35. Sunday Week Thirteen

Cayd had told me on Friday night that Eli had started training on Sundays again so I knew there was no danger of running into him at Staircase.

At least, that is what I kept telling myself as I knocked on the side door for the club. A burly man opened the door and looked me up and down, "who are you?"

"I need to see Mikael."

He crossed his arms across his chest and glared down at me, "that doesn't answer my question."

"Reillyn?"

I looked over the man's shoulders to see Vincent striding towards us, perfect.

"Move, Toby," he steeled Toby with a cold glare, "always let her in."

Toby gave a short nod and moved aside, letting me enter; although with Vincent's presence confirmed, I wasn't sure I wanted to.

"What are you doing here?"

"I need to see Mikael."

Vincent gave a sick smile, "why? I'm much more fun to hang out with."

"Where is he, Vincent?" I sighed, in no mood to deal with him.

He frowned, "it was stupid of you to come here alone, Reillyn."

"Why? Do you assume that I couldn't hurt you if I wanted to?"

He smirked, "I'd like to see you try."

I cocked my head to the side and then shrugged, "okay."

My leg raised and I kicked him square in the balls, taking great pleasure in his moans of pain. I rolled my eyes, what a bitch.

Having fuck all clue where Mikael was and not wanting to spend even a second longer around Vincent, I stormed past him.

Stood in the centre of the empty club, I span in a circle trying to find an office, which Cayd had told me was where Mikael spent all of his time — he was surprisingly easy to get information out of when he was drunk. There was a grey door with a thin window in the centre which looked positively dodgy so I made my way over and wrenched it open to find a staircase.

There was a hallway at the top of the stairs littered with doors and it was a complete pick and mix as to which one housed Mikael. I stepped further into the hallway and tugged my jacket closer around me as the wooden floorboard creaked beneath my feet. The doors and walls were all a smooth black with the doorknobs and doorframes painted a vibrant gold.

Except for one door which had a glistening silver doorknob and a silver doorframe which screamed Mikael; conceited asshole.

Not bothering to knock, I pushed the door open and was faced with Mikael sat at his desk scribbling notes on a piece of paper — huh, the shithead wasn't illiterate.

His eyebrows rose in shock, "Miss Cole? This is a surprise."

I shrugged nonchalantly before running my fingers across his bookcase curiously, "is it?"

"No, I guess it isn't. Why are you here?"

I took a seat on the other side of his desk, "what did you say to Ryker?"

"It's 'Ryker' now is it?"

My eyes narrowed, "we broke up but I'm assuming you knew that."

Mikael leant back in his chair and lit a cigar, taking a puff before answering me, "I suspected but I fail to see why this has you barging into my office as if I won't blow your head off for interrupting me."

I sucked in a breath of air and reminded myself that this guy wasn't just an asshole, he was a dangerous asshole who wouldn't hesitate in hurting me if that was what he wanted to do.

"You must have said something to Ryker to make him break up with me, there is no other explanation."

Mikael laughed, "you really are a sad, desperate, little girl, aren't you?" He leant his elbows further onto the desk, "my son broke up with you because he wanted to, so get that in your thick skull. Now unless you want me to give you to my other son for his enjoyment, I suggest you get the fuck out of my office."

I knew I should've stood up and left but instead, I frowned and said, "your other son?"

Mikael smirked and blew out another puff of smoke, "Ryker didn't tell you?"

"Tell me what?"

"Vincent is Ryker's half brother and he seems to have taken quite a liking to you," then he muttered under his breath, "both my sons have."

"Vincent is a pig."

As suddenly as he had been calm, anger overtook Mikael. He drew his gun from his pocket and pointed it straight at my head causing my breathing to quicken and my eyes to widen.

"I don't know who the fuck you think you are, girl, but I have had enough of you and your problems. I don't give a shit if Ryker broke up with you and I have no fucking clue why I even entertained your stupid questions in the first place but now I am saying that you have officially wasted my time," he unclicked the safety on his gun and my grip tightened on the arms of the chair, he gave me a sick smile, "so now you die."

My breath got caught in my throat and my palms began to sweat profusely. Why the fuck did I come here alone? My chest rose and fell with each of my laboured breaths but I expelled a loud gasp at the sound of someone knocking on the door.

"Boss?" A familiar voice called, "can I come in?"

Mikael looked at me and smirked, "it's your lucky day, girl," then his smirk transformed into a cruel glare, "now get the fuck out."

Lighting fast, I shot out of my chair and turned to leave the office just as someone else entered. My heart stopped.

"Reillyn?"

He shut the door behind him, trapping me in with two of the worst monsters I had known in my whole life.

"Marcus," I breathed out, terrified beyond words.

Mikael waved his gun between the two of us, "you two know each other?"

Marcus nodded and then looked at Mikael with a dirty smirk, "she's my ex-girlfriend."

Mikael gave a low laugh, "you really do attract some bad types, girl."

Don't I know it.

A crease formed between his brown eyes as he took in Mikael's words, "bad types? What are you talking about?"

Mikael chuckled again, "she," he points the gun at me, "used to date my son Ryker."

Fuck.

Sure, Marcus had seen us in the cafeteria that day, but he didn't know the full extent of what happened between me and Eli and I didn't want him to. Now alone in a room with him and another psychotic asshole, the truth had finally gotten to him and I feared how he would react.

"You bitch," he yelled, "you were dating that, Ryker scum?"

I flinched and stepped back, pressing as close to the wall as I could get. It was as if it was muscle memory to cower in fear whenever I heard Marcus yelling, it was my bodies natural reaction.

He stepped closer and wrapped his hand around my neck, squeezing tighter and tighter and tighter. I thrashed in his grip, my legs flailing beneath me as I gasped for breath, clawing at his hand. Tears were flowing freely from my eyes and my ears were pulsing with heat as Marcus cut off my air supply.

He leant down close until his nose was touching mine, "I'm going to kill you, you pathetic bitch."

He released me and I fell to the ground, gasping for breath and clutching my neck as if I could somehow physically pry the skin apart to allow more oxygen into my body. But just as I took a huge gulp off the air in, it escaped me as Marcus delivered a blow right into my gut; the air caressed the lips of my open mouth. Another kick to my ribs. And another in the face.

Pain exploded on my cheek and I cried out, willing myself to focus on anything but the pain. I squeezed my eyes shut and focused on a face, Ty's face. My baby brother. Just like I did every time Marcus beat me. I focused on those I loved.

But then a new face made an appearance. Eli. A smirking Eli, shirtless after one of his fights and I knew that I wasn't just going to lie here and let Marcus do this to me again.

My hand shot out to push his knees together violently. Surprised that I had acted against him, Marcus fell to the floor beside me but before he could get up and continue his brutal assault, I leapt to my feet and kicked him in the gut hard. I then delivered the fiercest blow I could manage to his crotch and delighted as he howled in pain.

My eyes flickered up to see Mikael reclining in his chair, casually smoking his cigar but he made no move to stop me as I stepped over a moaning Marcus and ran like hell out of there.
