C.J

A month passed by. Tasha's bump is getting huge. Like really growing each day. Seeing the baby move underneath her skin was just amazing. Strong kicks.

My right arm is all healed up. Only a little scarring, but not that bad. I took it easy when I went back to work for the first week. I stayed behind while they were called. Then the second week I went with them. Getting the feel of it again.

Me, Rachel, Tasha's mom, and her friends are planning a surprise baby shower at her mom's house. So that's in two weeks. My parents, my sister and my brother are going to be here as well.

We still haven't received a wish list yet from Tasha. Well, Rachel has been bugging her about it. But every time she asks Tasha. It seems like she always forgets.

Pregnancy brain, always forgetful.

"Babe, do you know where my wallet is?" I ask her while she was having a bath. She's been having a lot of baths these few weeks. I guess it soothes her aching back and body.

"Check in the kitchen by the microwave. I saw it there last night." I remember coming in last night from and a friend's house and emptying my pockets by the microwave before going to bed. She was in the kitchen eating a late snack when I came home.

"Okay, I'll check there." Leaving the bathroom and going downstairs to the kitchen. I look where the microwave was and my wallet was there.

I grab my wallet and put it in my back pocket. Went back upstairs to say goodbye to Tasha. Going to start my four-day rotation. Since it's getting closer to her due date. I've been texting her constantly throughout the day when I'm not with her. Just to make sure she's safe and the baby as well.

I'm just worried about those two.

The father is coming out of me.

"Okay, babe. I'm heading out." Going on my knees so I'm leveled with her.

"Alright. Have a good four-day shift. Love you." Giving her a couple of kisses.

"Love you too. Call me if anything happens." She knows that I'm worried about her, but she says she's fine.

"I will. Go before I won't let you left." Tasha said, giving me a warning. I got up, and I was standing by the door.

"Bye, Tash. I'll call you later on."

"Bye. Now go." Shooing me away with her hand.

Getting my duffle bag and locking the door on my way out. Driving my way to work was not that busy, especially on a Saturday morning. But before I started my shift. First, stop at Timmies.

After ordering my usual coffee and sometimes a bagel. But this time I got a cinnamon bagel. Arriving at the station. I'm still in my truck in the parking lot, eating my bagel and drinking my coffee.

Ten minutes before my shift starts. I see my co-workers and friends start to arrive or are there already here. Walking in the huge garage where the fire truck is parking. With my duffle bag hanging off of my shoulder.

I see Ellie standing at the top of the stairs. She's been like that since I've been back at work. Like friendly and I'm not too comfortable with it.

"Good morning, Corey," Ellie says with a smile on her face.

"Good morning." Making me stop in front of her. She was spacing out as always.

"Excuse me, Ellie." I could tell that she was trying to stick out her chest towards my face.

Not happening, bitch.

"Sorry, Corey." Moving to the side and letting me walk by her. I can hear her following me to my room. Dropping my bag on my bed.

"Why do you keep following me around like a lost puppy." I finally ask her.

"I just like seeing you at work and hanging out with you." I could tell that she wanted to say more, but she didn't.

"Well, we need to set boundaries between us. You can't keep following me all the time. You can't come to my room alone because I'm not liking it. You need to respect me and my space." I wanted to say more things to her so she can understand but I just left it at that.

"Fine Corey." She walks out of the room. She looked pissed, but I don't give a damn.

She needs to learn her place and I put her there. Maybe it was a mistake to become friends with her.

Maybe I start treating her like a co-worker instead of a friend. I don't want people getting the wrong idea between me and her. Thinking I'm cheating on my wife. I'm not that kinda guy.

I called Tasha to see how she was doing so far. She's doing good but tired and has an achy back. Tasha and her friends are going shopping and having dinner. I told her not to overdo it, but you know her. She's stubborn as hell.

She always gets her way.

Sometimes.

Just before taking a shower. I called her.

"Hello?" She answered after one ring.

"Hey, how were your shopping and dinner?"

"It was good, but my feet are sore and a bit swollen. Dinner was so good that I almost went for seconds but I stop myself before I got sick again." I guess she learns her lesson the first time.

A few days before I started my shifts. I took her out for dinner and we had a great time. She finished her first plate of food, then went and ask for seconds. She did, but after that she got sick. Like you know when you eat too much and you feel nauseous? Yeah, Tasha got nauseous badly that she spent most of her time by the toilet because she felt like she needed to throw up. But gladly she didn't.

"Well, I'm glad you had fun. I'll let you have some rest." I can tell that she sounded tired on the phone.

"Okay. Good night C.J." Yawning was talking to me. Now she's making me yawn too.

"Make sure you call if anything happens to you. Good night, Tash, love you."

