- One year later -

*Luna's POV*

Sadie purrs as I scratch the top of her as I read.

I love this cat so fucking much.

Her grey fur is soft under my fingers.

Owen and I adopted her when we moved into this apartment last year.

Flora still lives at Owen's parents house, except he visits her often since he misses her...a lot.

Except he loves Flora and Sadie equally.  They're his little babies.

Well...his furry babies.

I sigh when I lift the book off my stomach and look at the bump on my stomach.

His human baby won't stop kicking me.

"Can you stop little lady? I'm trying to read!" I poke my stomach, telling her to stop.

She won't stop.  Whatever.

This is Owen and his weak pull out game's fault.

Never did I ever see myself being nineteen and pregnant, but here we are.

"Sorry Sadie, but I gotta go prepare dinner." Sadie looks up at me as I attempt to push myself off the couch.

I'm able to get up...eventually.

Our apartment is small, but it's cute.  The walls are a creamy white.  There's a small living room with one big bookcase that we keep all of our books in.  Well...we had to leave some books at our parent's home's since they don't all fit in the bookcase.

Several of my favorite scented candles are spread around the place.

Our kitchen is right across from the living room.  And a small round wooden table sits in the middle with a few plates spread along with the chairs.

And the kitchen is my favorite part because it's sage green.

I could stare at this fucking kitchen every damn day.

As I prepare the rice and chicken, suddenly the front door opens and I turn my head.

Owen walks in and drops his backpack on the floor tiredly.

College and that internship has been kicking his ass, but he's managing.

I'm so proud of him.

"Hi! How was your day today?" I ask as I walk over to him.

His eyes soften when he sees me.

His arms engulf me in a long hug.

"I think my professor loves seeing me overwhelmed with work, but other than that it was good." Owen leans back and smacks a kiss on my lips.

"How was your day? Hows my little girl doing?" His warm hand slides to the side of my stomach.

"She won't stop kicking me.  I can't even read in peace." I look down to my stomach and poke it again.

She kicks me.

"See! I told you, she's gonna be into sports.  I'm putting her in volleyball so she can take after me.  Or maybe we can put her in karate so she can beat up any boy who tries to come near her." His hand slides over a part of my stomach and smiles when she kicks him.

"I want her to carry a knife so no boys will try anything." I rub my stomach.

"I agree." He kisses me again and the corner of his lips tick upwards.

We both walk over to the kitchen.

My mom, Mateo, and Camila are coming over for dinner today.

Usually once a week either his family or mine visits us and we eat together.

Camila loves our apartment.  She wants to steal Sadie from us.  Not happening girl.

She is also very excited to be a tía. I think she'll be great for the job. She is one of the sweetest girls I've ever met. I'm so proud to be able to see her grow up to be the wonderful young lady she is.

Mateo on the other hand...that boy is trouble.

I think all his teachers must hate him by the amount of times mom gets a call that he pulled another "prank".

He literally peed in his teachers Snapple when she gave him an F...

I still don't know what to think about that.

"You think your mom is gonna tell us another story about how Mateo got suspended or some shit?" Owen sarcastically grins at me.

I snort. "That boy is probably gonna be expelled by the time he reaches fifth grade."

"I'm counting on it." Owen begins preparing our plates.

A knock on the door makes me smile.

When I open the front door Camila is the first one to skip inside, completely ignoring me and going straight to Sadie who's sitting on the couch.

Except before she fully walks away she realizes I'm there and smiles up at me.

"Hi Luna!" She wraps her arms around my waist and rests her head on my baby bump. Before separating from me, she gives my stomach a kiss.

"Sup." Mateo waltzes in like he owns the place and takes a seat at the table.

My mom blows out a tired breath, but her smile reaches her eyes when she sees me.

"Ah, mija, cómo estás? How you feeling?" She drops her bag to the floor and gives me a hug, glancing down to my stomach and smiling again.  (Translation: My daughter, how are you?)

"I'm good.  How are you? How's work?" She closes the door behind her and walks over to the dining table.

"Hola blanquito." She quickly gives Owen a hug before sitting down next to Mateo.  "Well...I'm feeling pretty good.  And today at the hospital this old man told me to 'go back to my country'." She rolls her eyes.  "Like, you viejo, I could unplug your life support right now." (Viejo=old man.  Blanquito=white boy.)

Owen snorts.  "You tell em." I also laugh.

"Wait...have you guys picked out a name yet for my nieta?" She stands up and walks over to the kitchen to start making her plate. (Nieta=granddaughter.)

