   One Hundred Three |

I had never considered getting married, and I barely knew what that meant. When I was younger, my mother had explained that when two people love each other, they tie their souls together for the rest of their life. I thought it was silly considering the end of the world, and yet when Sebastian brought it up I couldn't help the way my breath pitched in excitement. My heart beats speeding up, and I felt a flutter deep within my stomach.

He tilted his head, "Think about it Love. We can get married, act like star cross lovers, or whatever, and use that as a ploy to keep in touch with each other, not to mention using the ploy of a wedding to keep in touch with Lisa and Oliver."

My heart dropped slightly as if somehow knowing the wedding was a sham disappointed me. My cheeks heated up as I realized this silly fairy tail illusion I had of weddings was stupid and childish. We were living in a world which struggled to survive, and yet my mind instantly went to the stupid notions of true love and being wed.

"R-Right," I coughed nervously, "Sure."

Sebastian leaned back, confusion sparking in those ruby eyes, "Love, I'm not ever going to make you do something you don't want to do, we don't have to get married to trick these people. We can come up with something else."

"No, no," I replied, shaking my head, "I'm fine with that I just, it's not what I expected."

He sighed softly, "I know and I'm sorry. I'm not a good man, I'm not the man you should have to be around let alone marry. But I am your loyal dog, to the very end of my life I promise you that. And this plan I'm positive will work."

Tears brimmed in my eyes, "Oh Sebastian..."

It hurt knowing how little he thought about himself but I understood it. Maxwell treated him like an animal all his life, he made him to horrible things while treating him horribly. It hurt my heart that he didn't deem himself worthy of me. Me of all people.

"Sebastian," I breathed slowly, leaning forward to grab his face with my hands, "You are perfect. And smart, and beautiful, I would be lucky to spend the rest of my life with you."

His lips twitched with amusement, "Ey Love does that mean you'll marry me?"

"Yes you idiot," I replied feeling cheeky, "I'll marry you."

Then before my bravo confidence could disappear, I pressed my lips to his for a brief moment before pulling away. He froze, his eyes wide with shock as he stared at me. No doubt wondering if Zero had returned. I bit my lip to hide a smile, watching as he then relaxed realizing this wasn't Zero's raw, primal desire but in fact me.

"And maybe one day we'll make the marriage real," I giggled.

He blinked, "W-Wait love you—"

"Eyah, Red eyes back to work!" Sonar called again.

Sebastian blinked, looking back and forth from me to the old man.

"You'd better go," I giggled.

His familiar smirk pulled onto his face, "You're right. I gotta find you a ring. I'll see you later love, that I promise you. This bloody conversation isn't over."

I laughed as he walked away leaving me with a wink. As he left, Sonar walked over to me, Scar nestled against his neck. He hummed lowly, watching as Sebastian walked away, his face void of any emotions. I wondered how much of that he had heard, would he tell the council our plans of a sham wedding?

"He's not going to find a ring on the island," he then said slowly, "Such items are only found on land and jewelry sells fast around here."

I looked at him with surprise, "I thought this island ran off communism?"

The old man snickered at that, "Money isn't the only tool for trade. An' how the hell you know what communism? We're you like seven when the Dead Zone came to existence?"

I shoved my chin up with pride, "I read a book."

"Well, considering your shitty bath from the book of mine you read," he snickered, "I'll guess you didn't actually learn much. Scar's going to be your boss today, I got shit to do."

At his words, Scar flew onto the table.

"Wait I have a question," I said quickly, "You said the island uses birds for communication, why don't you communicate with the other thriving settlements?"

His eyes darkened, "That's a question that'll get you killed."

"Why?" I demanded, "If the settlements worked together there'd be a high chance of survival. The island could get more resources. More information about the world."

"And more chance of losing birds. More chance of other settlements finding out about us and then trying to take over the island," he replied, "Not to mention how the council would react to the idea of losing a piece of control. That would be sending years of hard work and one of our biggest resources."

I frowned in annoyance, "So the council's scared."

He smirked, "Careful kid, that will get you killed."

Then he walked off, just as Ophelia walked up the driveway towards us. Today she was wearing her signature tight bun, with a pair of tight, black pants and a black tank top. I tilted my head as she watched him go, confusing setting on her face.

"Where's he off to?" she asked.

I shrugged, "Who knows. Have you seen Oliver yet?"

Scar hopped across the table before flying onto her shoulder. She smiled lightly, petting the large Raven. I could see pain flash in her eyes as I asked and while it made me slightly regret her question, I knew I wanted to know.

"I'm not allowed," she said simply.

My eyes rolled as I grew angry, "Of course not. I'm sure you don't even want to see him. Didn't you ditch him without a word years ago?"

She stopped petting Scar, anger growing on her face, "Didn't you ditch every town you've ever been when you came here?"

We glared hotly at each other.

Scar flew back to the table, "Bath! Bath!"

I blinked, looking at the smart bird, "Yeah, yeah."

So, we went back to work, slowly.

"I didn't want to leave Oliver," she then whispered, We were kids Mira. Seventeen? They found us once before and said they always had a team around us. We were immune, they couldn't let us live alone. But they knew if they tried to take us, we'd always be trying to escape. That wouldn't work for them."

I nodded, they had tried the same with me.

"But then we were attacked, and Oliver was hurt. So in trade for supplies, I went with them. Every year they'd send a bird after that, carrying supplies and dropping them at that ranger tower. I never stopped caring for him," she said turning to me, her eyes fierce, "I never stopped fighting for him."

I sighed softly, feeling sightly bad for judging her so harshly, "He's here now. Why can't you see him? I'm sure he wants to see you."

She smiled weakly, "The same reason you can't see your friends."

That made me see red, "Ok, yeah fuck that. Take me to the council."

"What?" she gasped, "What the fuck do you mean?"

I shrugged, "Just what I said."

"You can't just demand to see the council," she whispered nervously.

I balled my fist, "Try me."
