeping it or not, but I won't judge you whatever decision you make. I'll be right behind you 110% of my full support."

"Thanks, Bon I really needed your support."

"Your welcome, my dear, and I suggest you tell your mom about this too Tash." She was right. I needed to tell my mom and have her full support.

"Yeah well ... I'm going to tell my mom about it tonight at dinner without my dad there though just us two ladies."

"That's good it will give you time to talk to her and ... are you going to tell her about you and C.J?"

"I'm not sure yet about the whole C.J thing, but I think I have to before I make my decision soon here."

"Let's just say if you decide to keep this baby, are you going to tell C.J? Tasha."

"Yeah, I'll tell him when I'm ready, too. How am I going to tell Summer and Rachel and their family about me being pregnant with C.J's baby Bon? I'm so scared to lose my friendship, my sister, and my family with them."

"All I know with a strong friendship like you and Rachel, she will not hate or walk out on you Tash ... she loves you like a sister. No matter how ugly it gets. She'll be there beside you no matter what situation you're in. You two ladies are born at the hip sometimes, maybe all the time and can't get enough of each other." I let out a few tears and wipe them right away.

Wow-what strong words she said to me.

"I needed that comfy speech, Bon. I don't know why I'm emotional right now."

"It all comes with the pregnancy my dear and more of it will come."

"Oh goody." I was trying to sound unhappy about the whole emotional threw out the entire pregnancy. I hope not. But will see you when I make my decision soon.

*******

After my wonderful lunch with Bonnie, she gave hope and encouragement for this day to talk to my mom. Telling her I'm pregnant and hoping for her full support for this. When I got home from work, I took a quick shower before going to my mom's.

Once I got out of the shower, I had one towel wrap around my head and the second one wrap around my body. Walking towards my room, my iPhone rang.

I quickly grab it from my dresser and it was Rachel.

I slide my thumb to talk.

"Hey, Rach wuz up?" Opening my top drawer to find a red cheeky and a black bra. Putting them on the bed.

"Hi, the ladies and I were thinking of going out this Saturday to the Tunnel again. So you in?"

Shit, I can't drink alcohol while I'm pregnant.

"Yeah, sure I'm in."

"Okay, well, I'll talk to you later. Love you."

"Okay love you too bye."

"Bye Tasha." Rachel hung up.

"How am I going to the them that I'm expecting," I mumble to myself.

I finish getting dress and had no makeup at all, which was fine by me. I wore a dark grey tank top and black shorts. It was five-thirty when I looked at my alarm clock.

I better get going. I quickly grab my iPhone, my purse, my house keys, and my car keys.

Got into my vehicle and back out. Turn on the radio and began driving to my mom's place. My mom lives on the other side of the city, which takes me about twenty minutes depending on the traffic.

I could see her house coming into view. I park right beside the sidewalk. My hands were getting sweaty because I was nervous and scared to tell my mom about the news.

I was standing in front of the door, and I knock twice. My mom opens the door.

"Tasha, you don't have to knock, this is your home too." She moves aside so I could walkthrough. I removed my black flip-flops by the front door.

"I know mom." I followed her to the kitchen. And it smells wonderful here. I miss my mother's home cooking.

"So what did you make for dinner?"

"I made your favorite chicken lasagna with homemade garlic bread and I grabbed a two-liter of Pepsi on my way home."

"Thanks, mom you just made my day."

"Your welcome Tash and dinner should be ready soon."

"Need any help, mom?"

"No, it's almost done, anyway. So, you sounded pretty tense this morning when you spoke to me on the phone. Is everything alright?"

"Well..... This is hard to say, mom."

"Just spit it out Tasha before it eats you up."

"Okay...-" My mom cut off from the sound of the oven timer going off.

"Just a sec, Hun." My mom turns her back to me so she can grab the chicken lasagna from the oven. Set the casserole dish on the stove.

"Now tell me what you're telling me."

I close my eyes and said, "I'm pregnant mom." I open my eyes right away and look at her.

Her eyes went wide and so did her mouth. She said nothing, and neither did I. She just stared at me.

"I'm going to be a grandma. I've been waiting for this day to happen. I can't believe it I'm going to be a grandma." My mom hugs me tight, and I hug her back, too.

"Wow, I thought I was going to have a different reaction from you." I let go of her and look into my mom's eyes, that were a little teary.

"Why? What thoughts came into your head?"

"I don't know, like disappointment, disgrace, a single parent, a wh-"

"Don't you dare finish that word? Tasha, you are not of those words or thoughts into that head of yours. You have my full support, whether you are single. I'll help you every step of the way there. Congrats my baby girl."

"Thanks, mom please don't say nothing yet to dad or my nosy brothers until I make my decision first."

"Whatever decision you decide, no matter what, you'll have my full support, Tasha. Did you get pregnant during a one-night stand?" Way to say that, mom!

"Mom please... my situation is not looking good at all and it's a ticking bomb waiting to happen." Just wait until I tell C.J whenever that will be and Rachel and Summer and their family.

"Tasha, before I met your dad, I had a couple of one-night stands and believe me there were okay, but your dad made my world wild."

I was shaking my head, trying to get all the images out of my head. "Mom, please stop with the dirty talk." I could handle Bonnie dirty talking, but not with my mom is just gross.

