Venus laid on her bed resting her hand on her belly wondering if the two little lives growing inside her were going to be able to stay together if she couldn't figure a way out, or if one of them would be doomed to a life just like hers.

"I'm sorry little ones," she thought to the tiny ones, "it's not far for me to give up on you so early.  I'll get you two out. I promise."

Her dark room started to glow and the red lights started flashing signalling a new day.  She groaned as she sat up in bed and hung her feet over the edge.  The pregnancy was making her tired but she couldn't sleep, not since the day she visited Danielson's office.  It made the nausea from the pregnancy worse.  To make it worse the day before she and Mars were left alone in the cantina together.  He was staring at her from across the room making her feel like the floor had dropped out beneath her feet.  His stare wasn't one of a concerned loving friend but was full of contempt.  Venus wanted Mars to stop the displays of affection but if he hated her it would make it difficult to convince him to escape with her when the time came.  She would have time to explain out the plan, but just grab him and go.

She decided to try and make amends.  There was nothing wrong with their friendship.  Venus got up and headed over toward him.  With every step, Mars's attitude darkened.  Before Venus could say one word he jumped up from the table and stormed off.

"Mars!" She called out, but he didn't stop.

It sickened her that she had let Danielson ruin their friendship.

That following morning she sat there trying to overcome the urge to run to the bathroom she could feel the blood drain from her face.  She was losing the battle and knew that if she didn't rush to the bathroom soon she would cause a huge mess in her room.  In the mad dash to her bathroom, she heard the door to her room slide open for her to file out behind the other female Breeders in her quad.  As her body was voiding her body of the remnants of the night before's dinner the other Breeders where on their way to fill their stomachs with breakfast.

It wouldn't be long before a medic was in the room to find out why she hadn't come out of her room yet, but she didn't care.  The toilet was currently her best friend and she had no intention of leaving its side anytime soon.

Within minutes of not reporting to the medics outside of the bathing area, one headed toward Venus's room to see what was keeping her.  It wasn't uncommon to find a fertilized Breeder hugging the toilets in their quarters, but when the medic found Venus lying on the floor passed out she knew something was wrong.

She ran out and pushed the panic button on the outside wall before returning to the Breeder's side to see if she could wake her.  When she touched her the Breeder was cold and clammy and her eyes were dark and sunken in.

Pepa was in the breakroom enjoying her morning coffee, before her shift started, when the emergency page came across the announcement speakers summoning her to medical room 48B.  At first, she was confused.  The only time an emergency page came across the speakers it was because a Breeder of her had gone into labour, but she didn't have any that was close enough to their due date for that.

She jumped up from her chair and left her still steaming cup alone on the table, knowing something must be seriously wrong.  She pushed past her co-workers that were filing in and out of the crew part of The Cube as they were changing shifts.

It was a long joint to the medical rooms, which made no sense to Pepa when something was wrong it cause the Medics to run to the most secluded area of The Cube.  The long run had Pepa completely out of breath when she burst through medical room 48B.  Venus was unconsciously laying on the examing room.

Panic shot through Pepa when she saw the young Breeder on the table. This was the girls she was going to free.  The girl she was actually going to rescue from this horrid place.  She wanted to make sure the Breeder was okay first but protocol was to check on the fetuses first.

"What happened?" Pepa asked as she readied the ultrasound machine.

"I just found her passed out in the bathroom floor," the medic told her.

Pepa grabbed venus's wrist to check her pulse.  It was a nice normal pace, which was a relief to Pepa.  On the ultrasound screen the fetuses looked healthy and normal, so Pepa could move on to make sure that the Breeder was fine.  She noticed the dark circles under Venus's eyes and her dried lips.

"I think she might be dehydrated," Pepa said more to herself than to the other medics in the room.

"So do you need us to stick around?" One of the other medics asked that helped bring Venus to the room.

Pepa shook her head, "No, I'll run a couple of tests then hook her up to a saline drip."

The other Medics left the room and it helped lighten the atmosphere in the room.  Pepa worked better alone.  She didn't feel like people were hanging over her shoulder and analyzing her every move or judging her kindness toward the Breeders.

She drew some blood from Venus and just by the color of the blood she could tell the young woman was indeed dehydrated.  While she ran some tests she hooked up venus to a saline drip to get the poor girl hydrated.  Pepa was also concerned about the dark circles and tired bags under her eyes.  Pepa wondered if she was sleeping well at night.  There wasn't much she could give her to help with sleepless nights, it would be too risky to the pregnancy.

This incident would be reported so Pepa would have to make a follow-up report.  As Venus rested Pepa dimmed the lights just low enough that she could still see her keyboard.

The only sound in the room was the deep slumbering breathing coming from Venus and the light tapping from the keyboard.  Pepa didn't plan on leaving Venus's side that day.  She wouldn't be needed anywhere else anytime soon and any exams she needed to do she could take care of in a neighbouring room.

"At least I won't have to walk all the way back to the facility," Pepa thought to herself as she typed away, "I can just clock out her and sneak out the loading dock area.  Everyone should be cleared out of there by the end of my shift and it's practically around the corner from here."

Pepa's thoughts halted as a realization dawned on her. She was in a secluded part of the facility extremely close to an exit.  She practically giggled aloud as she realized that this crazy plan might actually be possible.

A/N:
