Tasha

Hearing the sounds of beeping in the room. Feeling something in my nose. Beneath me is a soft bed and blankets to cover me.

Slowly opened my eyes and moving my head to the side to see my two boys sound asleep in a chair beside me. What a sight to see. A beautiful sight. Our son sleeping soundly on his daddy's chest.

I didn't know how long I've stared at them. Until hearing his cries. Waking his daddy up.

C.J opened his eyes and look at me.

"Finally awake. I almost lost you again for the third time." Whispering at me. The look on his face says that he was surprised.

"How long was I out?" Asking him.

"About a day. Your body needed it."

A day? A whole day I was sleeping. It shocked me to hear that.

"What time is it?" I said to C.J and he check his watch.

"It's 7:06. I'll go get a doctor." He said to me. Getting up slowly from the chair.

He slowly passes me our son in my arms. Kissing me on the forehead and then my lips. Left the room to get a doctor since I'm awake.

"Hey, little guy. I'm your mommy. I love you." Whispering to him. Kissing his forehead, his tiny nose, and his tiny lips. I finally have him after nine months in my tummy.

I moved his hat a little. Oh wow. He had a full head of dark hair. I wonder what colour of eyes he has. Mine? Or C.J's?

"Good morning. I'm Dr. Chan. I've been monitoring you. You are a lucky woman to be alive. How are you feeling?" Holding a chart in his hands. A nurse came behind us, probably a maternity nurse.

"I'm still tired, hungry, and thirsty." My throat was a little dry from the lack of water.

"Okay, I'll order a light breakfast for you and I'll get the nurse to bring you water. Are you feeling any discomfort in your vagina area?" Once he said that, the nurse that was with him left the room, probably to get me some water.

"Not at the moment.... what happened after I was out?" I ask him.

"You had what they called hemorrhage, which is where your uterus wouldn't contract after the placenta is delivered and heavy bleeding. You were one lucky lady, Ms. Ford. After you arrive, we gave you a blood transfusion to help with the blood loss and lots of fluids to keep you hydrated. Questions?" He asks me.

"Not at the moment?" Nodded my head.

"Okay. I'll get a nurse in here in the next hour to help you. Have a good day and I'll check up on you later before my shift is over."

"Okay, thank you." He left the room.

The nurse came with a jug of water and a cup with a straw.

"Here's your water Tasha and I'll be back in the next hour helping you and breakfast should be up by then."

"Okay. Thanks for the water."

"You're welcome." She left the room as well.

"How much does he weigh?" Asking C.J.

He got from his seat, went to the little crib, and he grabbed a piece of paper. Passing it to me and sitting beside me with his arm around me.

The blue rectangle shape card had his information in it. He weighed seven pounds and six ounces. He was twenty-two inches long. 13:15 was the time he was born. July 4 was the day he came into the world. The only empty thing was his name.

"What should we name him?" Asking C.J.

"Luke. It's been stuck with me since I only found out that we were having a boy. I'm not sure the middle name yet." He spoke. I forgot he was the only one who knew the gender of our baby.

"Luke it is. I love that name." Smiling at his name.

My little Luke.

My little boy.

"How about Luke Zachary Williamson," I say to C.J

"That sounds amazing, Tash. I also thought Luke Skywalker Williamson."

"No to the second one." I know he was joking but I'm not naming our son after a Stars Wars character. There's no way.

"I'm just putting it out there. If you change your mind, it's on the table to take." Chuckles at me.

"How's the diaper changing going?" I missed his first diaper changing.

"It's good so far, but then he peeps like a fire hose. Also, he almost peed on me."

"No poopy ones yet?" I'm not sure how he does with the poop ones yet.

"He did a little, but it was dark. I almost gag." Laughing at him.

We talk and took pictures together. Luke woke up. Hearing his little cries. He opened his eyes. It was love at first sight. Looking into his dark blue eyes. He has his daddy's eyes.

"He has your eyes." Whispering to C.J.

"I noticed that when we came to the hospital. His eyes were wide open. He's going to be one good-looking boy, just like his daddy." He said, and I nodded.

"Did any come and visit him?"

