- Two years later -

*Owen's POV*

"Um..." I think I fucked up.

Dani stares absently at the mirror with her head tilted to the side, confused as she watches me stress over her hair.

The two braids are lopsided, but...it works? Right?

"Papa, it's wrong." Her hazel eyes meet my gaze in the mirror and then she uses her little finger to point to her hair.

"Well, you know what...it's fine." I give up. Doing her hair stresses me out. I place my hands under her armpits and pick her up off the small dresser in her room and onto the floor.

"C'mon, we're gonna go to the park." Because of the fall weather it's kind of chilly, so I grab her little pink sweater and kneel down on the floor so I'm at her level before pulling her arms through the sleeves.

"Slide!" Her little mouth turns up into a smile and she begins to jump up and down.

"Yes, slides. How fun." I kiss her soft chubby cheek and she smiles before I stand back up and hold her little hand in my much larger palm.

It's Saturday, except Luna went into the library today so that she can do paper work and shit.

"C'mon, say bye to Sadie." Dani quickly scurries over to our cat who is laid out across the couch, giving her a delicate kiss on her head.

When she leans back and looks down at the cat she grins, putting her baby teeth on display. "Adios."

I hold out my hand for her and she hops back over to me.

Yes, I did in fact say hop. She saw a video of a rabbit hopping on animal planet a few days ago and now she will just start hopping randomly at times.

She is her mother's daughter.  That's for sure.

Except her hopping is taking too much time, so I scoop her up in my arms so that we can walk out the building within two minutes rather than an hour.

Twenty-one years old with a two year old.  It's difficult at times with school and stuff, but Luna and I make it work.  Thank god we got blessed with a daughter who isn't a problematic child.

Dani is a happy little girl, always smiling an what not.  She mainly just wants to watch Princess movies and have Luna or me read to her.

Her favorite thing is when I tickle her stomach and she can't stop laughing.  Hearing her little giggles makes my heart want to explode.

"Arbre." She points to a large tree with a lot of green leaves as we walk on the side walk.  (Translation: Tree.)

"A pretty tree." I smile and rub her back with my hand as we continue walking.

Sometimes she just randomly blurts out words in French or Spanish. I'm not even sure if she knows that English, Spanish, and French are three different languages.

The park is roaming with kids, parents sit at the benches on the sides looking bored, like they just want to go home already.

"Want to go on the swings?" I set Dani down on the floor and hold onto her hand, leading her to the swing.

"Ya, ya!" She begins to try to run, except with her short little toddler legs her version of running is equivalent to my version of walking.

When we reach the swing she lifts her arms, silently telling me to pick her up.

Lifting her by her underarms, I place her in the baby swing.

As I begin to push her, two little boys run past us.  One trips on air and plummets right into the mulch.

Don't laugh.

Don't laugh.

Don't-

A witchy giggle erupts from the other boy as he stares at his friend on the floor who is glaring up at him.

I hold my hoodie sleeve up to my face and pretend to itch my nose as I try to hold back my laugh.

Suddenly the lady next to me pushing her kid on the adjacent swing speaks up.  "Omg...your sister is so cute!"

"Um...she's my daughter." Dani stares at the kids running around as she continues swaying back and forth.

"Oh...young parent? Me too haha, 22 with a 2 year old." She laughs.

She has dirty blonde hair and bright blue eyes.  Her son sits in the swing.  He's staring in daze at Dani.

I don't like the way he's looking at her.  So I already have to worry about boys and she's only two? Are you fucking kidding me?

"Yeah." I let out a weak laugh.

She hesitates for a second before opening her mouth again.  "Mom still in the picture?" A glint of hope in her eyes.

"Very much so.  Now if you'll excuse me I have to go, have a good day." That's it, I already want to leave. I remove Dani from the swing and she purses her little lips in protest.

Once we're away from the park I roll my eyes.

Babies truly are chick magnets.  It's fucking annoying.  Why can't I just take my daughter to the park without some random mom hitting on me? I am very much in love with my baby mama, goodbye.

"Dani, why do you have to be so adorable?" I playfully make a mad looking face at her before pushing my nose against her cheek and rubbing it against her skin, which makes her giggle.

