"Howdy stranger," Cerci called spotting me from my spot on Cam's porch.

My eyes drifted up, a smile tugging onto my face.

"She can stay with us, I'm sure Jax won't mind. Not to mention he'll be training her."

Instantly, my smile was gone and my eyes narrowed.

"Whoa, that's a fierce look. Normally people have that one when they think of Jax – let me guess he said something rude?" Cerci laughed coming to sit beside me.

I chuckled, not doubting her for a second.

"At least it went well with Alana. Not that it doesn't, she always sees the complete good in people. Take Jax for example, I know he can come off rude and insensitive but he's actually a really good person," she hummed.

My mind flashed to the clothing I was wearing, and my face heated up. I looked up at the darkening sky. It's already night time? I guess, time flew by today with everything that has happened.

A yawn escaped my lips making my eyes widen in shock as they turned to Cerci who looked at me equally shocked. Then she laughed, while a blush danced across my cheeks.

"Tiring day huh? I should be heading down to the bar, if you ever want to hang out find me at the shop, or the bar at nights. It was nice meeting you Mira," she giggled wrapping an arm around me.

I smiled at the close contact.

"You too Cici," I teased.

Her eyes widened, then she stuck her tongue out at me.

"You and Cam both suck." She cried getting up.

I couldn't help but shake my head as she pranced down the porch, and towards the road. At the road, she waved me goodbye with a happy grin, and I waved back. Her figure then turned as she began her way towards the center shops.

A chilly breeze went by, and I yawn again growing even more tired by the second. Standing, and stretching my back I could hear the door open behind me. I turned around to see Cam smiling in the doorway. I noted his hair messy and wet, and little droplets clinging to his face. I looked away quickly.

"Come on in, before you get sick again," he said with a warm smile.

I nodded, following him inside as he led me down the hall to one of the rooms.

"Oh, I can sleep in the living room," I stated quickly waving him off.

He shrugged.

"Don't complain, take the damn room," grumbled a deeper voice.

My eyes widened, as I looked up to see a shirtless Jax in the living room. Heat rushed to my face as I felt dizzy. He was very fit, muscles upon muscles it seemed. With a tattoo of a dragon across his side. I had to clench my jaw to keep it from dropping.

"O-ok," I mumbled stumbling back into the room that Cam had opened the door to.

Jax grinned, causing me to snap back to my senses. My eyebrow twitched and I glared at him, then my hand shot out to slam the door loudly.

"Thank you Cam!" I called ignoring Jax entirely.

He could kiss my ass. I don't care what Cici had said, I don't think Jax had a nice bone in his body. Maybe that's because he was all muscle. A delicious shiver went down my spine and I shook my head viciously.

"Go to sleep Erin," I snapped to myself.

I turned in the dark room and instantly spotted the bed. I stumbled over, and lurched forward only realizing now how tired I really was. I think the moment my head hit the pillow I was already drifting away. Completely forgetting the fact I called myself by my old name.

"Ring around a rosie,"

I giggled and danced around in a circle. The bright yellow dress I wore clashed against the blood staining its material.

"a pocket full of posies,"

Around me the bodies lingering across the grass was evident but not so haunting.

"hush, hush we all fall down."

The wound on my hip burned, causing me to scream out. No one could hear me, everyone was long ago dead.

I woke up the next morning with my heart racing, and sunlight burning my eyelids, and birds shrieking outside. My eyes peeled open, and I complained throwing my shoes at the annoyance. Until I remembered I hadn't taken my shoes off the night before. Taking a deep breath and rubbing the spot on the side of my pelvic bone, I sat up.

It was only then I noted the room I was in. First was the bed, the comforter was a navy blue colour, with two pillows at the top. Luckily, my shoes didn't cause any dirt of grime to get on the bed.

Then I noticed the simplicity of the room, a dark wood dresser was pushed to one side, with a familiar looking sword on the wall on a shelf. I also noticed Cam had put my bag next to the bed, which I smiled at. It was kind of Cam to do so and give up his room.

Although, I looked back at the sword. Why did it look so familiar? I realized who owned the sword, as soon as the bedroom door opened. A shriek flew from my lips in surprise as Jax walked in with only a towel around his waist.

"What the fuck?" I snapped.

He looked over at me, then rolled his eyes, "I'm getting my clothes. Go back to bed."

"I didn't realize this was your room," I said honestly.

He shrugged, not responding as he pulled open the dresser. He seemed to pick through his clothing, and taking his damn time with it too. I sighed loudly with annoyance and turned my attention to the window. Curtains covered the window, but with the light colour it still allowed the sun to leak through.

