AVA POV:

The night mares haven't stopped. I thought maybe telling someone about what happened, it would help. It didn't.

I woke up sweaty and panicked, from the recurring night mare of my parents death.

Sighing, I got out of bed and headed for the shower, there was no point laying in bed when I could be up answering emails. After my shower I checked the time; 5:30 am. The sun wasn't even up yet.

My cuts and bruises from the explosion were slowly heeling. I used concealer to cover them completely so the kids at school won't notice.

After sitting at my desk for 2 hours I decided it was time for breakfast. Today I was wearing, baggy sweatpants and an overly sized jumper. My blonde wig was clipped into place, hiding my brown hair. Then I finished by putting my black rimmed glasses on.

Making my way downstairs I passed Finn in the hallway, he was reading the paper. Seriously he acts so mature for his age, it's weird.

He's small enough for me to pick him up and dangle upside down, and yet he acts like hes an 18 year old... sometimes.

"I'm going out this afternoon, so I won't be home when you get home from school" Finn said, making me gasp.

"Why did you gasp?"

"You never talk to me when your reading the paper. Your usually in another world." I over dramatically gave him my best shocked expression

He rolled his eyes and chuckled, folding the paper together. "Oh, I've already read this"

Of course.

"Wait, where are you going?" I ask actually realizing what Finn had said.

"Meet up with some friends" He shrugged.

"Finn, your only friends are members of the gang. No offence"

Finn chuckled. "Actually, I was at the park the other day and I was asked to fill in for this soccer game"

I smiled. "That's awesome"

He shrugged again, but I could tell he was smiling.

Finn has grown up around the gang lifestyle. But unlike me, Finn hasn't ever socialized with anyone outside of the gang. So it makes me incredibly happy to hear he has made some 'normal' friends. But this also makes me concerned. Finn in my brother, so he could be targeted to get a reaction from me, from opposing gangs.

"However I'm only letting you go if a guard goes with you" I instruct, becoming the older sister I should usually be.

"That's fine, unlike you, I don't mind them. I don't even notice them" Finn says grinning from ear to ear and walking towards his room.

I shake my head, but also chuckle knowing how right he is.

***

"Nerdy, Nerdy Ava. It's been a while" Adam laughs, coming up behind me in the school hallway.

I roll my eyes, and ignore him.

"Last time I seen you was when you had a little panic attack over your parents" He mocks, leaning against the locker next to me.

I mentally cringe at the memory. How pathetic.

"Does little nerd have parent issues" He spits in a humorous manor, that is only humorous to him and his twats of friends.

"Not really, I fainted because your breath smelt really bad" I say calmly, turning to face Adam and his friends who all looked quite shocked at my reaction. He recovers quickly and smirks.

"You actually want to talk back to me?" His expression turns from joking into serious in a matter of seconds. At first I thought Adam had something wrong with his voice, but then I realized he was trying to sound threatening.

"You seriously expect me not to answer? You constantly ask me questions" I say in a bored tone.

Adam raises his eyebrow before smirking again. So creepy.

"You will never guess who is transferring to this school?" Adam says laughing a deep laugh.

"Who?" I ask.

"Ashley"

I feel my body stiffen at the name. I gulp loudly, knowing exactly who he is talk about.

"Ashley Mac"

Ashley Mac, moved to London over Christmas break to 'experience a new scenery' or some shit. Known as north shores queen bee, and her an Adam have teamed up since I came to high school in a tag team effort of making my life hell.

Ashley hates me.

I thanked god the day she moved to London, but hearing that she is transferring back is going to make my secret even harder to keep considering  I'll want to bash her head in more than ever. Why I want to bash her head in more than ever? Because Ashley is one of those girls that will gloat about her rich family, and expensive mansion. This will annoy me, because Ashley has always decided to make my life hell by pointing out whats wrong with me.

Adam is bliss compared to Ashley.

I can take the punches and scars from Adam.

But having some bitch walk all over me thinking she is better, and not being able to do anything is worse.

Adam will comment on my faults, but they are pathetic things like how I'm a 'nerd'. He can't impact me like she can.

Well it wouldn't make my life interesting if there wasn't a selfless, queen bee bully. Would it?

The bell rings, and Adam laughs again, before sauntering off with his friends.

I slam my locker, catching a few glances from passing students before making my way to class.

***

I was catching up on my TV series, Peaky blinders when the intercom from the front gate rang.

"Vic? what is it?" I ask by using the button on the intercom. Vic controls the front gate, and who enters and leaves.

"Sorry to disturb you ma'am, but there is a boy here named Caleb" Vic replied and I raise my eyebrow curiously. Knowing Vic can't see me.

"What does he want?" I ask confused.

What could Caleb be doing here?

"He says he want's to hang out" Vic replies.

I think for a moment before replying. "Let him in"

Perhaps a relaxed afternoon is what I need.

The door bell rings moments later and I open it to reveal a blue eyed boy staring at me with a cheeky grin plastered on his face.

"Hey" I say opening the door wider for him to enter.

"Hey nerdy Ava" He jokes, stepping inside.

"That's a horrible nickname" I tell him, shutting the door behind Caleb.

"You want a different one?" Caleb says chuckling.

I nod and walk the distance back to the couch where my paused Peaky blinders was.

Caleb follows me and takes a seat on the couch next to me.

"Yep" I say bringing my knees to my chest.

"Well what then?" he asks placing his feet on the coffee table and getting comfortable.

"I don't care anything but that" I say laughing.

Caleb thinks for a moment. "Okay I'll think of one" he winks at me before looking at the paused TV.

I chuckle.

"What ya watching?" He says grinning.

"Peaky blinders" I say.

Caleb nods before standing up.

"I have an idea!" He says his eyes lighting up with a mischievous glint.

"Okay?"

"Let's go on a date" He says nodding to himself like he had just thought of a great idea.

I on the other hand was opened mouth shocked.

Caleb wants to go on a date with me?

"Stop looking at me like I've grown two heads" Caleb says smirking and grabbing my hand to pull me off the couch.

I follow behind him not even realizing it.

Caleb doesn't let go of my hand as he drags me outside to his car.

"Are you serious?" I finally ask.

"Yes"

I try and ignore the excitement feeling I get in my stomach.

"Were are we going?" I ask, letting go of his hand, and getting inside his truck.

Right now I'm acting on impulse. I don't even consider how bad it would be for me to go on a date with Caleb. I just do it.

"It's a surprise" Caleb says grinning, as he turns the truck on.

I feel the excitement run through my body as Caleb grabs my hand again and begins driving.

"I don't know what I'm doing?" I mutter to myself.

Caleb hears and looks at me and grins.

"You're having fun Ava" He smirks and we silently drive towards the surprise.

I ignore the questions and thoughts I have running through my mind. Why would you..? Don't you think...? Don't get distracted...

Knowing that if I think about them, I will talk my way out of this date, when really I want to go.

I want to go on a date with Caleb. I never thought I'd think that.

I've never been on a real date. I've never even liked a boy before. All of this is new to me. I fear that if I let Caleb to close, he will hurt me. Because right now in this moment, he's the only one that can.

But as I look at an excited Caleb driving carelessly through north shore. I trust that he won't hurt me.

I don't notice we have pulled up at the surprise until Caleb lets go of my hand and turns to look at me.

"We're here" he grins.

I turn to look at the place.

"Oh my god..."
