Four years earlier:

Haziel:

"I see you have great skills. You could be of great assistance to me."

Haziel and her Master were seating across each other in a cafe.

"Need me to punish some more humans in hell?"

Master nodded his head. No. "I guess you are not familiar with the events happening down in Hell, considering you hail from a very distant land."

"Not a clue." said Haziel.

"I'll give you some insight. But first, I want you to tell me everything you know about Lucifer."

The hair on the back of Haziel's neck rose immediately. The name itself arrested her breath.

"Uh..Not much." She lied.

"Good." He smirked and leaned over the table, "Lucifer is dead, Haziel. They say he was plotting to wipe all the Reapers off the face of Hell, fearing one of them might shove a scythe into his heart. What he didn't know was," Master's voice dropped into a whisper, "The only Reaper who could kill him got the whiff of his intentions." He leaned back into his chair, smiling, "One moment Lucifer was recruiting his army for the attack, the next moment he was lying flat on his face, dead, in his very own kingdom."

Haziel gasped.

"And guess what, the reaper didn't even use his scythe to accomplish his plan for he had a good knowledge of the only weapon that could ultimately end the life of Lucifer."

"What was it?" Haziel was more than curious now.

"An axe whose blade is engraved with the words of God."

Haziel nodded, absorbing the information. "And what about the other six Princes?"

Master arched his eyebrow, "Hiding, but their troops are hot on the trail of the rogue reaper. They think they-" Master shifts his gaze from Haziel to the man in a black suit standing across the road.

"Master?" Haziel asks, puzzled. Master tossed few bills on the table. "Let's take a walk." He grabbed Haziel by her arm and dragged her along as he walked out of the cafe.

Four years later -

Present time line:

Eric's P.O.V

After shoving my bag into my locker and grabbing my books, I walked down the corridor, my head held high. Girls fluttered around greeting, eyeing, and smiling. I saw Stacy as I entered the canteen. She winked at me, sitting at a table among her clowder. I wink back at her and head down to the auditorium only to find it dark and empty.

"Henry? You there buddy? my voice echoed.

Silence.

I walk up to the podium and scan the entire place. Confused, I quickly take my cellphone out of my pocket and dial Henry's number. It goes straight to his voice mail.

"Dude, where the fvck are you? You said you'll be-" A loud shrill emits from my phone, I immediately tear it away from my ear. What the hell was that?

"Eric." A faint whisper loomed over my ear, freezing me in my tracks.

"Hello?" I shout, unsure of what's happening.

"The axe." Another whisper.

I look around frantically, still not seeing a soul around. "It's not funny Henry. Come out now." I get off the stage.

"GET THE AXE, AND GET OUT!" A loud scream made me jump, almost deafening me. My mind couldn't register what just happened.

"IT'S NOT REAL ERIC, DON'T LET THEM GET INTO YOUR HEAD, IT'S JUST A DIVERSION. YOU NEED TO-" I fall down to my knees with my hands covering my ears. The voice was stern and it was getting louder.

"STOP IT!" I yell back, my heart hammering against my chest.

"GET THE AXE AND GET OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!"

I screw my eyes shut as I press my hands harder to my ears. My head was pounding from squeezing my ears so hard.

"LEAVE ME ALONE!" I scream till the loud screams fade into a muffled whisper. I open my eyes and look around, panting. I wasn't in the auditorium now, I was kneeling before a rusty trunk in a dark room and the only source of light was a thin sliver of moonlight seeping through a crack on the roof. I stood up, looking around the small room. There were no windows, no doors, no furniture but only an old trunk.

Sweat was beading on my forehead, my throat felt raw from screaming. I didn't know how I got transported from school to here. I didn't know where in the world I was. I could feel my heart pounding in my ears. I quickly check my pockets for my cellphone. It was gone. A deep, aching fear settled over my heart, almost choking me. How did I get here? Was I drugged or something? Am I being held captive here? Am I kidnapped? No no no no! I refuse to be killed in this filthy room.

I walk towards one of the four walls and tap it. A hollow sound. So, there is something behind it. Gathering all of my strength, I kicked it. Nothing happened. I do the same with the other walls as well but the result was no different. After an hour of kicking and clawing the walls, I finally slump down on the floor, out of breath.

My gaze fall on the rusty trunk sitting against the other wall. I crawl to it and run a hand over the cold metal. It was small, could fit a five year old. May be my kidnappers are going to stuff my dead body into the trunk.

A key. I need a key to open it. I crawl around the floor, looking for a key in vain. After a while, I give up the search and go back to the trunk. I was so angry at this point, I stood up and kicked it, hard, and instantly felt a sharp pain in my leg that shot up through my body.

Defeated, I drop into a crouch and tug at my hair. Is this how I'm going to die? Stuck in a dark room. Are the cops ever going to find my body? I lay flat on the floor on my back and shut my eyes close. My knuckles were bruised, heart threatening to jump right out of my throat. I was exhausted.

***

"The amulet."

"Huh?" I blink my eyes open.

