Scared.

I felt scared.

Scared of how good his lips felt on mine. How delicious his scent was, how soft the skin of his hands felt on my cheeks.

But as our lips closed around one another, the thing I was scared the most was what this kiss was doing to my heart.

I barely heard anything apart from the thumping of my heartbeats. My breathing becoming harder, little sounds escaping my mouth uncontrollably.

Luca opened my mouth with his tongue, playing with mine gently. He nibbled my lips in a way that made my head feel lighter.

He lowered his hands to my waist, holding me tight against him. Our chests pressing against one another so hard that we could almost become one.

I pulled apart out of breath, and stared at his eyes for a moment. Both of us panting hard, his eyes searching mine, looking for a sign that I would be regretting this.

Before he could find it, I tiptoed and approached our lips once again, taking his face between my hands.

We moved quickly, I walked backwards as he pushed me into the room, the back of my legs suddenly meeting the mattress. He took off my shirt, I took off his. The twins soccer shirts lying now on the floor.

Luca glanced down at my chest, kissing the narrow trail between my boobs. I moaned before he lowered himself with me, still kissing me as we both lay down.

His hands ran down my body, caressing the bare skin of my thighs that wasn't covered by the soccer shorts.

I couldn't remember the last time someone touched me like this. Sweet but rough at the same time, aggressive but passionate.

Luca's mouth travelled down my neck, nipping and sucking on it. I let a louder moan escape my mouth and he glanced up at me, a little smirk on his face.

My face was hot, so hot my eyelids felt heavy.

That wasn't the only place that was hot.

Luca's fingers travelled up the side of my body, stroking the skin on my waist, reaching up my belly button.

I felt like burning. His lips sealed mine again.

The last time I felt like this, I was with Max.

I liked it rough, there was no use in denying it. Max knew it and he used it to show his power over mine. To show who had the last word in our relationship, to demonstrate that he was on top of me, in every sense of the words.

Luca's body felt so similar to Max. So powerful. He also liked to guide the situation. His kisses were hard, what drove me crazy. The pressure of his body on top of mine suffocating me, making me wet between my legs.

It felt so familiar that I felt like I was losing my breath.

Literally.

I couldn't breathe. His fingers were getting under the waistband of my underwear, barely touching the skin of my most intimate parts.

I wasn't ready to be controlled.

No. It's not that I wasn't ready, I just didn't want to be controlled again. I wanted to have sex with someone and feel like I was doing things because I wanted to, not because they were making me do them.

If a guy clenched his fingers around my neck, I needed it to be because I wanted it, not because I just accepted it.

Luca's knee parted my legs and I closed them hard, pushing his chest off mine.

I took a big gulp of air once his lips pulled away from mine. We both panted heavily, staring at one another.

"I'm sorry, I was a little harsh, did I-"

"I can't do this, Luca." I got up from the bed quickly, suddenly feeling really embarrassed. I took one of the shirts and put it on quickly. My face was still burning up so I placed my hands on both sides of it. I glanced at Luca once again, whose expression showed that he was a little confused, yet it was like he knew everything that was going on inside my head. "I'm not ready for... I just-"

"It's okay." Luca cut me off. He got up too and put on his shirt slowly. I tried not to stare at his muscles clenching as he did so. He then nodded at the door, scratching the back of his neck. "Do you wanna go downstairs?"

I shook my head. "I wanna go home."

He sighed, his eyes looking a little hurt.

Shit, he shouldn't have kissed me. I didn't wanna hurt him, why did he have to do it?

We were so well together. Would this change a thing between us? We shouldn't have ruined our friendship because of a little attraction we could have for one another.

"I'll call an uber."

When we arrived downstairs, -I swear it was the most uncomfortable walk in my life- we found Aiden, who was just about to come upstairs.

"Hey! Where were you? Did you get lost?" He asked meeting my eyes amused.

I glanced at Luca, who was typing on his phone distractedly, a little frown between his eyebrows. "Yeah."

My matching friend still didn't look up from his phone when he spoke. "We're going home, you wanna come?"

Aiden cocked his head confused then looked around the party, twisting his mouth. "Okay."

"There's gonna be an Uber outside in 10 minutes."

"Cool." Aiden nodded slowly hiding his lower lip inside his mouth. "Hey, munchkin. How does pizza sounds right now?" He asked approaching me, wrapping an arm around my shoulders.

