Alex

I stared at my alarm clock expectantly as it changed to read 6:29. I hadn't managed to fall asleep yet, and in about one minute, I was going to need to get up and start getting ready.

I outwardly groaned.

The entire night was wasted on thoughts of Christian. He had officially drove me to the brink of insanity with that kiss. Through the many hours I had stayed awake for, I still hadn't managed to figure out what it meant... what he meant by it. I wasn't sure how I was even going to make it through this work trip without having one awfully dramatic mental breakdown.

The obnoxious sound of the alarm clock going off made me jump, and it ripped my thoughts away from me.

No time for bullshit, I said to myself. I guess it was show time.

By the grace of God himself, I managed to get ready in time. Luckily, the procrastinator in me had taken a fucking seat this week, and I ended up packing my bags early. The only thing that was left for me to do was print out some last minute work items, and meet Christian at the airport.

When I made it in to the office around 7:20, I hadn't seen anyone there besides a few janitors. That was why it took me by surprise when I noticed Joan up on the third floor.

"Well hey there stranger, long time no see huh?" Joan joked as she pulled me in for a bone crushing hug.

She hadn't exactly been wrong. Joan had texted me Friday night about going out, but with this Mavericks deal coming into fruition, I hadn't had much time to meet the gang at the bar for drinks. Although I managed to stop by and see them at least once during the day, most of my breaks had been spent putting in overtime with Christian.

I felt a little pang in my heart at her words, when I realized that I had been the one to slip out of our usual routine.

"I promise Joan, as soon as I'm back, it's you and me baby." I gave her a wink. Joan's smile did nothing but grow. I knew this woman would never blame me for a damn thing, but that just made me all the more sensitive to her. Maybe it was the guilt that tripped me up, or the fact that I hadn't had anyone to confide in, but I hadn't exactly meant to say the next few words that stumbled out of me. "So Christian kissed me."

The sip of water Joan was taking, exploded out her mouth and all over her desk. I couldn't help but smile at the all too familiar reaction I had had, when I first accepted the job offer from Christian.

"Run that shit all the fucking way back, he did what?" Joan asked. She had set all the shit she had been working on, down, and her eyes were now fully focused on mine.

"He kissed me." I said hesitantly, "and I'm not sure what for or why, but I've been one hot fucking mess about it all night."

"All night?" She continued as her eyes narrowed. "This happened last night? And you didn't fucking call me?"

I looked down at the ground in shame. While I knew waking Joan up at two o'clock in the morning would have been an inconvenience to her, I also knew that this particular issue would fall into her "for good cause" file.

"Sorry." I mumbled an apology. "It all happened so quick I can't even swear on the Bible that it actually happened. I haven't received any text all night or this morning-" before I could finish off that sentence, I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket.

Christian:
Where the fuck are you?

I glanced at the time, and somehow, it was steady approaching 8:00am.

"Shit! Joan, I gotta dash. Listen but I promise, as soon as I get back, I'll explain everything." I called out to her as I started to make my way to the elevator.

"You fucking better, Alex! Don't you forget I know where you live!" She called out.

That brought me back to the memory of her first walking in on Christian and I. There was no way I'd forget that.

When I made it to the airport, Brad was waiting for me at baggage claim.

"Hey Brad, I didn't know you were coming." I spoke, as soon as he came into view.

"I'm not, I just don't trust that, between Christian and yourself, either of you will make this flight on time." He replied simply.

I didn't know whether I should take offense to that... but every fiber of being in my body knew he wasn't exactly wrong. I just gave him a nod as he shuffled me through the business of the airport. He got me all the way to security then stood to the side as I started to slip my personal items off.

"He's at the gate already so as soon as you make it through, I'm going to need you to fly." Brad said before he gave me a "good luck" and exited through the side ropes.

I glanced down at my watch right before tossing it in one of the security bins. It was now 8:40, and our flight was departing in fifteen minutes.

Christian

It was official.

I was going to kill this idiot.

I glanced up at the time that flashed on all the tv monitors. It was 8:45, and the plane had just about finished boarding.

"We need to close up the cabins soon sir, we can't make this flight late on behalf of one passenger." The flight attendant informed me. She noticed the flash of rage go through me, but before I could thoroughly chew this woman out, we were both interrupted by another voice screaming down the hallway.

"Wait! I'm here, I'm here!" Alex shot out as he sprinted over. I'd never seen him move so quickly before in my life. His hair had looked like he went through a tornado shortly before gracing us with his presence, but at this point, I couldn't care less.

He was here. That was all that mattered.

"Oh thank god." The flight attendant whispered more to herself than me. "Let's go go go." She ushered the both of us on. The flight had luckily not been all that crowded. She got us settled in the business class cabin, and even assisted me with putting my laptop bag in the overhead compartment.

Alex still looked a little shaken up as he got strapped in for the flight. I hadn't noticed the fidgeting he was doing, until now.

"You alright?" I asked finally, as the flight attendants finished their instructions, and the plane started to move along the runway.

"Yes, sorry. I'm just now realizing I haven't really flown in a while." He replied. He tried to keep his voice steady, but it was hard to miss the unevenness. Those gorgeous eyes were now squeezed shut as he braced himself for take off.

He looked absolutely miserable.

I wasn't sure what had come over me, but I did the first thing that came to mind.

I pulled his hand away from all the fidgeting he was doing, and slipped his into mine. It didn't take Alex more than a fraction of a second to interlock our fingers.