"I'll call you if anything happens. Love you too C.J. Bye."

"Bye." We both hung up. Putting my iPhone down.

I grab extra clothes, towels, and my bag filled with my bathroom stuff. Walking in the men's locker room. Putting my clothes on the bench. Hanging the towel by the curtain. Taking my body wash and shampoo with me. Turning on the tabs.

In the middle of washing my body. I heard the door open. It must be one of the guys. The footsteps kept coming closer and closer. Stopping in front of the shower curtain. I heard something drop.

I was about to say something when the curtain open. Leaving me naked and a view to see.

Standing in front of me.

Was.

Ellie.

Naked.

I pulled the curtain closed. Now I was fucking pissed.

"What the hell are you doing here Ellie?" I raised my voice at her. I turn off the water.

"Why? Can it be our little secret, Corey?" Her voice was trying to sound cute.

I grab the towel and wrap it around my waist. Open the curtain and Ellie was there, naked. I grab her a towel and gave it to her. I went and grab my stuff quickly.

"You know the rules, Ellie. No females in the men's locker room. Now please go." I'm going to have a word with the chief. This is going too far. Way too far.

"It's just breaking a few rules. Come on Corey. Just this once be with me for one night." She's trying to get me to cheat on Tasha, but that not fucking happening at all.

"Well, sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not that type that does that, Ellie. Have some self-respect for yourself. Maybe being friends with you was a mistake." I left her in the men's locker all alone.

No respect for yourself or your body.

I quickly got dressed and walk towards the chief's office. He was doing paperwork. I told him that I needed to talk to him in private. Telling him everything that happened in the men's locker room about Ellie coming in their naked. Let's just say that he was very disappointed and unprofessional of her. And will discuss it right away. I wrote a statement down about the situation and I left after that.

I stayed in my room the whole night.

Should I tell Tasha about this? Or just leave it?

The next morning. The chief suspended Ellie without pay for two weeks, apology letter for her actions, and be on different shifts, so we're not working together anymore. Which is the best idea.

Well, I hope she learned her lesson. Don't hit on a man when he's already taken.

The days went by faster, and today was my last shift. Tomorrow at seven in the morning, I'll be out of here.

In the middle of doing a drill. Chief came up to me and told me that there was a phone call to me. The face on him looked worried.

I rush to the phone.

"Hello, this is Corey."

"Tasha's in the hospital, Corey." Rachel's sob a little. My heart sank when she said that.

"I'm on my way." I hung up the phone.

"Go to her." My chief said to me.

I rush into my room to grab my wallet and truck keys. Driving fast to the hospital and I drove through a few lights.

So many thoughts going on in my head. Will she be okay? Is she still alive? Is the baby, okay?

I think to think of the positive things but a bit of the negative things too.

The closest parking spot was across the street. I didn't care if I was in my uniform. I rushed through the door and straight to the front desk.

I see Rachel standing there waiting for me. She grabs my hand and ran to the elevators. She pressed five. We didn't say anything to each other.

I just wanted to see my girl.

To see if she was okay and our baby as well.

Rachel leads me into a private room. Hearing all the machines again brought back memories. She looked pale. She was sleeping.

"What happened Rach?" I wanted to know every detail of what happened to her.

"I brought lunch for us, we talk, then she collapsed on the floor. Lucky, I caught her in time. Then I noticed that her hands, feet, and a little of her face swelled. I call the ambulance and then called you." She was very calm about telling me. Fuck when Tasha told me that her feet were a bit swollen a few days ago. That should've been a warning bell for me.

The doctor came in with a clipboard.

"How is she, doctor?"

"Her blood pressure was high when she arrived in and we gave her medicine to help bring that down. But she's not out of the woods yet. She will have to stay in here for a few days, so I can observant her condition."

"What will happen if her blood pressure keeps going up?" Not liking my question.

"If it keeps going up. She will have to have an emergency c-section. Plus, she's showing early signs of preeclampsia." The doctor said to me. Fuck. Our baby better stay in and keep cooking.

"But don't worry. I won't make sure that never happens. I'll check on her in an hour. Since her doctor is away for a week. I'm taking her care of her patients. I'm Dr. Wayne." I shook his hand.

"I'm Corey Williamson." He turned around and left the room.

"Did you call her parents?" I ask Rachel.

"Yeah, their way here." She nodded her head.

I took a seat beside her and grab her hand in mine. Listening to the heartbeat of our baby.

Tasha had an oxygen mask on. She had wires and an IV on her. Her parents came ten minutes later. I told them what the doctor said to me. We grab more chairs. Now my mom will be on the next flight over here.

Now we wait for Tasha to wake up
