With everything going on, I couldn't believe Halloween was already here. In a few months, Christmas would be here. It was insane how fast this year was flying.

There was a Halloween party going on, and we all got costumes. I wanted something fun and cute. Nash wanted something sexy, boys.

We looked through the racks until each of us found a costume. Nash and I went as Bonnie and Clyde. As we finished paying for our costumes, my stomach started growling.

"I need food," I said to him as he chuckled.

"Come on, I think there is a bakery here," he said, taking my hand.

The four of us walked over to the bakery, and I looked at the sign that read Kate's Bakery.

We all looked around. As I looked at the pastries, my mouth watered.

"Can I help you?" A guy asked, wiping the counter.

"Yeah, we would like four muffins and four coffees," Nash answered.

"What kind?" He asked us.

"What kind do you have," Nixon asked him.

"Apple, chocolate chip, blueberry, double chocolate," he rambled off.

We all looked at each other, "Blueberry," Nixon said.

"Okay, but there are only two, so which others?"

"Chocolate chip," I added.

"Okay," he shrugged and took the muffins out, then got us our coffee. Then I noticed another guy walk in. Damn, he was hot.

"You about ready?" The guy with a husky voice asked him.

"Yeah, but I can't leave until they do," he grumbled.

"Excuse me," Nixon said to them. "The last time I checked, this was a bakery, and we were customers."

"Well, the last time I checked, I have a life," he shot back.

"You mean you and lover boy there," he said, pointing at him.

"What? No! I am not gay!"

"Uh-huh, sure, you aren't. You're probably waiting to get out of here and go on some hot date," Nixon smirked.

They both looked at him, and one guy spoke in a husky voice. "Listen, pal, I don't know where you're from, but I would suggest shutting up."

"Yeah, right, pft you don't scare me," Nixon said. Great Nixon would get us killed. The guy glared at him. The three of us took a step back.

"Ignore him, Ryan, he's a twat," the guy said.

Ryan looked at the guy. "Frazier, you are by far the biggest idiot ever."

"Says you," the guy replied with a face.

Nixon looked at them. "No offense, but you both are tools. Now can we have our damn food?"

"Gladly," Frazier huffed and pushed it towards him.

We grabbed our stuff, and Nash paid for it. He looked at them.

"What?" Frazier asked him.

"Nothing," Nash answered. With that, we left. Nash looked at Nixon. "Why must you always start shit wherever you go?"

"Why must there be tools everywhere I go? One of life's mysteries," he shrugged.

I turned and looked at the two guys in the bakery. Okay, note to self, do not go back to that bakery.

After our little episode at the bakery, we hung out at the house and waited to get ready for the party-Marco burst in, all happy.

"I have a date!" He shouted.

We just looked at him.

"Didn't you guys hear me?"

"I think the whole flipping neighborhood heard you," Nixon grumbled.

"Hey, I'm allowed to be excited," he grinned.

"That's great, Marco," Jasper said to him. I looked at Jasper. He didn't seem thrilled for Marco. I wonder why? He got up and walked upstairs as Kat started talking to him about it.

I got up and went upstairs to Jasper's room, then knocked on his door.

"Jasper? Are you okay?"

I opened the door to see him standing to look out of his window. I walked inside and over to him.

"Jasper?"

He let out a deep sigh.

"What's wrong?"

He turned around. "Nothing," he answered.

"It doesn't seem like nothing."

He walked past me and sat down on his bed. I stood there looking at him.

"You ever like someone, and they never see you, they just see everyone else?"

"Yep," I answered as I walked over and took a seat next to him. "I know exactly how you feel. I had a crush on a guy, and it turned out he didn't live up to my ideal."

"Is it that guy that humiliated you at homecoming?" He looked at me.

"Yeah," I sighed. "I had these ideas about Bryson, and he ended up making me feel like a fool." I hated talking about Bryson.

"But it turned out because you ended up with Nash, right?"

"Well, at first, it was bumpy between us. I was so enamored with Bryson that I couldn't see how Nash felt about me. Plus, having never dated, I was so unsure of myself and him, but he turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me," I explained.

"He seems like he loves you," Jasper said.

"He does, and I love him," I smiled. "Now, we're not talking about me. We are talking about you. You like Marco, don't you?"

"Does it matter?" He gave me a look which I knew all too well.

"Yes, it does," I assured him.

"No, it doesn't." He looked at me. "You heard what he said about me. He's not attracted to me and doesn't see me that way. Marco has never looked at me the way Nash looks at you." I looked at him, and I could hear the hurt in his voice. I put my arm around him and comforted him. I felt terrible for Jasper. I know what it's like to like someone and not have them reciprocate your feelings.

