The door creaked open. Heather was positioned in front of me with a warm smile on her face. The first thing I noticed was the amount of perfume she was wearing; you would think her shower water was flavored passionberry. I crinkled my nose, but quickly replaced it with a smile.

"Bayley! I haven't seen you in ages! My, you've grown so much!" She was practically bouncing with excitement as she came over and gave me a hug (Nothing is more uncomfortable than hugging in my opinion). I just stood there awkwardly, my arms locked at my sides while she squeezed the living bejeezus out of me.

"Its good to see you too" I answered back once she released me. Then I noticed the fancy dress that she had on, paired with expensive black heels.

"Are you going on a date?" I questioned, flashing a mischevious smile. She caught on and cackled. Busted.

"It so happens that I am, detective" She teased, running a hand through her wavy black hair. I have to say, for a women in her late 30's, she was strikingly beautiful. Her and my mom have been friends ever since college, so I wasn't surprised when she chose me to watch her kids tonight. After all, I don't think anyone else would take on three boys at once.

"You can come inside now" she said, interrupting my thoughts.

"Oh right" I laughed lightly, "Who's the lucky man?"

"Just some guy I met at the office yesterday" She replied dreamily, lifting her purse off the counter. I opened my mouth to speak, but loud rock music suddenly awakened from somewhere in the house. What the...? I shot Heather a confused look.

"Oh, that's just the renters downstairs. Did I forget to mention it to you?" She said casually. I just nodded.

"Well, we had to rent out our basement so we could pay the bills. Don't worry, they're totally normal. It's just their son that I'm worried about. He's around your age, and apparently a troublemaker." Great! So now I'm going to have to deal with four boys? This isn't going to end well.

"As long as he doesn't bother me I'm sure I'll be fine" I said with much more confidence than I felt. Something about this mystery boy didn't sound right. Putting the uneasiness aside, I changed the subject.

"Where's Jake and the others?" I asked her. Jake was sort of the ring leader. He's 9, and being the oldest, has control over the others- Blake (7) and Tommy (4). If I had to sum all of them up with one word, it would be insane. They break things, steal candy, play pranks, spill everywhere, mess things up, and basically anything related to that. The last time I babysat for them was two and a half years ago, and I remember by the time it was over I was practically in tears, and Jake hurled a baseball at their flatscreen T.V. and knocked it to pieces.

I shuddered at the memory. Good thing I was more experienced now. There was no way I was going to let those boys out of my sight! Now, where could they be...

I felt something small and hard hit the back of my head. "Ow!" My hands flew up and cupped the bruise that was now forming. Their just lucky I didn't get a concussion! Is that... Is that a Bebe caught in my hair? Seriously! I spun around to come face to face with the little gang of devils themselves.

"Well well well" I said overdramatically, crossing my arms, "Who's is this?" I held up the florescent green bebe between my fingers. They all looked up at me with their big chocolate brown eyes, not saying a word. I lifted an eyebrow.

"Okay. If someone isn't going to fess up..." I trailed off, flicking the ammo into the kitchen trash. Score! I looked back into there oh so innocent eyes.

"You're all going to pay!" The boys screamed in sync and began racing up the stairs. I cackled evilly and started jogging up, clutching the banister for support. Wow, I am so out of shape. Before I reached the top, I looked over my shoulder and waved to Heather. She grinned and mouthed me a 'good luck' before disappearing out the back door.

Okay, if I remember correctly, the boys room is the third room over to the left, next to the bathroom. I tiptoed stealthily towards the door and laid my hands on the wood. Alright, on the count of three. One... Two....Three!

I shoved the door open and flicked the switch, light flooding into the empty room. Huh? I swear this is where they always used to hide. I did a quick once over (checking under the bed of course) and backed out into the hallway. Out of the corner of my eye, a shadow passed by the stairs. "CRREEAAKKK." Haha you can't escape now. I gotcha where I want ya.

Small feet pounded down the stairs. I quickly turned the corner and started my ascend. Uh oh, where's the next step? "Aaaahhh!" My head was spinning as I flew down the flight of stairs, my feet barely brushing against the steps. I reached the bottom in a solid two seconds and collided with the floor. Childrens laughter filled my ears.

"Oh, you're gonna get it" I mustered, breaking their moment of happiness. I lifted my suction-cupped cheek off the wood floor and struggled to get on my feet. With Jake in the lead, he opened the basement door and passed swiftly down stairs, Blake and Tommy hot on his heels. I debated giving up. I mean, clearly the boys were enjoying my pain. Who knew catching them could be another episode of mission impossible.

I crept down the stairs, realizing that the rock music had stopped a little while ago. Now I was accompanied with silence. "Are we even allowed down here" I whispered, shaking my head. I took a large step, closing the distance between the door and I. Okay, stay light on your feet. Take your time. There is no way they are getting past you again. Enough brain pep talk; its action time.