"If you're not going back to sleep then get up. We can start training now."

I groaned at that. It seemed this day was going to be a hard one. He didn't bat me an eye nor another word as he took his clothing and left the room. Damn it, I rolled out of the bed and pulled off my shoes before taking a step into the hall.

"Cici left these for you," Jax said walking out of the other room – which I assumed was Cam's, and handed me a large, pink purse.

Before I could thank him, he was off down the hall and into the living room. Taking the bag, I stepped into the bathroom and opened its contents. A pile of clothing among a deodorant, a scented body spray, body lotion, clean panties and bras, as well as a package of pads and a pack of tampons. Blushing, I was grateful for the items.

After a quick shower, and changing into a pair of black jean shorts, a black tank top and a leather belt, I brushed my hair quickly before tying it back and out of my face. My green eyes now were brighter and with the dirt out of my hair, my brown hair was definitely lighter. Even after only a day I was looking so much happier.

I left the bathroom, then placed the pink purse in the room beside my own bag before adorning my knife, my boots, my two thin knives in my back pockets and slipped my sweater on before shoving my glock into its pocket. After throwing on my shoes I walked into the living room where an apple was thrown towards me.

I yelped, catching it just barely. Jax stared at me with a rose eyebrow, I flashed him my middle finger. He merely rolled his eyes, biting into his own apple.

"Good morning Mira, hey Jax," Cam yawned padding down the hall and into the kitchen.

I smiled at him, biting into my apple. Jax grunted like the savage he was.

"Apparently, there's a zom caught in between the fence and a tree again just past the west side. Did you want any flowers for Flynn?" Jax questioned.

I looked over at Cam, who blushed deeply and laughed nervously.

"Yeah, mint leaves," Cam replied.

Herbs then? Well, it did make sense. With the whole virus ending the world, prescriptions were in short supply. Even if you made it to a doctor office or a pharmacy it would have most likely been raided years ago. The only upside to all this was, whatever the virus was seemed to have gotten rid of all diseases.

"Hey, stop standing around let's go," Jax barked, jolting me out of my thoughts.

I sent him a glare for his rudeness, but said nothing. I was more interested in exactly what we would be doing and how things were run around this town. I followed him out the door, taking note he seemed to have gone back into the room for his sword which now hung at his waist.

It was different walking with Jax through the town. For one, no one spoke greetings to him. He did instead, receive bright smiles, or respectful nods – all that he seemed to ignore. My eyes watched his face. It revealed nothing however, the softness in those hazel eyes, perhaps he wasn't as heartless as he seemed.

We reached the tent that lay just before the gate and I prayed Landon would be in the tent skinning children; however as we walked towards the gate and passed the tent I realized I wasn't so lucky. The brute was leaning against the iron bars, with his arms crossed as he talked to one of the guards.

Clicking my tongue in annoyance, I could feel Jax glance at me but say nothing. As we reached the gate, it seemed around us everyone grew silent as Landon's eyes narrowed on me.

"Alana let her stay as your bitch?" Landon snickered.

The strength I held within me not to lunge across the space between us and murder him was massive. Knowing he wasn't worth the breath to speak, I merely stood silently behind Jax, waiting for the gates to be open.

"Alana prefers people to stay rather than go. We're heading to the west fences out at the apple trees, move," Jax replied walking over to the man and pushing him gently aside.

Landon grunted, waving his hand towards two other guards – who moved to open the gate. I followed behind Jax, glancing over at Landon whose dirt coloured eyes seemed to be locked on me. I focused my attention on the gate then, and held my chin up with pride, I refused to be degraded with this piece of scum.

With the gate open, not another word was muttered as Jax and I moved through and into the dead world around the town. I shivered slightly, spotting a zom in the distance stumbling towards the town. No doubt with the noise, and the lights zoms were easily attracted however with their manpower I'm sure they rarely had problems.

"Keep up kitten," Jax grunted, as we kept a distance from the fence but walked along it towards the west.

I nodded, keeping my guard up and my eyes constantly skittering around. It would be a waste to ruin what I had going on now. I could make a life for myself without fear, and in safety with other living people. I had a chance at having a family, and falling in love. My heart fluttered foolishly at that thought.

We walked for about a mile, until we reached the corner of the fence. I could spot the glisten of silver easily through the bright sky. Despite, the thick, natural apple orchard now fanned out around us. A disgruntled moan cut through the trees, instantly I brought my knife out and hunched my shoulders slightly.