"No, there were waiting until you woke up. But I haven't talked to anyone yet since you woke up."

"I want to wait for at least a few more hours until we came to that call."

I want to spend time together with the three of us.

"Yeah, take your time. There's no rush."

The nurse came in and introduced herself. Her name was Alice. She helps me how to breastfeed, giving me tips and we tried a few times and then he latches on. The feeling was worried me. I'm sure every new mom has this feeling.

"When you are done feeding him and your breakfast. I want you to walk around the room to get the blood flowing through your legs. And I'll have to get the catheter remove before you go walking." Alice explained to me. I looked at the IV stand and there it was. A yellow bag was sitting at the bottom above the wheels.

A catheter.

A pee bag.

"Okay. Well, thanks for helping me."

"Oh, you're very welcome. There's a button on the side of your bed. Just press it and we will remove it."

"How about the IV?" I'm not a fan of IVs. I wanted it off now.

"I will have to talk to Dr. Chan about that and get back to you. I'll bring in your tray of breakfast for you." She left the room to get me my breakfast tray.

Luke was still sucking my breast. Touching his soft hair and his tiny hairy ears.

Once my milk comes in. My boobs will look like I've got implants from what I was told. Well, will see what they look like.

Alice came over and put the breakfast tray on the tray table. I said thank you.

Once he stops sucking. I placed him gently on my shoulder and patted his back. Until he made a sound of a burp. Awe, it sounded so cute.

"C.J did you want to grab Luke so I could eat?"

"Yeah sure." He came, and I passed Luke to him. I move the breastfeeding pillow to my feet.

C.J pulled the tray table in front of me. Lifting the cover off of the tray. It was cream of wheat with brown sugar packages on the side. A cup of milk and another that's looks like tea. Spoon and a butter knife. Two pieces of toast. Plus, jam and peanut butter packages.

Today I will need a shower. I feel gross.

C.J

Holding my son in my arms. So light that I could crush him. The first time I held him, it scared me to drop him. But I had to man up.

Luke was the name I had in my head since I found out that we were having a boy. I wanted his middle name to Skywalker, but nope. She didn't like that at all. Maybe if we get a dog and I'll call him Skywalker.

"Is my bag of stuff here?" She asks me. A week ago, she packs her clothes, shampoo, conditioner, her girly stuff, and baby clothes too.

"Yeah, my mom brought it last night. Planning to have a shower soon?" Gently patting his tiny back.

"Yeah, I feel gross."

"Well, you just had a baby, Tasha. It's normal to feel that way. Do you need some help?" Trying to put a smile on her face, and it did.

"Yeah, I might as well. But who's going to watch Luke?"

"I can call my mom? or your mom? or both? Whichever you want."

"Did everybody meet him yet?"

"Just our families. Not friends yet. Rachel's going to plan a welcome barbecue for our son. When we leave the hospital. I'll give our mom's a call to see if they can come and watch him."

I text my mom and mother-in-law to come and visit while Tasha takes a shower and needs help. I got replies quickly.

"They're on their way."

"Did you eat breakfast yet?"

"Yeah, before you woke up."

After she ate breakfast, she presses the button for the nurses to come and take her catheter out. The nurses came in. Closed the curtain and asked her a few questions.

Luke was still sleeping in my chest.

Five minutes later. The nurses left with some stuff and went out the door. A few seconds later, our moms came. Each gave Tasha a hug and a kiss.

I see that she still has an IV in.

"You ready to go?"

"Yeah." I could tell she wanted to get out of the bed and walk around.

"Mom, you want to hold him?"

"Sure honey." I got up from my seat, my mom sat in the chair that I was sitting in and gently moved Luke into her arms.

Walking on her left side where the IV was in. Unplugging it. She grabs my arm and slowly sitting up.

Her hair was messy, but she was still beautiful.

"Take it slow, I got you."

"Mom, you want to grab my bag that's in the closet?" Tasha asks her mom.

"Of course." She quickly went to the closet and grab her bag, which was a small suitcase. Puts it right beside it and pulls up the handle for it.

"Ready to stand up," I said, and she nodded her head.

