TEASER:

I mumbled a hello to the driver, noticing first how gorgeous he was then noticing his strikingly pretty silver eyes. He asked me to confirm the address of my destination and I rambled the nursing home off as my attention drifted to my phone.

I shot Yuma a quick message that I'd see her after her morning classes with big news and she agreed. Of course she'd be ecstatic that I had finally hit this milestone in my life. If I didn't tell her now, I'm sure she'd whack me later.

"Do you attend the university?" The driver then asked as we drove away from the campus.

"Yes, I'm going into my second year," I replied politely with a smile.

He nodded, glancing at me through the mirror.

"Ms. Bishop, did you know you have the same last name of a witch?" he said after a while.

My eyes widened, as a cold shiver went down my spine. Then, pursing my lips I narrowed my eyes. Was the man trying to insult me? He didn't even know me, or maybe he wasn't the best at socializing.

"Will we be arriving soon?" I asked instead.

I prayed he didn't turn out to be crazy or anything like that. To my surprise, the man's head tilted back and he let out a rich, musical laugh. It brought an unwelcome warm blush to my cheeks and my gaze averted out the window as the street blurred by.

"Didn't mean to make you uncomfortable, just a bit of a mythology man," he hummed.

I relaxed back into the car seat and smiled nervously feeling a bit silly. With the last name Bishop, people always talked about either chess or those Salem witch trials. They'd have no idea that I was related to Elizabeth Bishop that poor woman who died in those trails. If it hadn't have been for her secret daughter my blood line would have disappeared entirely.

But again, all that was just stories buried in the past. Long, long ago.

"It's ok, just caught me off guard," I replied back politely.

He nodded, his copper eyes flickering from the road then back to me in the mirror, "well then, how about it? Are you a mythology woman?"

Again, he caught me off guard. My eyes widened, not knowing how to respond. I didn't even know what exactly he was getting at – lucky for me the car began to slow. My mouth closed and I knew I wouldn't be having any more weird conversations with him. Just as we pulled up to the home Gramma lived in.

"We are here," he said still holding an amused smirk on his face.

Annoyed at him, I pushed the door open and slipped out into the warm weather with the sun heating my face. Without caring about offending him with rude behaviour I walked towards the house.

Behind me the car took off, just as my phone beeped. My fingers stretched to pull it out and seeing the notification my blood turned to ice as my lungs caught in my throat as fear filled me.

Uber: Just arrived at starting destination.