We all got ready to go to the party. There was a knock at the door, and I opened it to a guy in a costume.

"Uh, hi, is Marco here?"

"Who are you," I asked.

"Trey, I'm Marco's date," he said nervously. I looked at him. Something was off about him. I know most dates are nervous, but this was a different nervousness.

"Yeah, he'll be down in a minute."

Nash came downstairs and walked over to us. "Who are you?"

"This is Trey. Marco's date," I said to him, and he looked at the dude who was shifting nervously.

"Huh, okay," Nash commented with a knowing look.

Then one by one, each of them came down, "Whose this tool?" Nixon questioned the guy standing at the doorway.

"Marco's date," Nash said to Nixon, looking at him.

"Uh-huh," Nixon commented, knowing this was complete bullshit.

One by one, Marco introduced him to everyone, and their reactions were the same. We weren't buying it, especially Jasper. After Marco and Trey left, Jasper looked at me. "Remember that guy you were telling me about earlier? I think his name was Bryson or something?"

"Yeah?" I looked at him, not liking where this was going.

"Maggie, that's Marco's Bryson," he told us. I looked at Nash, Nixon, and Kat, and they looked at me. That would not end well if we didn't stop it.

We went to the party and when we got there, people dressed in costumes. We all agreed to keep an eye out for Marco. I couldn't let him go through what I went through.

I found him with some guys next to a punch bowl. I stood there and watched. Now, most dates are affectionate and try to hold your hand or stand close to you, but Trey didn't.

Then I saw a girl walk over, holding a cup of punch. God, this was like homecoming all over again. Marco didn't see her, but I did. I watched her raise the glass and walked over to them. She stopped midway.

"Hey Marco," I said cheerily.

"Oh, hey Maggie, I was just talking with Trey and a few of his friends," he smiled.

"I see that," I smiled, and they looked at me. Then I turned to the girl behind Marco. "So, who might you be?" Marco turned around and looked at her quizzically.

"Oh, uh, I'm a friend of Trey," she stammered.

"Oh? Not that you're his girlfriend or anything?"

"What? Pft, no," she denied.

"That's cute that you can lie so well," I snapped.

Marco looked at me. "Maggie, what's going on?" He looked confused.

I took a deep breath and said, "Marco, Trey didn't ask you out because he liked you. He asked you out to humiliate you. That's his girlfriend," I pointed at her. "The same thing happened to me at homecoming last year."

"What? But I don't understand." He looked at Trey. "You said you liked me and that you just now realized how much. Why would you lie to me?"

Trey shifted in his spot.

"I don't understand. Why would you do this?" He turned and looked at me. "Why would they do this, Maggie? I don't understand. What did I do wrong?"

I looked at him. "You liked the wrong guy."

Marco felt crestfallen. I couldn't blame him. When you realize your crush has feet made of clay, it changes your whole perspective on things.

Nash found us, "What's going on?"

"It seems Trey's girlfriend," I pointed at the girl, "would dump punch on Marco while the others would laugh. Sound familiar?"

Nash looked at them. "Yeah, it does." He walked over to them. "That's low and shitty to do that to someone. What the hell is wrong with you people? Is it so bad for someone to be who they are that you have to humiliate them beyond belief?"

"Dude, the guy is queer," Trey announced.

"Yeah, so?"

"That isn't right."

"Says who? That's the problem here; there's no tolerance. The kid only wanted to like, and you all have treated him like he has the plague," Nash said, getting the attention of everyone at the party.

Nixon and Jace walked over as did everyone else.

"So, what, you're defending him? Are you guys queer lovers too?" Trey scoffed.

"No, try decent human beings," Jace said.

"You don't have to be gay to have compassion for someone," Nixon told him.

"And who the hell are you guys?" another guy asked.

"We're the Gray family, and if you don't know who we are, you will," Nixon snapped.

I looked at Marco. "Why don't we go home?"

He nodded, and I wrapped my arm around him. People were so cruel, and they played on the fact Marco didn't understand, which was even worse.

Of all we left and back to the house. To cheer Marco up, we all changed and watched horror films. I cuddle up to Nash as Kat cuddle up next to Nixon. I watched as Jasper sat next to Marco, enthralled in the movie to notice.

I felt terrible for Jasper; he did care for my brother, but my brother was too oblivious to notice. Guess that's a family trait we both have.

Maybe they just need a little push.