"I don't know.  We haven't really talked about it." I shrug.  "Owen's smarty pants people work is keeping him busy and taking online classes to become a librarian has been keeping me busy too.  So it hasn't really come up." I grab the plate that Owen prepared for me and give him a kiss on the cheek as a thank you before sitting down.

"Well, I'm sure you guys will name her something cute." Mom begins to shove spoons of rice in her mouth.

Camila comes over and takes a seat with us to start eating.

"Mamá...yo quiero un gato.  Mira a Sadie.  Ella es bonita, no?" Camila complains to mom.  (Translation:  Mom...I want a cat.  Look at Sadie.  She's cute, no?)

Mom rolls her eyes.  "Té dije, tú no vas a tener un gato." I chuckle and Camila quickly averts her gaze to me and narrows her eyes.  (Translation: I told you, you're not going to have a cat.)

"Ma...just let her get a cat.  I'm sure she will take great care of the animal." I reassure her before shoving a piece of seasoned chicken in my mouth.

"Eh." Mom shrugs before shoving another spoon full of rice in her mouth.

"Don't worry Camila, I'm sure you'll get a cat one day." Owen cuts in.

"Thanks Owen." She nods with a grin and then takes a huge bite of chicken, her mouth looking like a chipmunk who ate too many acorns.

When I look to Mateo I see him absently staring at my belly.

Suddenly he turns to Owen.  "You lied to me."

Owen's eyebrows pinch together confused.  "When?"

"You told me that you were just friends with my sister and that you weren't gonna get her pregnant.  Now look at her." He says with a straight face as he uses his fork to gesture at me.

Owen's eyes widen as he tries to hide his laugh, pushing his tongue to his cheek.  "Whoops." He shrugs.

I purse my lips, trying not to laugh.

"Oh Mateo, by the way, any new school stories to update us about?" I grin.

A evil smile spreads on his lips.

"I 'spilled' some water on my teacher's chair when she left the room for a second and for the rest of the day it looked like she peed herself.  Except then this snitch in class told the principal and then I had apologize." He rolls his eyes.

I choke down my laugh.  Owen itches the bridge of his nose as he attempts to cover his face so it looks like he isn't about to laugh.

"Mateo...you can't do that.  But also whoever that tattle tale is, is messed up for doing that.  Little snitch." He nods, agreeing with me.

"Exactly! Her name is Sara.  That little bi-" He cuts himself off when mom darts her gaze at him.

"Hey! Sara's my friend, cállate." Camila interjects.  (Translation: Cállate=shut up.)

"Well your little friend can suck my butt." Mateo angrily chews another price of chicken.

The two of them argue quietly amongst each other.

"Those two..." Mom sighs.  "You're gonna be having to deal with that-" She waves her fork artthe two kids, "-soon."

I grin.  "I know."

Truthfully, I can't wait to be a mom.  I'm scared shitless, but I'm still thrilled.

"Have you guys bought a crib?  Do you have enough diapers?  Baby clothes?" She looks between the both of us nervously.

I smile.  "Yes ma, we do." I nod and she sighs, relieved.

The apartment has two bedrooms, one of them will be the nursery.

"I can't believe I'm gonna be an abuela.  You better teach my granddaughter Spanish." She points her finger at me.  "And you better teach her French.  She could make some good money in the future for knowing three languages." She moves her finger to point towards Owen.

He lifts his hands up in surrender.  "No worries, I will.  Luna has already made me promise that I'll teach her French."

Yes, I have.  I want my daughter to be the coolest little girl in school.  And knowing three languages is pretty cool if you ask me.

By the time it reaches 7pm mom decides that it's time to go home.

She helped us clean up even though we told her it was fine.

"Bye bye." She hugs both Owen and I and smacks kisses on our cheeks.

"Bye dude." Mateo fist bumps Owen.

Camila gives us both hugs and goes to say goodbye to Sadie before heading out the door with mom and Mateo.

I sigh tiredly. "I'm gonna go shower." Owen gives me a kiss on the cheek before I head to the bathroom.

I had no idea where my life was gonna go a few years ago, hell, even just last year.

But damn, I wouldn't change it for the fucking world.

~

*Owen's POV*

My fingers rub small circles around her baby bump.

We're both laying on the couch.  Since her belly isn't too big yet, I'm able to lay half on top of her as she reads her book.

My head rests against her chest and she uses my upper back as a place to rest her arms as she holds her book up.

Our small TV plays some random cartoon. A few candles light up the dark apartment.

I feel so content right now.

Simply just laying on the couch, covered in a warm blanket as Luna reads, me feeling our daughter who won't stop kicking her stomach with my hand.

