Blaine

My parents had arrived and I told them I would be at my grandmother's house shortly.  My parents met Cora's mother and brother, but it was only a quick visit, so we decided to have dinner tomorrow so they can get a chance to know one another.

Will seemed to have adjusted to my parents, and one thing I noticed about him, is how easy going and mature he is for his age.  Maybe he is scared and doesn't want us to see it, I don't know, but we need to get him settled at home soon.

"Cora, Can I see you for a moment?" I asked.

"Sure." She gave me a fake smile.

She needs to know about Savannah and Corey before Will says something.  We walked into the den and I sat before pulling her down to sit on my lap.

"I didn't want to tell you this while you grieve for Gray, but I'm afraid Will might say something before I get a chance," I said as she looked down at me.

"Is this about Cassidy?" She asked.

I shrugged.  "Just an aftermath of the chaos she caused.  I need to tell you what happened before I left Seattle.  Gray knew about Cassidy's identity the entire time, and he also knew about Savannah." I said, and she nodded just before she wiped a tear away from her cheek.

"Yeah." She said.

"Savannah helped Gray and didn't return Will to us because she didn't want me to cut her off financially.  Corey even tried to run away with Will to bring him to New York." I said.

"Really?" She looked surprised.

"Yes, and I'm sure you noticed Mom and Dad had Will with them last night," I said.

"Yeah, I thought Savannah was bringing him here with her." She said.

"That was the plan and I went to their place to make arrangements.  Corey gave me all the information I needed and said he was just excited to get back to a normal life.  He was divorcing Savannah since he didn't have to worry about Will any longer.  We talked, and then I went outside just before I heard a gunshot." I said, and she gasped.

"My men stopped me from running inside just before I heard another one.  Thank God Will was at school, because Savannah took Corey's life, than her own." I said as she started crying.

"Blaine, I'm so sorry.  I didn't know and you took care of me this whole time." She cried.

"I'm fine, it's you and Will that matters.  Again, I'm sorry I had to tell you, but I just now realized Will may say something and I didn't want you to hear it from anyone but me." I said.

I wiped her tears away with my handkerchief while she spoke.

"Will must be going through hell.  I'm so sorry about your aunt." She cried, then leaned down and hugged on to me.

"He seems okay, but I'm not sure what will happen when things settle down and he tries to start a new life.  Everyone he has ever really known is gone now." I said.

"I'm so sorry you went through that without me." She said as she hugged on to me.

"We're going to be okay, Cora.  We have so much to look forward to, and Will is about to start over in a good place.  You're going to be an amazing mother, and I can't wait to see you holding this baby." I said.

"You're an amazing man, and I know you'll be a fantastic father.  We just have to hope your sister didn't leave any other surprises." She said.

"I believe we've had our fill of surprises.  Now, we will plan our future and try to leave all this in our past." I said.

"Good." She gave me a kiss, then I had to leave.

Cora walked me out to the waiting car, and soon I was on my way to Scipio.  When I arrived, my father was outside giving my mother a pep talk.  She's a bit nervous about confronting her mother, which is understandable.  My grandmother is a bit rough around the edges, and sometimes I wonder how my mother was raised by this woman.

It wasn't long before an elderly woman was standing in the doorway of her home staring at us.

"Mom, just remember who put all this into motion.  It wasn't Grandmother or Savannah, it was Cassidy.  Savannah took advantage, but Grandmother thought she was helping." I said, and she wiped a tear away.

"I'm worried about my brothers, the rest can never make up for what they hid from me.  My daughter needed guidance, not to be hidden away from her family." She said.

My uncle Bryan, then my uncle Scott pulled in and parked in the yard.  They are both hard-working men, but never really seemed like they bothered much with the family.  They concentrated on their own lives and always stayed away from the drama Savannah would cause.

Mom hugged them, then Dad and I shook their hands.  I doubt they will condone Savannah's behavior and maybe be just as disgusted as I am, but at least they don't have an ex-wife to still deal with in New York.

We stood outside talking, all of us most likely procrastinating the inevitable.  Facing a grieving elderly widow after the loss of her daughter in such a horrific manner, is by no means appealing.

"What exactly did Savannah do to Cassidy?" My uncle Scott wanted to know before he faced his mother.

"It's more like what she didn't do, Scott.  She knew where she was and had Cassidy's baby with her for all these years." I went on and explained, while my two uncles listened.   Scotty paced and ran his hand over his dace while he listened, and Bryan stood with a look of disbelief on his face.

"Mom always was an enabler as far as Savannah was concerned, and now it has caught up with her," Bryan said as he stared at his childhood home.

"I just want to be sure no other surprises pop up as we work through Will's adoption." I said.