She shrugs at my question, smiling and still laughing.

I whole heartedly believe that I have the most beautiful little girl in the world.  She has my hair texture except it's black, like Luna's.  Her skin is a tan color.  And she has big hazel eyes.

Luna and I decided to name her after my very first best friend. Danny's ego would've exploded if he'd find out that I named my kid after him.

"Are you excited to go see mama? She should be home by now.  And guess what she's making for dinner..." I grin.

Dani's eyes light up.  "Arroz!" She gets all excited and tightens her arms around my neck.  (Translation: Rice.)

She's just like her mom in the way that they both love hugs.  Well, I've grown to love them too.

The sky is already turning a darker shade of blue by the time we get back to the apartment.

The second I open the door and place Dani down on the floor she sprints to her mom as fast as she can.

"How's my little princess doing?" Luna kneels down and wraps her arms around Dani, snuggling her face into her little shoulder.

Dani mumbles out incoherent words, to which Luna just laughs at smiles.  "Oh how great...?"

When she stands back up, she sighs from tiredness and then saunters over to me, letting her head fall to the center of my chest.

She wraps her arms around my waist and I secure mine over her shoulders.

The house smells like Spanish rice.

"I'm so tired." She mumbles against my hoodie as I rest my chin on top of her head.

"After dinner you can get some sleep." She picks her head up from my chest and I lean down to peck her lips.

Luna gives me a small smile before Dani's voice chimes in.

"Tengo hambre." I glance over to her to see her small hand rubbing circles around her stomach. (Translation: I'm hungry.)

I blow out a breath and let a small smile etch onto my lips before looking back down to Luna who's still staring up at me.

"Me too."

~

It's 9pm and we're already all cuddled up next to each other on the small couch watching The Princess and the Frog for the thousandth time.

Dani watches it every...single...day.

At this point I don't think she'll ever get bored of it.

Luna rests her head on my shoulder and Dani sits on my lap. A blanket covering the three of us.

"Do you think she'll ever get tired of this thing?" Luna whispers to me, her eyes still glued to the screen.

"Nope." I turn my head a little and plant a kiss on her cheek.

She smiles and wraps her arms around my bicep tighter.

When the movie's over Dani asks to replay it.

"Nope, bed time, c'mon." I stand up, carrying a sleepy Dani against me. She rests her cheek against my shoulder, droll starting to wet the fabric.

Luna opens her arms. "Here, lemme take her." I carefully pass her to Luna and she begins walking back to our bedroom. Her slippers slapping against the wood floor gently being the only sound present in the quiet apartment.

I give Sadie a kiss on the head and turn the TV off before heading to the bedroom as well, turning off the light.

Luna is already snuggled under the blanket, hugging Dani.

My family.

Everything I could've ever asked for is right next to me.

They're already asleep, and I could tell because of the drool seeping out of Dani's mouth onto the pillow, and because of the soft snores leaving Luna's mouth.

Being as quiet as possible, I lift the blanket and slide in. I open the nightstand drawer and take out a notebook and a pencil.

Am I grown man who likes to occasionally journal? Yes. Yes the fuck I am.

I turn to a new page, letting the tip of the pencil hit the paper.

Danny,

Can't believe it's been 7 years already.  Everyday I can't help but stay up and wonder what you'd be doing right now if you didn't do what you did.  I wonder if I could talk to you right now, would you would tell me that you regret it? Or who knows, maybe you don't.  You have no fuckin' idea how bad I want you to meet Luna and Dani.  It's crazy to think that I have my own family now.

Fuckin' wild.

I remember you telling me how you wanted to be a firefighter.

I wonder if you'd be one right now.

I wonder if I'd have little nieces and nephews running around.  (You were a whore so I think I would).

So many pathways of the way things could've been so different run through my mind, a lot.

Luna reminds me every once in a while to not harp on "what if's".

Luna, man, I'm so grateful for her.

I still remember that one time in 6th grade when you told me, "Don't worry.  One day you'll find the one who makes your dick twitch and your mind short circuit."

Well, you were right.

You were so fucking right.

I look over to the two people who I love most in the entire goddamn world.

And I wonder,

How did I ever get so lucky in life.
