"That's it?" I repeated for the eighth time.

Sebastian looked over at me, "Love, it's not gonna get any better the longer you stare at it. How about we get out of the van and walk over. Maybe a magical boat will appear."

I rolled my eyes, "Ha ha."

When we rolled up to the pier we found a large fence around the pier. I slipped out of the van very quickly, to pull open the gates then closed the gates when the van pulled in. It was simple really, just a simple and quick maneuver while surrounded by a horde of zombies.

"How's the bite?" he asked softly.

I flinched, "Damn it Seb, I was inner monologuing."

"With Zero? Well, it seems like you're healing quickly. No bite side effects?"

It was strange, ever since Zero was in control, I didn't feel any negative effects from zombie bites. Actually, I was only bitten by accident I think. My arm just fell into the mouth of a zombie and it randomly bit down. Hell, I'm pretty sure the zombie spat out my flesh.

Rudely I might add.

"No, I'm fine," I whispered.

In the back of the van someone banged on the wall. No doubt wondering why we were just parked here without moving. Sebastian glanced at me before sliding out. I followed suit, and we went around back of the van and opened the door. Oliver and Lisa slid out along with Owl.

"Where the fuck are we?" Lisa demanded.

I waved my hand towards the port, "Ta da?"

"You're joking," she seethed, "Fuck! What are we going to do now?"

Oliver tilted his head, "Ophelia isn't here?"

"Don't worry," I said with a smile, "We'll find her."

Sebastian began walking towards the pier. Lisa and I traded looks before following after him. At the end of the pier was a small motar boat roped up. I looked towards the distance, where there was an outline of an island.

"Hey," Sebastian said wrapping an arm around my waist, "Look."

I nodded, "Maybe we should take the boat and check it out?"

"No," he corrected, "Not the mission. Just, look. Listen. Isn't it peaceful?"

Glancing at him I sighed. Breathing in the seaweed air, the breeze of cold coming off the water. Even with the zombies groaning and moaning behind that fence, he was right. It was nice. I closed my eye, tuning out the zombies, extremely aware of his arm around my waist. Looking back at him a smiled slightly.

"I can almost imagine a world without all the zombies," I said, "Maybe in the world I'd even ask you out. On a real date and everything. Actually, I'd probably be dead from cancer but if there was no zombies and no cancer."

He smirked confidently, "So I just gotta end the zombie plague then you'll go on a date with me? I accept the challenge!"

I couldn't help but laugh at that, "You're dumb."

"Are we going to head to the island?" Lisa asked.

"Can you drive a boat?" I sighed.

"So we're not going to check out the island," she frowned.

Oliver rose his hand, "I'd like to check the island for Ophelia."

"No, I get that. But how would we get to the island?"

Lisa shrugged, "Can we swim?"

"Really. You want to swim."

"Owl cannot swim."

I groaned in frustration, before our argument was cut off by a loud engine noise. Slowly, I turned, to see Sebastian sitting in the boat at the engine thing. My heart throbbed as I bit my lip nervously. He looked...sinful. Deliciously sinful.

"Get in love," he winked.

I let out a breath of air, my heart combusting as I could feel drool practically dripping down my chin. Blinking back to reality, I ignored my heated cheeks and moved to get into the boat. It shook as I stepped on, Sebastian's hand moving out to steady me.

"Are you going to help us in or is Mira special," Lisa teased.

I rolled my eyes as they got in. Then we were off, heading towards the island. I enjoyed the spray of water against my arms as we moved along the water. However, the closer we got to the island, the more my enjoyment disappeared.

"Hey guys," I said in realization, "Why was this boat full of gas and in perfect condition? Isn't that you know, weird or something?"

Lisa didn't tear her gaze away from the island, "As weird as that island having power?"

"What?" Sebastian called over the sound of the engine.

I turned my head to tell him to cut the engine but it was too late, as we pulled up to the island. Lisa screamed, and suddenly there was loud bangs. Or maybe pops would be more specific. Pain burst throughout my body as I looked around.

Bzz.

A buzzing in my ear. My body was pitching forward.

Bzzzz.

Sebastian wasn't moving, his body drenched in red for some reason.

"Sebastian?" I think I whispered.

Bzzzzz.