"Oh right, sorry. How far along are you?"

"It's okay. I'm about four weeks and two days."

During the entire dinner, my mom kept talking about me being pregnant and going baby shopping and a baby shower. Oh my god, my mom thinks she's pregnant, not me. She can't wait for my belly to get bigger each month.

Which means I will have to make appointments in the next couple of weeks.

C.J

After I drop off Tasha's coffee off at her workplace. I decided to go home and keep my mind busy for the day. Packing my duffle bag for four days because I start my shift tomorrow. I do four days.

The next morning, before I started my shift, Summer made me an early morning breakfast. She made homemade hash browns, toast, bacon, and over-easy eggs.

"Summer, I've been thinking about having a family with you soon." I've been wanting to start a family with Summer. As soon as I said that, Summer stared at him.

"Corey, we can't I just got on birth control and I'm twenty-six and still young. I want to wait for like at least five years. I just want to be baby-free."

"I thought we discussed this over the Summer to start after we married."

"I thought about but I don't want to be pregnant right now. I don't want to ruin my body with stretch marks and gain weight. I thought about doing a surrogate mother for us, so I don't lose my figure."

"I don't care if have stretch marks or gain weight I will still love you. I don't want to use a surrogate mother for our baby."

"Well, it's my choice I'm the one who will have to carry it for nine fucking months, Corey."

"No surrogate for us I want my wife to carry our child, not some woman. I want to hold your hand while you're bringing our child into this world."

"I still want a surrogate Corey."

"You know what I'm done having this conversation." I barely ate the food that was on my plate. I got up from my seat and walk towards the door.

"Well, if you want a baby so bad, Corey, just go find somebody else who will give a child." Raising her voice from the kitchen.

"Maybe I will then." I raised my voice back at her. I picked up my duffle bag and slam the door shut. Well, might as well go to Starbucks for breakfast. It's on my way to work. It's not Starbucks that's close to Tasha's work.

I hated when Summer changes her mind about everything. Like we talked about starting a family together before or after our wedding, but she hurt me big time. She's not the Summer I've met before but now she seems different since I moved here. I had my doubts that she's cheating on me but will see if she admits to doing so. I mean, I cheated on her with her sister's best friend, Tasha. If she cheated on me. I would say now we're even.

I quickly went into Starbucks and order my breakfast and a coffee to go. Once I got into my truck place my hot coffee in the cup holder and placed my breakfast on the seat. I grab my iPhone from the side duffle pockets to check to see if Summer called or texted me.

But I got nothing from her.

I mean, we both needed space from each other.

When I got to the Fire station, I parked my truck in the parking lot. I still got twenty minutes to finish my breakfast from Starbucks. I turn on the radio and listen to whatever music they have on. I took my time eating and drinking my coffee.

Once I was done eating, I grabbed my garbage and stuffed it into my duffle bag. Glad I had everything with me because I don't want to go home and see Summer right now.

I got out of the driver's side and walked over to the passenger door to grab my duffle bag with my coffee in the other hand. I sat my duffle bag on the ground and pressed the button on the truck key so it will beep twice.

I grab my duffle bag and made my way to the Fire Station. I opened the door. I could see Samuel and Jim coming down the stairs. Since I came to work here with these two, we became friends pretty fast and easy to talk too... I guess.

"Hey, Corey. How's it going?" Samuel asks me.

"Not too bad I guess."

"It seems like you had a terrible morning already," Jim asked me another question as well.

"I'll talk about it later, guys. Okay. Well, I guess I'll see you later. I got to go unpack and get settled in first." I respond to Jim. They both nodded at me.

"Well, you know where to find us, Corey," Samuel said to me. I know where he's talking about.

"Yeah okay."

"See ya," Jim says as he and Samuel went downstairs.

As I walk up the stairs to the second floor. I opened the door and I said hi to the other guys who were doing this shift also. I noticed some of them were leaving as they finish packing their bags. The guys that worked the last four days. I mean we stay here 24/7.

So I went into my room that I share with Tim who was the same age as me but a little taller than me. He's fun to hang out with too when I'm here. I put my duffle bag on my bed and began packing and putting my clothes into the dresser.

On the second floor, we have five bedrooms with two single beds in them so that ten guys altogether. We also have a training room, a nice big kitchen, a big pantry for us men because we the energy, a living room, an office for our chief, three whole bathrooms, and baloney. On the lower level, we have our two fire trucks, a truck, a mechanics room, a storage room, and we have a little backyard but that's pretty much it.

When I found Samuel and Jim in the back at the picnic tables. I sat beside Samuel.

"Okay, are you ready to tell us," Jim asked me?

"Yes, but this has to stay between us and I'm trusting you guys," I said to both of them.

"I cross my heart to never tell a soul," Samuel said as he marks an X shape over his heart.

"Whatever we talk, it stays here," Jim said.

So I told about the event that happened this morning between me and Summer. The whole surrogate thing keeps getting to me and tells them I wanted a family soon. They both understood me because they have young kids of their own and they're a little older than me. I want a family so badly that I'm really having a baby fever here.

Yeah, that's right, me, a guy is having a baby fever!
