Zero~

We were running.

Through this maze of tunnels that seemed to run under the Wolf Cove. As we ran Lisa explained it, the reason of these tunnels. Apparently long ago when wolves still walked this land, the people who cared for the wolves would use this tunnel to drop off extra carnage in the winter to keep the wolves fed.

I wasn't listening, my mind was stuck on Cameron. Alpha, Luna.

Were they ok now? Or had they all been slaughtered.

I breathed out slowly, as I tried yet again to switch with Mira. She wasn't having it and I wondered if it was too late. I wasn't sure, but I did know I needed her to come back and soon. Never did I expect her emotions to form into mine—I was a virus, I wasn't supposed to have any emotions. And yet still, Mira had placed shackles upon my potential and I was caged yet again.

"The exits over there," Lisa said.

I looked forward, sure enough there was a light at the end of the tunnel that was not her lantern. Instead, it was a metal chain linked door. Locked from the outside. Sebastian snickered, making a joke about Lisa's leadership skills. It was light hearted, he was trying to soften the dark mood, like he always was.

"Shut up," Lisa snapped, "I'll just shoot it."

Sebastian smirked, "How about I melt it? It'd look cooler."

I blinked, looking between them. Their human displays, it was giving me a headache. So, instead of listening to them bicker, I simply marched past them before allowing my power to throb in my veins. Lifting my foot, I kicked the door. It shot off, landing a few feet away.

Sebastian whistled, "Or we could do that."

Lisa frowned, "So who is this chick?"

I blinked, "How does everyone know I'm not Mira?"

"Because you're not acting like Mira," Lisa replied, "And you have this mood to you. It's scary, dark and powerful. Not to mention back in the warehouse you seemed non-consensually upset. I'm guessing you're the voice in her head? So when's Mira coming back?"

I frowned, "I don't know. I've tried."

Sebastian paused, his eyes wide, "Wait. What do you mean?"

"I mean she won't come back!" I growled in frustration.

Lisa stepped between us, "What the fuck have I missed?"

Sebastian opened his mouth to answer when a low growl suddenly cut through the air. We all paused, confusion filling me. As if in a slow motion moment, we turned. To the left of the tunnel and nestled between the trees stood three wild dogs. Normally, that wouldn't be an issue, but these dogs were all turned.

"H-How are they travelling together?" Lisa gasped softly.

Sebastian cursed softly, "It's Barron. He must have sent dogs to track us."

I tilted my head, worried for Lisa. Hell, I was worried for Sebastian too. If these dogs were turned, they won't even go for me. That was already seen with human zombies. I was simply too much like them. But if they reached Sebastian, they'd tear him apart faster than his blood could react and Lisa certainly had no chance.

Come on Mira! Your friends need you. I can't fight them, they'd just avoid me. You can fight them. You're a human, the dogs would fight you.

There was no responds.

"Damn it!" I snarled, "Stop being such a fucking bitch!"

Sebastian glanced my way, I didn't care. I was sick of her life.

"T-There's a ranger tower a few hundred feet away," Lisa whispered.

I nodded, we'd have to run for it.

"I'll distract them," Sebastian said suddenly, "You two run and don't look back."

I gasped softly, my chest hurting, "No. T-That's stupid."

Lisa bit her lip, "Damnit, you'd better come back."

I could feel my eyes bulging, "W-What? No! This is insane!"

The dogs snarled, reminding us of their audience. We were out of time. Lisa grabbed my hand, and suddenly we were running. I let out a cry, stumbling as I looked back. The dogs had wasted no time descending upon him. I could see their teeth as they pounced, I could smell the blood stain the air. Then Lisa was yanking my arm again, and we were back to running.

We dodged the trees, my legs burning as we ran. There was a growl behind us and I could feel my heart sinking. We were out of time, and one of the dogs didn't go after Sebastian. Or he was dead, and it only took two dogs to finish the job. Hot tears dripped down my face, the mighty wooden tower was so close now.

And yet so far.

"Mira I'll hold it off, you have to run ahead," Lisa suddenly said, panting hard.

I shook my head, "What is the point if everyone just dies?"

She smirked, "The point is you get to live."

Her words shocked me. W-Was this what Mira fought for all this time? Right now I didn't feel like preserving my own life. Instead I wanted to protect theirs, even if it meant I died. Even if it meant I didn't get the chance to kill Eric. I understood it now, there was no point in fighting if all those around me perished.

"No," I said firmly, "We fight together."

She nodded, her fingers tightening around her gun. Then we turned, behind us was not one wild dog, but four. We had been tricked, I realized. I'm sure whoever Barron was, he knew we'd split off, and so he planned accordingly.

"Fuck," I whispered.

Lisa aimed her gun, "I'll take the two on the left, you take the two on the right?"

I nodded.

The dogs lunged forward, their eyes pure red, their veins black and their fur matted, even missing chunks. I could hear Lisa firing her gun, the shots meant nothing if she didn't hit them in the head and yet, such a small moving target.

My fingers grasped my hilt tighter as I moved. Alpha was right, I did have a different fighting style than Mira, so I had to use that. I needed to win, nothing else mattered. Letting out a roar, the nearest dog attempted to dance around me, they were all after Lisa, I realized.

Of course, they were, she was the only human here.

"Not today," I snarled.

As it's body moved past me, I swung, my blade moving through it's skull like butter. Grinning, I dug my blade into the ground as deep as it could go. When the other dog moved towards her, I pulled on the hilt, pushing my weight up before using the momentum to kick the dog back. It flew through the air before slamming into the tree.

But that only slowed it for a second. I pushed up, my foot balancing my body on the sword before I pushed off. My fingers grabbed the dog by it's throat and for a brief moment it's eyes looked into mine. It seemed confused. That didn't last long before I slammed it's snout into the tree. Then again. And again.

Until it's black blood was splattered on everything, including my own skin.

I dropped the dead creature before turning to Lisa. Relief filled my chest, she was ok, and the dogs after her were dead. I smiled slightly, when a blur moved out of the corner of my eye. Her eyes widen. There was a fifth dog!

"Lisa!" The scream ripped from my lips in pure horror.

It was Mira. She had sparked to scream.

She gasped, the dog landing on her chest, the two were pushed back into the ground.

Out of nowhere, something else emerged through the trees. I let out a gasp, a large cat with spots darting forward. It slammed into the dog, and the two went tumbling. I rushed over to Lisa's side but my eyes couldn't leave the cat. It let out a long battle cry before biting into it's throat. The dog stilled, then died.

"M-Mira," Lisa breathed softly.

I looked down, my heart dropping, a prominent bite on her shoulder.

"N-No," I sobbed.