"Mouthwatering." I replied honestly.

He laughed throwing his head back as he guided me towards the front door, Luca following us silently.

What was he thinking about? Was he mad because I stopped him?

Aiden kept talking. "I know a place just a few minutes away from my cousin's place. What do you say we go and grab some pizzas?"

We stopped outside the house and I glanced back at Luca. "Do- do you want pizza, Luca?"

He gave me a tight smile and shook his head. "No, thanks. I'm a little tired, I think I'll go straight to bed."

As I mentioned other times before, alcohol made Luca calmer. What was fine, don't get me wrong, but now he wasn't his self at all. Not his sober side, not his drunk side either.

He was quiet and evasive.

The saddest part was that it was my fault.

"Do you want to hear a funny story?" Asked Aiden totally oblivious of the tension in the air.

I nodded my head glancing up at him. Anything better than staying here in silence.

"I have a crazy group of friends, okay? Like real crazy. I lost a bet and had to jump from a balcony to a swimming pool in the backyard."

"Oh my god." I opened my eyes a little wider. "That's so dangerous."

Luca rolled his eyes coming beside me as if he had already listened to this story a million times.

"I know, but that's not the worst thing. I had to do it naked."

"Fully naked?"

"Uh-huh." He nodded with a smirk. "Everything went pretty smooth surprisingly, but just when I resurfaced from the water, I heard the sirens."

"Cops." I whispered with a gasp.

"Yeah." He laughed. "Imagine my naked self running on the street being followed by the cops."

"Oh my god, Aiden. What did you do?"

"I knocked on someone's door and a really nice old lady let me wait inside till they went away."

"I don't find that story funny at all." I muttered with a frown.

I saw Luca glancing up from his phone at me, a little smile on his face.

Aiden laughed once again seeing my expression. Pinching my cheeks he approached his face. "You're so-"

"Uber's here."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At the pizza place, Aiden kept telling me stories about his friends. A girl even broke up with him because of them. I wasn't surprised.
I listened horrified to everything he told me. He had an unwanted tattoo on his butt, he got arrested two times and almost ended up paralyzed because of one of his little parkour games.
We were walking back Luca's apartment, Aiden's arm always wrapped around my shoulders.
"Come on, Riley. You've never done something crazy?"
Not that I can tell you.
I stopped and thought about it for a moment.
"I once got kicked out of class because I was using my phone."
He laughed hard as I opened the door in the hall with the key Luca gave us. "You're such a badass."
I smiled watching him and began walking up the stairs. It was just one floor. "I- I also bring my food to the movies."
"No way!" I didn't know if he was being sarcastic but I found it pretty savage if you asked me. The anxiety I got every time I got everything out from my bag was not a joke. "I can't believe you!" He laughed. "I'm standing beside the next John Dillinger!"
"Who?" I asked with a frown. I opened the front door and got in, Aiden behind me shaking his head amused.
"Doesn't matter. What else have you done, little demon?"
"Mhm. I don't know. I- I'm just tired, but I'm sure I have more. Just let me think about it and I'll tell you tomorrow."
Aiden gave me a big smile before embracing me into a bear hug, a kiss on the top of my head being the last contact before we both went to sleep.
"Sure, munchkin. Goodnight."
I yawned and rubbed my eye with my fist. "Goodnight, Aiden."
My heart started beating faster when I opened Luca's door slowly. He was asleep onto his side, his face towards my side of the bed. I let out a big breath. I really didn't want to talk or think about what happened tonight.
I changed into my pajamas in the bathroom, crawling slowly onto the bed afterwards, trying not to wake Luca up. I slipped under the covers and pulled them up my chest.
"Did you guys have fun?"
I jumped in fright and put a hand on my chest. "Shit, Luca. You scared me." I paused and sighed.
"I could hear you laughing from here."
"Yeah, we had fun."
"I'm glad." He turned around and stared at his side of the wall. "Goodnight, Riley." He whispered.
It was weird for me, not having any contact from him, since we slept the last three nights cuddling or touching in any kind of way. I guessed we were both really affectionate people. We needed contact, we liked it. We didn't deny it. I slept better like that, he seemed to do it too. And now he was so distant... I wanted to approach him and encircle him into my arms.
But I didn't. Maybe he needed that space.
"Goodnight, Luca. Sweet dreams."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I woke up early. Luca wasn't on the bed when I did. It was weird but I missed his wake up song in the morning.

