Was she serious?!? Maureen seriously wanted me to take Annie into town? I will do whatever Maureen needs because I respect her and owe her a lot. But I just hope I don't become this girl's chauffeur.

But I will suck it up, because once again, it's important To Maureen. Besides, I have to grab a few tools anyways. So we begin walking over towards my truck.

Before getting in, I quickly grab a shirt I had kept in the back as a backup in case I ever needed to change for any reason and since this happens to be as good of a reason as any, I removed my half wet t-shirt, threw it in the back and put a new one on.

When I opened up my door, I catch her looking at me and quickly turning away blushing.

I don't know why but it was in that moment that I had suddenly felt like maybe I should stop thinking negative about her and assuming things. Maybe she isn't at all what I thought.

During the first few minutes of driving, things were quiet and things were starting to feel awkward until she finally said something.

"I'm sorry about this. I tried telling her I could walk. I mean, I do have a car and apparently, she took it into town to get it worked on without me knowing until a few moments ago, so that's why she is having you take me." She says.

I have known so many like her in the past, that I was so sure before that she was going to be a spoiled little brat or something but I guess not.

"That sounds like Maureen." I say randomly and we both share a good chuckle.

We pulled up in front of the grocery store and got out.

"You don't have to go with me. I can find my own way back home, if you want and I can think of something to tell my grandmother about....." She starts to tell me but I stop her.

"Well, that's not going to happen. But why don't I make you a deal. How about I'll be next door looking at some tools and you can go ahead and get whatever you need then meet me back at the truck and I will take you back so that way neither of us gets our ass kicked?!" I smirked.

"Okay." She replies then turns and begins walking into the store.

Fuck me, those curves in those jeans. Shit! How the hell am I able to control myself?!

I try and quickly shake the thought from my head and make my way towards next door at the local hardware store.

When walking up to the counter to check out, the guy ringing me up happens to be the owner of this place, is in his fifties and is one of the coolest people I have ever met.

"Hey Todd. How ya doin' today?" He greets me.

"Not too bad. You?" I ask.

"Heard Maureen's granddaughter was in town." He nods as he finishes ringing me up.

"Yeah. Apparently she came in early this morning." I replied.

Once I left, I walked out and headed towards the truck.

I didn't want to give him the chance to ask anything else. Besides, I'm sure he'll find out more later as will everybody else. That's the thing with small towns, most of the time, if not always, there are people who are nosy and sometimes even know things about your life before you do.

After I tossed my bag of tools in the back then looked in the grocery store and noticed Annie was standing at checkout and talking with the lady.

I don't know what they said or what exactly happened, but she grabbed her bag, they smiled at one another and then when she walked out, Annie looked to be embarrassed or something and almost as if she was going to cry.

She got in the truck and I don't know why, but for some reason, I wanted to ask her what happened or what was wrong but it's none of my business.

So I just started the truck up and we started heading back.

She was looking down at the bag on her lap and seemed real quiet and upset still.

What happened I wondered. Did she not have enough money? Did her card get declined?

I wasn't before but now, I am more interested than ever in finding out what her story is exactly.

Next chapter will be posted soon! :)