My fingers continue drawing little shapes on her belly.

I can't believe I'm nineteen and going to be a dad.

What the fuck.

I mean...Luna and I have sex...a lot. So I honestly wasn't even that surprised when the test came back positive.

Our lives are going to be very hectic soon, with having a newborn, me constantly studying, Luna also studying. It's gonna be hard, but what's life without some challenge?

I don't know this little girl, but I already love her so fucking much.

When I had told my parents that Luna's pregnant I think my mom almost had a heart attack.

A good kind of heart attack, though.

They're pretty excited to be grandparents. It's cute how my mom is always asking to feel the baby every time she sees Luna.

"Luna?" My eyes scan over the pages of her book.

"Mhm?"

"What do you think my brother would think of me now?" I ask quietly.

Her hand lifts to play with the ends of my hair.

"I think he'd be proud of you." She says lowly.

"Really?" I can feel a smile coming on.

"Mhm. I wish he could meet her." Her voice holds a sad note to it.

I rub my large hand over her stomach in a calmingly way. "Maybe in another life."

I wonder what he'd think of me, seeing me now with a girlfriend, having a kid, going to college, living in New York. I think about it all the time.

I miss you dude.

About half an hour goes by of me just falling in and out of sleep while she reads.

I love using her body as a pillow.  She's cozy and warm.  She uses me as her personal pillow, so it's only fair.

Well, I specifically like using her boobs as a headrest while I sleep.

Ever since she got pregnant her breasts and ass have definitely grown in size.  She's been pretty skinny her whole life, but she looks a little healthier and filled out with a little extra weight.  She looks beautiful no matter what, though.

She looks at me confused when I push myself off her and stand up.

"Hey, where are you going?" Her eyes sadden at my departure.

She always calls me clingy yet she isn't any better.

"C'mon." I open my hand for her to grab.

She eyes me wearily before placing her book down and letting me help her stand off the couch.

I hold onto her hand as I pull us to the front door.

"Are you gonna throw me off the building?" She raises her eyebrow.

"Definitely not."

I keep my fingers laced through her's as I lead us to the stairs that go up to the rooftop of the building.

The stairwell smells of weed and a little mold.

There is a summer breeze when I push the door open.

The sky is a pure black color. We both take a seat at two of the chairs near the edge.

We watch the people walking down the street. Some stumble around in groups with their friends, already drunk. Preteens skateboard down the block. One falls and their friends break out into a fit laughter.

I lift my hand to my mouth to prevent myself from laughing. You're going to be a fucking dad soon, you can't laugh at kid's falling, I internally scold myself.

Shops and restaurants light up the street along with the lamp posts that attract swarms of little flies.

The laundromat across the street plays the most random music, serving as a playlist to the life going on around it.

"I love our life." Luna voices.

My head spins to her and the corner of my lip lifts to a small smile.

I admire her side profile as she stares down, scanning all the people passing by.

"Me too." My voice cuts through the air.

My eyes travel down her body and land on her stomach.

It's surreal to me how my kid is in there. Our kid is in there.

Fear makes goosebumps appear all over my skin.

What if my daughter ends up hating me or some shit?

What if I fail at protecting her from this shitty world?

What if I fuck it this whole parent thing? I don't know what the fuck I'm doing.

What if-

"Stop." My eyes flick back up to Luna's. She stares at me, already knowing what's going on in my head.

My leg bounces from stress. "Don't worry, we'll figure it out." She reassures me.

I nod wordlessly.

I remember when I told Levina that Luna was pregnant over the phone she literally started screaming.

Her and Olive are in Europe right now, but they said that the minute that come back they want to see her.

I feel like they'd be pretty good aunts. They've already said that they don't want kids. I don't blame them, children are annoying as fuck.

Luna hums to a song as she watches the kids skateboard below.

"Want to be friends?" The random girl asks me.

Um.  "No." I just want to read in peace.

I turn back towards my book.  Please leave.

"Do you want to be my acquaintance?" My eyes look back up to her pretty dark brown ones.

Holy fuck, what's a guy gotta do to just fucking read in silence?

I don't want to think about what would've happened if Luna wasn't the stubborn person she is, approaching me practically every single day in school until I just gave in and became friends with her.

We continue sitting in silence, watching the lives of others pass us by.

My hand moves to her lap, my fingers finding her's.  She peaceably runs her finger tips over my knuckles.

A feeling of anticipation over takes me as I think of what the future has in store for us.

Life has never looked so beautiful.

So bright.
