Chapter 14: I just know that they involve pain

Tristan's POV

"Hailey!" He greets her with that nothing but cheerful voice that always gets on my nerves. That man is f*cking a**hole. "And I see you've brought my friend as well."

"I'm not your friend!" I growl. I clench my fists on both sides of his body and I bet my knuckles are already whites as always.

Henry is nothing but my friend. I hate him with my entire life and seeing him again replays all the bad memories that took me two years to forget.

I tried so hard to cut my ties with this pathetic excuse of a man before anyone I loved got hurt, but unfortunately, I was too late.

He had already captured her. Tormented her. And I was too late to even stop him. Thinking about it brings back all the tears that I've tried to conceal, but I can't let her do the same to Hailey or anyone.

I was suprised at first when I found out that Hailey is involved with Henry's illegal fighting scheme, and I wanted to do nothing but to kill that a**hole. He had dragged an innocent girl into this scheme of his and uses her for his own evil desires.

"Can we hurry this up, I'm bored," Hailey's voice pulls me out of my train of thoughts. She has a bored expression on her adorable face and she isn't fazed about Henry.

"You better watch your tongue," Henry warns her.  I can decern she isn't the slightest bothered about Henry's growling and I help but be amused. She's really tough, considering what kind of man Henry is.

"Look, I just want to get out of here."

"I see you've learnt to talk," irritation is evident in his voice.

"I always knew how to ta--"

I interrupt their argument. "Can you hurry up and tell me why you called us." I say to Henry, but I'm still amused at Hailey's bravery.

"Technically, I called Hailey. You're just always following her," Henry states.

"I'm just protecting her from the sick bastard--"

"The point is..." his eyes make their to Hailey's, as he cuts me off. "You're fighting tonight."

"What?!" Hailey asks abruptly. "That fight isn't until next week." She argues.

"You have no choice. And you know what happens if you don't!" He slams his palms against the desk and stands up, violently pushes his chair back.

"She will fight," I interject. If he wants a fight, he'll get a fight.

"What?! I'm not ready," she turns to me and gives me and incredulous look that says what-the-hell?

"I'll help you." I say. I can help her train and give her a few pointers to improve her fighting skills. Even though I haven't seen her moves, except when she pinned me against the locker, I bet she'll still need the extra training.

"Good, it's settled then." Henry grins maliciously and I wish I could punch that grin right off his face.

.......

"Are you crazy?!" Hailey yells at me. Her voice is surprisingly not squeaky like the other girls that always throw themselves at me.

"And now you're avoiding me?!" Her question pulls me out of my reverie of thoughts.

I'm not exactly avoiding her, I just want her to keep quiet for once. She's always talking and not going to lie, but I'm suprised that she not the type to talk about things every other girl talks about. She doesn't care about her make up or her body size, she's just... cool.

Seeing as how she's calm now and decided to keep quiet, I speak up. "Glad you decided to keep quiet," I let out a soft chuckle.

"Jerk." She says to me. She's actually cute when she's mad.

"Lunatic." I retort.

"Idiot."

"Angel." I don't miss the faint blush that colours her cheeks and she keeps quiet.

...........

"Did you really have to agree with Henry?" Hailey whines as she puts bandages around her knuckles.

We are in her backyard and I'm about to teach Hailey a few tricks on fighting.

"Did you really want to suffer the consequences?" I say.

"No," she pouts her lips. "What are they anyway?"

"You don't know?" I ask dubiously.

"Nope. I just know that they involve pain."

"Well, for starters, they also involve the people close to you."

"What do you mean?"

I hesitate on telling her for second, since it has never been easy for me to talk about it. Only Jordan and Chase know about her  and I plan to keep it that way.

"Let's just leave it and start training," I say sternly.