Stretching up, I got out of bed and went to the bathroom. After doing my thing, I decided to go and look for him.

In the living room, Aiden was still asleep in the couch on his stomach. His mouth wide open, his arm hanging almost touching the floor.

I smiled watching him but it quickly faded once I saw Luca on the kitchen talking on the phone. My stomach twisted in knots nervously.

This is what was gonna be from now on?

He stopped the call and lifted his head up, his eyes meeting mine.

Clearing my throat, I went and grabbed a mug from one of the cabinets. "Who was it?"

"It was the real state agent who's dealing with my mom's house sale." He sighed. "There is a new buyer. He wants me to go and meet them."

"Oh." I stopped and looked at him cautiously. "I didn't know you were selling it."

"Yeah." He ran a hand through his close cropped hair. "I didn't want to live in that house anymore. Too many memories, you know?"

"I get it."

In my case, we stayed in my parents house since my sister and I were both really young and had nowhere else to live. The house now is actually the one where my sister is living with his family. It helped a lot since they couldn't afford a big family house to live.

"Do... do you wanna come with me?"

Shit. Did that mean he wanted to talk?

Don't be such a coward, Riley. You have to talk about it eventually.

I looked at him. His expression sad. "I don't wanna go alone."

"Of course, yeah." I put the mug in its place again. "Just let me change."

Apart from everything that could have happened between us, Luca was my friend. He had done things for me that not many people would do even if you knew them for years. He was an incredible person, and he needed me.

I squeezed his hand, placing a light kiss on his cheek before giving him a little smile and walking again towards his bedroom.

I didn't miss the way his lips curled up into a small smile, his eyes staring down the floor.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I don't like them." Luca announced me when we were alone in the backyard, giving time for the couple to see the house.
"Why?" I stretched my legs forward on the grass.
"I don't know. She's too... stiff, don't you think?" He bit his lips and played with a leaf in his hands. "And he uses too much cologne. That has to be illegal."
I laughed. "I don't know, Luca. I find them pretty normal. She's nice and I'm pretty sure they'll be good parents. She said something about being pregnant, didn't she?"
"Yeah."
"Don't you imagine a little kid running around in this house?"
Luca twisted his mouth and threw the leaf. He then stretched his arms leaning on them behind his back, our hands brushing against each other. "I guess. I remember how I used to play soccer with Ace. I liked it here."
"It's a nice backyard." I stated looking around.
"Yes, it is." He nodded.
I bit my lips and turned to look at him. I studied him for a moment. He was looking at the house intently, as if he was in pain. "Luca, what's wrong?"
He turned to meet my eyes and didn't hesitate before talking. "I just don't think I'll ever find the right people to live in here. This is my house, where I lived with my mom. Where I started walking, where we celebrated our Christmas holidays... I even had my first kiss in here. It's just... it's painful to say goodbye to all that. Even though it's also painful to be here. I don't know if that makes sense."
"It does." I nodded as I put my hand on top of his. "But you can't keep other people from living in here if you don't want it, don't you think? There's gonna be another family, other memories, other first kisses... and you have to accept that." He glanced at the house once again. A deep frown in his brow. "If that's what you really want, Luca. Nobody's restraining you from keeping the house."
He shook his head. "No, I don't want it. I want to build a new one with the woman I marry one day." He glanced at me quickly but averted his gaze once again. "You know, to form a family."
"Then you need to close this book, Luca. It ended, stop looking for a new page."
Luca turned to face me and smiled. His eyes still a little pensive. We stayed in silent, staring at one another. You could only hear both of our breathing and the cheeping of a bird somewhere above us. A little breeze fanning my hair away from my face.
Luca lifted his hips and approached his body to mine, our hands still together. He glanced down at my lips. "Riley, I-"
We suddenly heard the agent and the young couple's voices coming closer. We both got up quickly and I put my hands on my cheeks, feeling the blush heating my face.
When the blonde woman got out to see the backyard, her smile widened and her eyes lit up in excitement. "Babe, look at that huge tree! This is beautiful!"
Luca glanced at me and I smiled at him. He bit his lips trying to fight one of his own and walked towards the woman. "It's an oak tree. It's 120 years old. You can build a tree house on it. Totally safe."