Tasha slowly got up from her bed. Her legs were a little wobbly. She held a tight grip on me. Tasha let go of her one hand. I grab the handle from her suitcase.

Walking down the hall to where the enormous bathroom was. Closed the door behind us and lock it. Tasha was wheeling her IV stand. Standing by the shower curtain.

"Do you want me to unzip it for you? Or do you want to do it yourself?"

"No, I'll do it. Just put it on the counter by the sink."

"Okay." Grabbing the suitcase and putting it on the counter. Walking towards me.

She opens it. She pulls out small bottles of shampoo and conditioner and body wash. Pulls out some pajama bottoms, panties, socks, and a breastfeeding bra.

And it's red.

She knows who much I love it when she wears red lingerie. Especially lace or silk. My weakness for it.

"Tease." Smirking at her and she knows what I mean.

After helping Tasha washing her hair and then her body because she still has the IV attached to her hand. Yes, I was naked. Since I didn't bring extra clothes with me. Sharing a few kisses here and there. I told her that I was going to dry off first and then get dressed before she was done.

Shutting the water off. I handle her a small towel for her hair. I grab a big one to dry her body. Tasha dried off her body with no help. Wrapping the surrounding towel.

"Oh god." Tasha sounded shocked.

"What?" She had that surprised look on her face.

"I felt a gush come out and I'm embarrassed about it."

"Tasha, there's nothing to be embarrassed about it. You, my wifey, just had a baby. You are going to be bleeding for a while. I'll clean you up." I added if what I was saying to her. But true, women bleed at least six weeks after giving birth.

Grabbing a lot of paper towels and then a wet washcloth. Wiping down her legs and feet. Since Tasha was close to her open suitcase, she grabs a pair of panties and a pad. Tasha mumble thanks to me.

Helping Tasha pull up her panties as she was done putting on a big pad. Which I didn't care, and it didn't bother me. It did not gross me out about it. I mean, it's natural.

After we got her pj's bottoms on, we noticed that her IV and stand are in the way.

Well, so much for that idea. I grab a clean maternity hospital gown. Unbuttoning it, covering her, and buttoning it all up. Which was easy.

"I want this off?" Waving her IV hand at me.

"You will. You just have to wait longer." Kissing her head and giving her a side hug.

"I'll put your socks on in the room." The floor is wet and I don't want her socks getting wet.

Gathering her stuff and putting it all back in Tasha's suitcase. Leaving the bathroom and walking towards Tasha's room where she was staying.

Holding each other's hands. Hearing our mom's talk and laugh as we got closer. Walking through the door, my mom was still holding Luke.

Letting go of her hand and putting her suitcase near her closet just in case she needs it. Tasha sits on her bed. Putting the socks on her cold feet.

Now since there here. I'm going to go home, shower, get dress and maybe bring some food.

"Tasha, I'm going home to freshen up and maybe grab something. Want anything from Timmies?"

"Just a medium green tea with two sugars. Please."

"Okay. See you in a bit." Kissing her lips and then walking over to my son and kissing his forehead.

Saying goodbye as I left the room. Walking out of the hospital and into my truck. Driving to my house. My dad, dad-in-law, my brother, and brother-in-law's help me finished Luke's nursery. Had a lot of help because it was half done. I kind of change it a bit. Did a Star Wars theme? Painted the black with different sizes of stars and Luke's name above his crib. After looking for weeks, I finally found some Star Wars wall stickers. It relieved me. No more looking.

The ladies weren't allowed in the room, which includes our mom's. Which was hard because they were using the mom tone. I can't for Tasha to see it. The look on her face will be surprising.

Stripping off my clothes and turning on the shower. Washing myself off. After about fifteen minutes later, I shut off the shower. Drying myself off. Hearing my phone beep. Opening the bathroom door to our room. I see that it was Tasha.

Tasha: The doctor said that I could come home tomorrow and I'm excited. He also gave me a prescription for my low iron. My mom just went to get it. I'm excited about going home and sleep in my bed.

C.J: Wow! I'm excited to have you two home. I'll be there in an hour. Love you.

Tasha: love you too.

She's coming home tomorrow with our son.