"As long as you have the amulet, you are safe." A distant whisper woke me up. I bolt upright and look around. I was still in the same small room but it wasn't dark any more. The sun rays have found their way through the crack on the roof. Did I sleep through the night? But it literally felt like a heartbeat.

I take a deep sigh and hug my knees against my chest. Suddenly a copper amulet dangle over my chest. I straighten my backbone and untie it from around my neck. An idea suddenly struck me. I quickly crawl to the trunk and insert the amulet gradually into the keyhole. It instantly activates the latch mechanism inside the lock and the trunk opens by itself. Inside lay a short handled Axe with a crescent blade. My eyes widen at the sight. The blade shone bright, as if it hadn't ever been touched. I pull it out of the trunk and examined it. The blade had something engraved on it but the text was too small to read. The haft, too, had some symbols carved on it. I pull the amulet out of the trunk's lock and gaze at it. The symbols on the amulet resembled the symbols on the haft.

Suddenly the sky roars and the small room shakes violently. I gasp and look up at the ceiling. Another large crack form where the ceiling meets the walls. Before I could move away, a sheet of plaster cracked loose and fell to the floor, throwing up a cloud of dust. I quickly pull the metal trunk into a corner and flip it upside down. Next, I crouch and pull the trunk over my head as to shield myself from the constantly falling rubble. The thunders boomed and the room continued to shatter all around me. I notice the amulet. It was glowing in the dark. With the axe still in my grip, I shut my eyes close and wait for this nightmare to end.

I was frightened, out of breath, when the shattering stopped around me. I push the trunk off me and quickly get on my feet only to find myself standing amidst the debris from the demolition of the room. At first it seemed as if I was trapped in the rubble but when I started mount the wreckage, I made it out of the place without a scratch on my body.

Once out, the first thing I notice is the dark sky above me. Booming thunders could still be heard in the distance. And the next thing that grasps my attention is the skyscrapers peeking through a thick layer of fog around me. My hair blow in the air and suddenly the realization hits me as if I were punched in the stomach; I'm on a rooftop of a skyscraper! My stomach churn as I consider the possibility of standing on the edge.

I was blinded by the thick fog, and the cool breezes chilled me to the bone. I stand rooted to the ground for a long time for the fear of toppling over from an unguessed height. My hand trembls as I reach out to feel the rooftop barrier around me. I clutch at the axe in my hand and chew my bottom lip at the touch of cold metal railing on my fingertips. Holding my breath, I lean in forward and grasp the railing. I held on to it tight, unsure of how to proceed now.

"Eric you son of a-" I turn my head around to the growl. It came from behind. Peering over my shoulder, I could see nothing but the white smoke. I slowly pivot on the balls of my feet and put the other hand on the railing too. The cold metal was now pressing against my back, my teeth chattering.

I narrow my eyes as I scan the rooftop through the fog. The debris of the room was no where to be seen. I focus my eyes on a silhouette coming towards me through the white cloud. "Hello?" I yell.

"Jump." A whisper startled me. I look around, unable to comprehend the current situation. "YOU HAVE TO JUMP. NOW." It was the voice inside my head.

"The axe doesn't belong to you." said the silhouette, which turns out to be a Liam Jefferson, one of my friends.

"I'm over here. Help me out, man! I don't know how I ended up here. I-"

"Hand over the axe or I'll shoot you." Liam's voice was stern. He inched closer with a gun pointed in my direction.

"Liam?" I choke out as I blink in confusion. "What the hell is happening?"

"JUMP, YOU FOOL!" echoed a scream in my head. I swallow hard.

I had no knowledge as to where in the world I was, I didn't know how I got on a skyscraper. Liam, my buddy, was walking towards me with a gun in his hand, behind me was a mere railing to shield me from my demise, the voices in my head wanted me to jump off the building. WTF!

"Chances of coming out of this nightmare are next to zero if you don't hand over the axe." Liam smirked.

"Okay, okay. I will hand it over to you, but...just.. don't shoot me." I choke out, still not believing my eyes. Liam had always been a good friend to me. This wasnlt anticipated from him. Instead of saving me, he is holding me at a gun point for a mere axe? What's gotten into him suddenly? And what is it about this stupid Axe anyways?

I let go of the railing behind me and hold my breath. Just when I was about to toss the Axe over to Liam, something crossed my mind. What did Liam just say? "Chances of coming out of this nightmare are..." NIGHTMARE! This is nothing but a fvcking nightmare! I guess that's what the voices had been trying to tell me all along. I've trusted them before, may be I should trust them again. But it's only because of them, I'm caught up in such situation. What do I do now?

"What are you waiting for?" Liam hissed as he pushes the shotgun's safety off.

My mind was racing. I have to make a decision now. If I don't hand over the gun, Liam will shoot me and If I go for a jump, I may or may not die. Either way it is me who is going to get hurt.

I draw in a deep breath and quickly pivot on the balls of my feet. I could hear Liam swearing and charging at me from behind, but before he could shoot at me, I propell myself over the railing and plunge into the darkness.
