(Go back and read chapter 13 if you haven't already. Sometimes I double update and people miss the previous chapter, so I decided to warn you before hand😁)

[Chapter fourteen]

My eyes flutter open and I groan as my head aches.

I roll off my bed and walk to my mirror.

My eyes are red and puffy.

I sigh, walking out of the room and to the bathroom, brushing my teeth and rinsing my face with cold water.

I'm sad.

Well, when am I ever happy?

But I woke feeling really sad and down.

Ugh, I want Tanya!

I trudge downstairs and my mother is nowhere in sight.

I look around the living room and shake my head.

This place looks like a fucking pigsty.

I walk into the kitchen and take some Ritalin which Noah had given me last week. I grab some cleaning supplies before walking into the kitchen walking back into the living room.

I take off the football hoodie, not wanting to get it dirty.

Let's get down to business...to defeat the Huns, HUH!..I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself.

*~*

An hour and a half later, I'm done cleaning the house.

I walk upstairs and change into a pair of jeans and a black tank top, throwing the football hoodie back on.

I walk downstairs just in time for the doorbell to ring.

I look through the peephole and see Noah's ever-brooding face.

I pull the hood over my face and open the door.

"Hey, Carter--" he cuts himself off as his eye travel down to the hoodie. "Where the hell did you get that?!"

"Your mum gave it to me to wear last night, asshole. You know, after the whole fizzy drink accident that you caused." I tell him. "And how did you only notice I'm wearing it now?"

"It was dark last night!" He defends himself. "Take it off!"

"No!" I shake my head. "What's the big deal?! It's just your old football hoodie!"

"It's not mine!"

"What?"

"I--whatever. Just...just give it back as soon as possible...please." He calms down. "Max and Dylan wanted to know if you wanted to go to the Go Kart track with us."

"Uh, no. Thanks for asking, though." I decline his offer.

"What's wrong?"

"What?" I snap my head up to look at him.

"You seem a bit down." He states. "Are you alright?"

"Y-Yeah, I'm fine." I stutter. How did he notice I'm sad?

"No, you're not."

"And how would you know if I'm fine or not?" I question him.

"Is anyone ever actually fine when they say the words 'I'm fine'?" He raises a brow.

"Well, I'm fine! Just leave me alone!" I slam the door in his face, locking it.

I feel really terrible for doing that.

I hear him growl in anger before his footsteps walk off the porch and a car door slams shut.

I groan, slamming my head against the door. "Why am I so bad at being good with people?!"

*~*

I knock on the door and Tanya opens it a few seconds later.

As soon as I walk in, the shuts the door behind me and pulls my hood off.

She studies my face for a few seconds before pulling me into a hug.

"What's wrong, honey?"

What the--

"How do you know something's wrong?" I mumble into her shoulder.

"Motherly instinct." Is all she says before pulling away and leading me to the couch, sitting me down next to her. "Now tell me what's wrong."

"Uhh, well, I woke up feeling really sad today, I guess." I start. "I had a...an argument with my mother last night."

"But that's not the main reason, is it?" Tanya looks at me knowingly.

I purse my lips before bursting like the Hoover Damn.

"I have ADHD! When I was nine, my little sister, Lucy, past away from cancer! When I was fifteen, my twin sister, Heaven, past away from cancer! My dad walked out on my mum and I after Heaven's funeral! The reason I always cover my face is because Heaven and I were identical twins and I can't stand to look at myself! I miss them!" My lip quivers before I burst into tears.

I don't usually cry, but talking about my family always makes me want to die...that rhymed. I didn't mean to rhyme.

Tanya immediately pulls me into her arms, stroking my hair and letting me cry into her chest.

"Shh, it's okay, sweetheart. It's okay." She comforts me, kissing the top of my head.

I sob for what seems like hours before pulling away and wiping my face.

"Tanya, please don't tell the boys." I sniffle.

"I won't, honey." She assures me.

"Tanya?" I say after a moment.

"Yes, sweetie?"

"What's so special about this hoodie?"

Her breath hitches and I start panicking.

"I'm sorry! Forget I said anything! I'm so sorry--"

"No, it's alright, honey." She takes a breath. "Why do you ask, though?"

"Well, Noah came to ask me if wanted to hang out with them this morning but he saw me wearing the hoodie and got mad. He told me it wasn't his and when I asked what he meant, he changed the subject."

"All I can say is, that hoodie you're wearing right now, was his brother's. And he's not with us anymore." She tells me sadly. "The rest is Noah's story to tell."

"Tanya, I'm so sorry." I hug her.

"It's fine, honey." She sniffles a bit. "How about we make some cookies?"

*~*

The door bursts open and three idiots run inside, making me quickly pull my hood up.

"I smell cookies!" Max's voice rings out as he runs into the kitchen followed by Noah and Dylan walking in behind him like sane people. "Hi, Nevaeh!"

Tanya turns to Max who is about to pick up a cookie off the tray. "Max! careful! They're h--"

"OW, SHIT ON A STICK!"

"--ot." Tanya finishes her sentence, staring at Max with a bitch face as he hops around the kitchen, nursing his hand and Dylan laughs loudly at his misfortune, pointing at him.

"You ditched me to spend the day with my mum?" Noah's voice says from behind me.

"Well, unlike you, she doesn't have mood swings worse than a teenage girl on her period." I shrug. "So...yep."
