You know, when I first realized what I was doing I had to take a moment to pinch myself cause I thought I was going crazy. I mean, here I was changing my free period to take some cooking class with a girl. Not just any girl, but Diana fucking Lewis. When you really think about it, you might wonder if I've lost my mind. Don't get me wrong, cooking class is all good and fun, but when your mother has taught you how to cook, you don't really need it.

But here I was, changing my only free period for this girl. I think Ms. Roberts' idea of creating a dish from different countries is unique. You get to learn about other cultures and their amazing food. Take Dominican Republic, their mangu is actually delicious. Last time I visited said island was on a business trip with my father. I think you can guess it was a really long time ago.

Diana and I met after school at her house. I had to make a small stop back at my house to grab all the ingredients and then head over to hers.

"Do you know how hard it is to find a coco here? We have to use canned coco." I tell her as I show her the cans I bought.

"There's a difference?" Diana takes a bite out of her granola bar.

"Ay señor. Of course there is. The flavor, the water. Everything changes Diana."

"Calm down flower." I smack the granola off her hand. The stupid nickname she has for me; I hate it. "What the fuck Miles."

"After you finish your little tantrum, I was thinking when we decorate the tembleque, we add chocolate drizzle. You know, like they do in restaurants." I say.

"I think caramel is better."

"You've never even tried the postre." I exclaim.

"One, stop saying things in Spanish." She holds one finger up. "Two, caramel looks more aesthetic."

Fuck the aesthetic.

"Uno, you need to learn Spanish." I mock her. "Dos, must you disagree with everything I say?"

"It's really fun, actually." She laughs. Music starts blasting... Is that- is that Why Don't We? Oh fuck no.

"Turn the basic boy band off. And hand me the phone." I try grabbing the phone from her, but she stands up and runs to the opposite end of the island. "Come on Diana. Hand over the phone." We're running circles around the island, the boy band music no longer affecting my ear drums.

"You're going to turn off my baby's."

"What do you mean your baby's? I'm your only baby, okay?" I tell her.

"No you aren't. Not when you want to turn off my boys." Her boys? What the fuck is she saying.

"That's kind of the whole point. Turning them off." Diana loses her focus long enough for me to run up behind her. My arms wrap behind her as her torso leans forward.

"Miles!"

"Hand over the phone and no one gets hurt, hermosa." I say against her ear, my hands still around her.

"Fine you win, flower." She hands over the phone as I roll my eyes. That fucking nickname.

"I am going to show you the best music." I tell her.

"What? Like Bad Bunny?"

"Don't disrespect Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio like that." Diana snorts. Actually snorts. "I was thinking more like Marc Anthony. His salsa music slaps."

"You know his whole name? You're a psychopath." I ignore her. "But really, Marc Anthony sucks." She mumbles under her breath. "Do you know how to dance?"

"Salsa? Obviously. Who do you think I am?"

"Teach me." She pleads.

"Someday, but not today hermosa. Let's get to work. Mami gave me her recipe, but I haven't really tried doing it on my own."

We got to work, mixing all the ingredients that tembleque consists of. The last time I made this was with mami's help. I don't trust myself enough to do this on my own. I drink a little of the leche de coco once we know we don't need it anymore.

"Can we taste it now?" Diana asks. Her eyes are wide and excited as she leans over the clean part of the kitchen island.

"Patience my young bird, it has to cool off for three hours in the fridge." It sounds like a long time, but in order for it to actually have the consistency it needs, it has to really cool off.

Diana wipes her hands and sits on the stool. Her dark hair covers her face a bit and she doesn't seem to mind. But I do. I want to see all her face, not just a little of it. I'm so caught up in her, that I barely miss her question. "How was your week?"

"Like hell. I had two test that I think I might failed and I also had this stupid project I had to turn in. Then Clarissa also needed help with her science project and Alejandro couldn't help her, so of course I had to do that. On top of everything, mom's car broke down and I had to pick her up. Her tire got fucked up. I changed it and whatever, but this week was not easy." I take a deep breath once I finish my hour's speech. "I'm sorry, that was a lot." I don't know why I'm apologizing, I just am.

"Look at you finally doing some work." She jokes.

"The floor looks awfully lonely." I give her my award winning, I'm going to throw you off the chair smile.

"Don't you dare." Who does she think she is? "But really, you should relax. Let's go to the pool." She suggested.

"I didn't see the pool when I first came here."

"It's inside the pool house."

"Of course you have a pool house."

Diana excuses herself so she can change into a swimsuit. I don't have swim trunks, but I can just take my sweatshirt off and jump in my shorts. It doesn't take long for her to come back down.

The pool house is big and comfy. A giant rectangular pool sits in the middle. A few tables and chairs surround it. There is a big bar at the far right of the house and what I assume is another room with a bathroom, kitchen, and all of that.

"It has a built in heater." I follow Diana's voice and thats when I find her in one of the pool chairs taking off her cover up. The yellow bikini has small red flowers. Don't look at her body. Don't look at her body. Fuck. She's so pretty. I lick my lips and focus on her eyes. Yes, pretty eyes. Little brown eyes.

I pull off my sweatshirt. "It does? Thats-" I clear my throat. What is happening to me? "That's great. Really."

"What happens if I push you, flower?" Diana starts creeping up on me. A mischievous smile present in her face.

"I'll pull you down with me."

"Lets see." Diana actually pushes me. I underestimated her strength. Both her hands push against my shoulders and if I grabbed her a second later I wouldn't have pulled her with me.

Before we go back up, I grab her waist and swim upwards.

"I pushed you." The mischievous smile is still there. She doesn't even care I pulled her in also.

"I pulled you in." Our faces are close. Extremely close. So close I can feel heartbeat and her breath against my cheeks.

"You did." I don't say anything. All I can think about is how soft her skin is. How sweet she smells. And how wet her lips are. Tiny droplets of water form on her bottom lip. It's like she senses them and pulls her bottom lip in, drying it. "You know-"

"Diana, I'm planning on making-" Diana and I pull away quicker than the speed of light. "Oh lord. Sorry love, I didn't know you had company." I run my hand against my jaw. What would have happened if she didn't interrupt.

"Sorry. I thought you were coming in later. Maggy, this is Miles. Miles meet Maggy."

"Are you staying for dinner, love?" I eye Diana from the side of my eye.

"I don't want to intrude."

"You wouldn't. I'll start it soon. In the meantime enjoy your time, try to head up in an hour, okay Diana?"

"Thanks." Maggy leaves and Diana and I are alone again. "Sorry. I really thought she was coming in later."

"Trying to keep me all to yourself hermosa?" I joke.

"I just don't want others to suffer from your company."

"How generous of you."

The afternoon paces too quickly for my liking. Dinner was amazing. Maggy is an amazing cook. The chicken and rice remind me a lot of my grandmother's cooking which is the best compliment someone can ever get. My abuela is the best cook out there.

Our tembleque ended up being a success, both Maggy and Diana enjoying it. However, for the final project I plan on adding a little more coconut milk.

I don't leave her house until late in the night. Diana made me watch some weird ASMR videos she seems to love. The creator talks really softly against the microphone as she glams up her camara. I don't know.

I couldn't hide away the stupid smile that found residence in my face for the rest of weekend. Alejandro and Clarissa teased me about it, but I couldn't care less. I wasn't ready to admit how deeply I really cared about Diana Lewis. I wasn't ready to admit that after so many years I might have an actual chance with her.

Miles trying to impress Diana like: ^^^^