Children screaming and giggling joined in and I looked over at Jax confused. His eyes, were trained on the fence. I followed his gaze, inside the fence a group of about four children seemed to be focused on poking a large stick through the fence at something.

"Hey!" Instantly they shrieked at Jax's booming voice.

I scurried closer to the man, and quickly spotted what they had been poking at. There seemed to be a tree, that had grown close enough to the fence that its thick trunk brushed the iron, a zom seemed to have caught stuck in that inch wide gap.

"Sorry Jax, he's squishy," giggled one of the kids.

My eyes widened, the zom seemed to have come from the river which cut through the orchard and past the fence into town. Its body was bloated, with pudgy, sagging flesh and budging eyes. Other than that, the zom didn't seem to have any other distorted features.

"And so will you be if you don't scurry home – all of you," Jax scolded, his words softened towards the children.

They shrieked in delight and with a giggle, the stick was dropped and they were racing away from the fence. My jaw opened slightly in shock at that conversation. How could a man be so rude and crude, yet so soft?

"Brats," Jax chuckled deeply, under his breath.

I could feel a blush on my face as his mouth tugged into a small smile. With the sunlight playing across his goldish locks, and a sudden twinkle in those hazel eyes I realized how handsome he looked when he smiled.

His face tilted towards me, then the smile was replaced with a scold, and those twinkling eyes turned to stone. He glared at me for a hot second, then pulled his sword out and shoved it into the zoms head. I gasped watching it twitch once, then grow slack.

"You get to move it out of the fence," he told me pulling his sword away.

I groaned watching the black sludge blood pour out of his head like tar, "why me?"

"Because you don't know where the mint grows. Hurry up," was his only reply as he sauntered away.

I flipped his retreating figure off feeling better about myself. However, I didn't move towards the corpse just yet. Instead, I watched him move through the trees, down the river. The glistening of water caught my eye and I moved slightly for a better view.

My eyes widened, and I couldn't help the tears that began to drip down my face.

"We need to move," I told Dad urgently.

I could hear the moans moving up the cliff and soon, we'd have nowhere to go but off the cliff. Dad however, didn't seemed worried as he shushed me. I turned, to see him glancing off the cliff – and walked over. Below, a small pool of water – a pond – glistened in the sunlight. Upon the surface, a family of ducks wadded the water peacefully.

"If we move, they'll die," I whispered quietly.

He looked back at me, then sighed.

"If we don't, we'll die."

How long ago had it been since we visited that pond together? Since we had a moment in such hell? Long before dad died. I swallowed the lump in my throat, then wiped my face free of tears. Foolish of me to let such thoughts plague my mind.

Instead, I turned my attention to the corpse. Grumbling complaints under my breath I walked over and shoved my boot towards his body. It slumped free, onto the ground. I moved around the tree and grabbed the faded, stained hoodie it wore and pulled. It didn't budge.

Cursing under my breath, and moving onto the other side I got onto my knees and digging my heels into the ground. With my palms pushing against the body, it moved a few inches before a loud pop sounded. His flesh gave away, and my hands flew into his body.

The cold, gooey insides surrounded my hands and fingers and I bit my tongue to keep from retching. Pulling my hands away and deciding to give up, I wiped my now drenched hands on the grass.

I had been so distracted I hadn't heard the moan so loudly in front of me. My head jolted up, just in time to have my foot slip under a fallen apple – which saved my throat. Falling backwards, I assessed the new moving zom.

It seemed to have been a woman at one point, in what was probably a beautiful blue sundress at one point. Now, the sundress was ripped down the front, exposing large breasts and her arms seemed to have been ripped off. Against her pale skin, black veins danced across her skin like all the zoms.

The zom lunged towards me off balance, swinging her torso wildly. I brought my foot up, kicking her backwards feeling rage course through my body. How dare such disgrace ruin these parts? How many ducks had she eaten before now? I let out a snarl of breathe, rolling from my back onto my feet my hand reaching for my knife.

And with a sudden rage I reacted. Lunging at the zom, knocking us both down. My head slammed onto the ground beside her own head and I brought my arm up to block my face from her gnawing teeth.

My fingers moved bringing my wrist down, and slamming my blade into her forehead. Not before, her mouth latched around my arm. Gasping in pain, fear spiked through me. I would be in trouble if her teeth got past my sweater.

Getting to my feet, I could hear leaves rustle behind me and of course I tensed, swinging around. A hand caught my wrist as I yelped startled. Rich, red blood dripped down my fingers and onto the ground. Cold hazel eyes stared at me, with a gun pointed to my head.

"You're bit."
