ANGELOS POV.

I knew it wasn't the worst idea to have Mercury around while I berated her mother and her fiancé.

Deep down, I knew that if it came down to it, it would either take multiple people to get me off of someone, or, it would be Mercury.

And one of those options was a lot more tolerable than the other.

"Which one is theirs?" She asked from the backseat as I drove through the suburban neighborhood.

I did my best not to show it, but I was angry that they lived in an area like this.

An area made for a family when they're missing a member.

"Just around the corner." I looked at her through the rear view, watching her as she looked at the houses.

The only thing that comforted me was the necklace she had on.

I would be able to find her as long as she kept it on her.

I couldn't help but notice that the shimmering diamond had made her look even more so like royalty than she did before.

I still can't believe I made half of that.

By the time I pulled up, there were a couple of vans surrounding it already.

At least they won't try to run now.

I saw the head of security, Dominick, walk out of the house.

"Gino, get her door." I instructed as I got out of the car.

I was very strict on making sure Mercury knew what a gentleman was, and not what the hell I was like growing up.

So she doesn't ever open her own door.

"What did they tell you?" I asked Dominick.

"They are trying to play it off like they weren't doing anything." He rolled his eyes. "We tracked them down and found them near an airport. We dragged them back here and they insist they're telling the truth."

I can't even say I'm surprised at this point.

"Hey Dom." Mercury walked over to us.

Believe it or not, she got along better with hitmen than she did people her own age.

And surprisingly, the hitmen got along with her better than they did with people their own age.

"Hey little boss." He smiled at her before turning back to me. "I'll see you guys inside."

I sighed before turning back to Mer.

"What to you think?" I asked.

There wasn't much to say about the houses exterior.

It was a decent sized house in the suburbs. That was all that could be said about it.

She shrugged. "The perfect house for the perfect family."

"Any family without you in it isn't perfect." I nudged her.

"Well, I can't necessarily disagree with that." She sighed.

"No one can disagree with anything I say. Don't blame yourself."

"Yeah yeah." She laughed. "Are you ready?"

"Only if you are."

MERCURYS POV.

"We are telling the truth!" I heard Nicks voice as I walked in.

The house itself matched the outside. Simple.

I hope I don't regret this.

Almost everyone looked up once Angelo, Gino and I walked into the living room.

On the couch sat Adaline, Nick and a girl that looked to be around my age.

I guess that's the daughter.

Even though she was looking down, I could tell she was pretty.

"Mercury?" Mom asked. "What are you-,"

"Why did you try to run?" I furrowed my eyes as I asked the three of them up front.

"We didn't-," Nick tried to answer.

"Tell the truth." Angelo interrupted.

The moment she heard his voice, she looked up.

Her blue eyes widened as a blush spread across her face.

I hate having young parents.

"We are." The couple insisted at the same time.

I already knew that they were both too stubborn to tell the truth.

But then I got an idea.

"Mom?"

I could practically feel the shock radiating around the room. "Can I talk to you and Angelo for a minute?"

I was really tired of being lied to.

"W-why?"

Because I'm about to guilt trip the hell out of you.

"It's alright Adaline. We'll be fine." Nick interrupted.

She looked at the two of them before hesitantly standing up.

She should be worried about herself.

Angelo gave me a look that asked "what are you doing?"

"We can talk in the office." She led us through the house and up the stairs.

I couldn't help but notice the family pictures hanging on the walls.

They really are the perfect family, aren't they?

"I-is everything alright Mercury?" She asked as she closed the door behind the three of us.

I watched as Angelo took his time looking through the office.

He had found the file drawer on his own, and began looking through it as he pleased.

"Some of that stuff is private-,"

"Why did you leave?" I asked her.

"What?" She was clearly taken aback. She began to pale the same as she did when I saw her in their restaurant.

Even Angelo looked towards my direction for a moment.

"Why are you-,"

"Mom, I want to know why you feel the need to lie all the time."

"Mercury I don't know what you want me to-,"

  "Yes you do."

"No, I don't!"

"You were the one who left! Why did you leave?!" I continued to grill her. Simply waiting for her to make one wrong move.

"It's complicated Mercury!" She ran a hand through her hair.

"It is one answer Mom!"

"I left because I love him! Ok? I lied because I love him!"

"Is that the same reason you tried to leave this time? Because you love him?"

"We tried to leave because I didn't wan't him or Violet to get hurt Mercury! I wanted to take them away from-,"

She clamped a hand over a mouth once she realized what she did.

So the daughters name is Violet?

"Is that what you needed?" I turned to Angelo, who already had a prideful look on his face.

"Buon lavoro neonata." He complimented. "A receipt for the plane tickets to Croatia." He held up a piece of paper.

I turned back to my mother.

"Leaving seems to be what you do best mom."
