*Just a note, the teaser from the previous part was just a teaser of something to come in the future. Keep that in mind! It hasn't happened yet! <3

SIXTY FOUR|

The sun was setting over the mountains by the time we got to the bottom. Dirt crunched under our feet, a breeze pushing past the five of us. I was sure we had to be quite the group, all covered in blood and grime. I wasn't even wearing real clothing yet. I don't think it mattered at this point, all we focused on was escaping.

Regrouping.

My hand tightened around my sword and for once Zero was quiet in my head. I took that as a blessing and didn't bother asking for her. When we reached the Jeep, Lori moved to the driver's seat and Leon didn't argue. I don't think any of us were in the mood. I slid into the back, with Lisa on one side of me and Sebastian on the other.

"So," Lori broke the silence, "Where are we off to?"

I leaned back, my eyes closing as exhaustion fell over me. That entire fail of an ordeal had me so fucking tired. I was tired of failing, I was tired of putting those I cared about in danger, I was tired of being hurt. Physically and mentally. Beside me, Sebastian's arm went around my shoulders and he pulled me into his chest. I didn't argue, his chest was a comfortable pillow and I was much too tired to bite back.

Leon sighed, "To the Town of Roses first."

"Why not the Cove?" Lisa argued.

"Because I want to go to the Town of Roses first."

"Well you don't get to decide!"

"And you do brat?"

Sebastian's voice rumbled in his chest, "Shut up the lot of you, Mira didn't just fight for all our lives for you two to bicker like children. She isn't an illicit, she has the virus and in there it was stronger than ever, we don't know how that affected her body. She needs rest."

I felt like I was stuck in a dark cloud of exhaustion. I couldn't move, I couldn't speak and yet I could hear each and every word. It sounded far away, so far away and yet I could hear every word. I wanted to tell them not to worry about me, I didn't want them wasting their time on me and yet I could do nothing but listen.

"Do you think she'll be ok?" Lisa whispered.

Leon snickered, "You're acting like she'll turn into a zom in any moment."

"And you aren't?" Lisa snapped back, "She's my best friend, but we have to be realistic. There's no denying the virus mutated inside her but we all saw how she looked. How she acted. Just like another zom, only one with a conscious. But that wasn't Mira's conscious. T-That was hunger. What if next time Mira doesn't come back?"

More silence.

I could feel myself losing to the darkness now as I realized Lisa was right. I had to be more careful –I wasn't immortal, and I wasn't special. Zero wanted us to survive but she didn't care in what state. She didn't care for Mira. She cared for survival and if she decided Zero could survive better than Mira then I would disappear, and I wouldn't come back.

I couldn't let that happen.

"Enough," Sebastian snapped, sounding annoyed, "If that happens then we'll deal with it then. There's no point talking about something that may not even be possible. We don't know how the virus affects Mira we just know it gives her abilities like the illicit. For now, let's work on saving our own asses so she doesn't need to use her abilities so much."

"Well look who has a point for once," Leon muttered.

Lori cleared her throat, "Town of Roses then?"

"Town of Roses," Lisa agreed, "Let Mira see her boyfriend. She deserves a little bit of happiness right now."

Sebastian's arm tightened around me, "What a wonderful idea love."

Leon snickered as I fell into the ink of darkness.
