It was January twenty fourth. The one year anniversary of Blake's dads death.

She woke up in a crappy mood. She really hated that a year has honestly gone by that quickly but yet so slow at the same time.

The first few months dragged on, it was miserable for both Blake and her mom. But after she became close with Jace it just flew by which was shocking to her. She really never expected that she would ever meet this day but here she was.

One whole year, three hundred and sixty five days without her dad, her best friend.

She sat curled in a ball on her bed as she pet Sparrow. Her mind not being all there as she stared at her clock. She watched as time ticked by slowly, knowing she was supposed to be in school.

London took Susie on a trip two days ago knowing today was coming up and they didn't bother asking if Blake wanted to tag along. So she was here alone. She figured Jace forgot what today was seeing as he texted her that he couldn't pick her up due to the fact he had to go to school early to ask a teacher for some help.

Today was going to be hard for Blake, just like how it was the first of many things last year, but she knew she would get through it. With or without Jace being with her like he promised.

Sparrow could sense Blake's sad mood as he cuddled up next to the teen girl, she kissed his head softly and looked at his tired face.

"I'm sorry I'm in such a sad mood today bud, it's been one year without dad. If he wasn't allergic to dogs he would have absolutely loved you."

Sparrow stared at Blake and licked the back of her hand. She was glad she at least had him with her.

"Dad?" Blake asked out.

She knew she wouldn't get a reply but she leaned back in bed, staring out her window into the bright blue sky.

A year and a day ago he was alive. He was happy and smiling with her. She hated how much things can change within a year.

"Fuck" she whispered out.

She rubbed her eyes harshly and kissed her dads ashes.

"I love you forever my angel."

She curled back into a ball, holding onto Sparrow as she continued to stare at the sky.

Hours go by and Jace checked his phone to see his unread texts to Blake. She wasn't answering her phone and he was getting worried.

"Jeez Jace, what the hell is up with you?" Tony asked him.

"Blake isn't answering her phone. I've been trying to call her since the end of first period."

"We have two minutes left of school, I'm sure she is fine."

"She always answers my texts though, what if something happened?"

"Well is it her birthday or something that you forgot and she is mad at you for it?"

Jace shook his head, wracking his brain to think why she isn't answering her texts.

"Tony... what day is it?" he asked slowly.

"It's the twenty fourth why?"

"Fuck" he cursed.

He packed up his bag quickly and the bell rang making him rush out the door leaving a confused Tony behind.

He felt like a dickhead, he felt like the worst boyfriend in the history of boyfriends. He promised her months ago he would be there for her on this day and he completely forgot the date. He was an idiot.

He sped to Blake's house and saw her car parked in the driveway. He quickly walked up to her door and opened it quietly before shutting it. Kicking off his shoes, he rushed up the stairs and into her room seeing her curled into a ball with Sparrow up against her.

"Baby" he said softly.

She didn't move, just sniffled her clogged up nose and he got into her bed and held her close to him.

"I'm so sorry I wasn't here earlier" he whispered into her ear.

"It's okay" she mumbled.

He sighed and she curled into him, now enjoying the fact someone was in fact there for her.

"I'm such an idiot Blake, I should have been here all day."

She shrugged and he just now noticed a number one balloon in her room.

"What's that for?"

"Three twenty three was the time of his death, I was going to set that into the sky at that time."

He held Blake a little tighter and kissed her head softly.

When it was three twenty Blake dragged herself out of bed as she carried the balloon.

"Can you wait inside?" she asked softly.

He nodded and gave her a kiss on the forehead and watched her from the kitchen window.

She sat on her porch steps, holding the balloon as she looked at the time.

Three twenty one.

"I hate that a year ago today you were in the hospital, living your last two minutes" she whispered softly.

She didn't care that she wore a short sleeve shirt and it was freezing. "Why did that stupid driver have to be drunk?"

She breathed out shakily and there was a minute left.

"This exact time last year you were still here breathing your last breath. I just want to hug you again dad" she whimpered.

She hated feeling weak but her eyes blurred anyways.

Once the time hit three twenty three she let the balloon go and squeezed her eyes shut.

"I love you dad, I'll see you soon okay? Watch over mom today."

Blake looked up at the sky and wiped her eyes as she stood up and walked back into her warm house after she had a minute of silence for him.

"Baby?"

Her eyes watered more and she hugged Jace.

"I don't like it."

"I know beautiful, I know. You are so strong though, you are the toughest person I've ever met."

He rubbed her back softly, her sniffling quietly as she held onto Jace. She hated feeling this weak, she hated crying especially in front of Jace but she really was just hurting so much.

"Thank you for coming today" she whispered hoarsely.

"Anything for you Blake."

He kissed her head and he brought her back upstairs and into bed.

"Let's just go to sleep okay? Just take a little nap and after we will eat Chinese food, how does that sound?"

Blake nodded and they got under the covers. Jace hugged his girlfriend to him extra tight, wanting to comfort her as much as he could.

He really had no idea how much pain she was going through. He never experienced losing a parent so he held her extra tight, trying to ease her pain slightly.

All he wanted to do was take her pain away.