There was already a crack in the door, so (being an idiot) I attempted to slip through. Instead of keeping quiet, I banged my elbow on it and the door hit the wall with a loud 'thud'. Smooth Bayley, real smooth. My eyes quickly scanned over the basement. A big T.V. sat in the center with a beige sectional couch against the wall. On the other side of the room, there was a mini kitchen decorated in granite countertops. I must admit, it was a nice place to rent out. Nothing like the sketchy apartments and dorms in California. My older sister is in college, so I have been to my fair share of places that she could afford. Then that disturbing memory popped into my head of the hole in her bathroom wall......okay now is not the time to think about that.

Suddenly, I could faintly make out giggling at the end of the hallway. A sly smile replaced my face, and I imagined fireworks exploding in my head. Victory was so sweet.

I started down the dimly lit hallway, looking back every so often to make sure there was nobody sneaking up on me. At the end of the hallway was a red door with spraypainted letters that read "I'm always busy so leave me alone." I laughed at myself for immediately thinking about the dreamworld in insidious. Scary movies could keep me paranoid for weeks, but that doesn't stop me from renting one every Friday night.

I really hoped that what I heard was real and not my imagination, because walking through someone else's basement was a little creepy, especially if their home. I looked back once again and saw a big black thing a couple feet away. Was that a person? I squinted at the object masked by darkness. Hmm It sort of had the shape of a vacuum, plus there was a black string attached on the side....

Smack! Out of nowhere, I felt something warm come in contact with my body. The blow was enough to knock me down, accidentally taking whoever it was with me. We hit the ground hard, and I felt a jab of pain in my ankle. Plus something heavy, pinning me down. What the heck? Who's on top of me?

"Ugh" said a deep, husky voice. My eyes widened, and as my first instinct in this situation, I began throwing punch after punch at the guy holding me down.

"Get... Off... Me!" I shrieked while going into panic mode. He slowly pushed himself up into a sitting position, but stayed on top of my body. I made my hits harder. Each one pounded against his hard chest, barely affecting him.

"Argh, Stop!!" The stranger grabbed my wrists out of the air and forced them at my sides. Furious now, I wriggled around from underneath him but it was no use. After what felt like a decade of wrestling around, I groaned, accepting defeat.

"Better" he said. Cautiously, I lifted my eyes up to his, and my breath caught in my throat. Oh my gosh. In front of me was most likely the hottest guy I have ever seen. He looked about my age, with messy black hair and deep brown eyes. Not to mention his muscular chest which I had punched to death not even seconds ago. He met my eyes and a smirk played across his lips. I...uh....well...this is awkward.

"Hey sweetheart" he said with a wink. I felt my stomach do a backflip, and I blinked a couple times, taking it all in. Was this really happening? Or was I just daydreaming again in math class? I swallowed nervously, and fought to put together a sentence.

"Uh, hi" I replied quickly, "Mind getting off me?" I realized the position we were in, and my face heated up right away. There was a mischevious sparkle in his eyes, and suddenly the smile got bigger, until he was grinning like the cheshire cat.

"Naw, I'm enjoying this too much" he said in a deep, sexy voice. His perfect face pulled closer and closer until he was merely centimeters away. His hot breath mixed with mine and those deep brown eyes held me captive. It wasn't long until I would faint from lack of oxygen.

"I'm Jaxon" he whispered, "What's your name, beautiful?" Huh what was it again? I think it started with B..... Or maybe it was C.... Ahh just answer back!! Don't come off as retarded! I cleared my throat.

"Why do you need to know?"

Did I really just say that?! I mentally slapped myself over and over until I was unconcious. Who asks why they want to know your name? Oh I don't know, maybe to know WHO YOU ARE! Uh I'm terrible at first impressions.

Jaxon chuckled adorably, "You're a fiesty one. I was just curious, I like knowing the girl's name i'm straddling." Yeah, about that....

In one swift motion I freed myself from his grasp and stood up, knocking him sideways. Ha ha haa! Look who's laughing now.

"Well, it's been a real nice chat, but I should probably get back to my job" I said, and with that, I waltzed down the hallway and opened up the bathroom door. Three familiar faces stared up at me, laughing and pointing at the boy.

"What?" I asked quickly. Um what exactly did they see? This won't be good.

" Jaxon and Bayley, sittin in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-" I snapped my hand around Jakes mouth, and the other little boys erupted into laughter. My cheeks flushed red as I took their hands and dragged them down the hallway. As I passed Jaxon leaning against the wall, my heart was a couple beats faster than normal. I felt his eyes on my back while I thrust open the stairdoor. Then a certain someone's voice made me stop in my tracks.

"Until we meet again, Bayley."