I stood up, struggling to stand on shaking legs. My gaze was distorted. Lisa was drenched in the same red. Oliver too. Owl didn't move. I looked up towards the island. My head tilting as I watched people in armored suits coming out from the trees. Guns rose.

My body jerked, as I looked down.

Oh.

They shot us.

I was suddenly falling from the boat. Strange, I couldn't feel the water and yet I couldn't breathe. Was that because I was shot or was that because of the water? Was I even in water? My vision failed, and suddenly I couldn't think.

Darkness engulfed me.

.

Mira.

.

Get up!

.

Damn it get up!

.

I could hear a voice in my head.

They're going to kill you.

.

Was that Zero?

I struggled against my unconscious. A slow spread of pain began to seep throughout my body. My eyes suddenly snapped open as a horrible scream tore from my lips. My body was unable to move, as I found myself strapped down on a table, tubes and wires connected to my body. My friends. They were shot too.

"Hey!" I screamed, pulling against the fucking restraints.

Anger boiled through my veins. I swear to fucking god if they killed my friends I wore tear down this entire fucking place. Whatever this place was.

"Hey you son of a bitch!" I snarled, "Where are my friends?"

The door opened, and a ebony woman dressed in a long white dress, wearing a lab coat. It made me laugh bitterly, these fuckers were the same as Maxwell's fucked up little city. I watched the woman carefully, wanting nothing more than to smash her skull open but I needed answers.

"Where are my friends?" I demanded.

She rolled her eyes, "You are not in the position to speak in such a manor. My name is Dr. Lilith Brown, we are Bio-Gen. You are the long lost subject zero, hidden by Dr. Jason Brooks and his selfish needs."

"You will not talk shit about my dad," I snapped.

She held up a needle, "Your father and Bio-Gen had a contract. He violated that contract and took our only control subject of the Lyssasolanum strain and lost it into this world. Because of him, billion died."

I chuckled at that bitterly, "Bio-Gen should have never wanted to make a fucking virus in the first place, not to mention the virus was released because you idiots were too stupid to do your own fucking research. Did you know that research Maxwell gave you was stolen from my father? Why would you even release the virus?"

"Bio-Gen will not be taking questions," she hummed, injecting the needle into my arm, "You are not a person. You are a test subject."

I lashed out against the restraints, "Fuck you!"

"Your heart levels are elevated, I've given you a sedative," she said, "However you do seem surprised. Perhaps you think we're heartless. Bio-Gen wanted peace. A virus would unite the world, we would have thrived at the loss of others."

"You think that would work?" I gasped, "For scientists and doctors you're fucking stupid. The countries would have competed for resources, they would look for someone to blame and blame each other. Not to mention the people who would rebel against the government, conspiracy would spread. Each divided country would divide further among them. Your science doesn't take humanity into account."

She paused, "Well now we shall never know."

"No! Because you killed the world!" I yelled, "Where are my friends?"

"The woman is in the hospital, she was shot in the shoulder. The two men have already been release and are currently being emerged into our way of life. The cat has been taken to a holding cell until we can deem it not a threat," she said, "While they are both immune, our focus is more in the mutation of the virus. Not a vaccine."

"You want to control the virus?" I whispered in horror.

She nodded, "Our initial attempt was to make a vaccine then profit of that. However, now because the population of the infected is so high, our main goal is control."

"Why tell me all this?" I demanded, "So you can keep me here? Locking in this room until you're done all your stupid tests? I won't be a test subject."

She hummed, "While you are a test subject, you are also uncontrollable. We cannot contain you with fear and force, instead we wish for your full co-operation."

"Why would I do that?"

"Because if you don't you and your friends will just return back to the Dead Zone. They will continue to die until you have no others to protect. At the end of the day you will always survive, because you are the virus and the virus will always win at the end of this. We have a community here, we are surviving, here your friends can too," she said simply.

I looked away, realizing she was right, "If I agree will you let me out of this?"

"Eventually," she replied, pulling out another needle.

I took a breath knowing there was no other way, "T-This control you want over them, c-can you also make a cure? I will help you if you make me a cure."

She grew silent before nodding, "Then we have an agreement. Hopefully you are more trustworthy than your father."

Then she left, as a tiredness grew over me.

They're not going to let you have a moment alone. They will keep you drugged and sleeping until they can babysit you and sway your mind, Zero said quickly.

Probably.
