Not for the first time did Bucky wonder if the world remembered that Percy Jackson existed. He wasn't sure how anyone could forget him. The son of Poseidon seemed to layered with brutal honesty, deep secrets, and something so sad it made the soldier want to just sit down and cry sometimes. He could see it in the way the demigod held himself, his stance open and kind but his eyes weary like he has been harmed so many times, he couldn't help but expect the disappointment. Moments like those made Bucky wonder how he could even be standing, how he was able to walk and talk as if nothing ever happened to him.

"You alright?" Percy asked, glancing at Bucky from where he was driving. There was no destination in mind, no worries about timetables or meetings. They were just driving to drive. If someone really wanted a reason, they could say they were putting as much distance between themselves and their problems before it all eventually caught up again. "You seem a little out of it."

Bucky looked up at the concern in the green eyes, at how Percy had focused on him in that moment and only saw someone's struggles. Did anyone ever look at the demigod and see his? "I'm... I'll be fine."

Tony reached over and gripped his metal hand, lifting up the fingers one-by-one and dropping them gently, "We all will be. Maybe not now but... I have hope for the future."

Right there, that line... It didn't sit right with Bucky. It wasn't because he had no hope. No, that wasn't it. It was because Percy had told him once when they were alone at the tower one of the first few days... They, Percy and Bucky, are the past and Tony is the future, with his thinking and inventions and just radiant smile that reminded you that you could build yourself again when everyone tears you apart. Bucky and Percy, they had yet to do that, to build themselves and find what it was they were once before. They were stuck on a Ferris wheel with no way down and all they wanted to do was feel the ground again.

"Hope for the future, huh?" Percy smiled in a way that said he was thinking everything Bucky was and feeling the way his wheel was just too high to come down.

"What else is there to hope for?" Tony shrugged, looking out the window.

Bucky followed his gaze, watching the passing cars, the towering skyscrapers. It should have overwhelmed him but it was so damn beautiful that, sometimes, Bucky forgot to breathe. "I don't know, Doll... I'm sure there's other things."

Tony glanced at him for a moment before his mouth twitched up in a small smile, "Maybe there is."

"You both are cute," Percy spoke up, a grin on his face. "And I hate to stop this but we're here."

The two men looked out the window again, realizing the car had stopped, and a sense of calm washed over them when the doors opened. Bucky had never been there before while Tony had once on a date that was one of the best days of his life.

Montauk Beach was beautiful at this time of the day, the waves rolling gently on the sand and the stars just barely visible in the setting sky. The cabin was large and looked well-taken care of even when there were no footprints visible in front of the doors. The sounds of New York seemed to fade in the background in the face of the ocean and the gentle breeze, like there was a separate world that kept away the pain and the suffering of the normal.

When Percy exited the car, it was like the sea breathed with him, the waves moving back and forth in time with his steps. It was at that moment that Bucky truly realized how powerful the other was. With all he joked around and ran a mile-a-minute, it was easy to forget that the man had fought in two wars, lost too much of his family, and still came back fighting.

"My mom and I would always come here when everything became too much," Percy spoke after the trio stood in silence for a moment. "I wanted to share this all with you two. The cabin, the beach, the... Just all of this. It reminds me that there's other things out there than just monsters."

There was a moment where the waves crashed hard against the sand, bits of shell and other items scattering a bit, but Bucky paid it no mind as he looked into Percy's eyes. There was something lost there, as if he was mourning the mother Bucky knew was alive and well. It made no sense, none at all, and the soldier knew the more he got to know the demigod, the more mysteries he would discover. It baffled him that he couldn't find much information about Percy except what he was told. It was hard for him to even find out that he was a demigod and that was only because some HYDRA agents fucked up.

"You keep spacing out, Snowflake," Tony said, looking up at him with his chocolate brown eyes. "Everything alright?"

"Yeah, it's just... Been a day," Bucky spoke honestly, shrugging his shoulders. He blinked in surprise when his right hand was grabbed. He wasn't expecting to see Percy holding his hand, his eyes not meeting his as he led him over to the cabin. There was something almost sweet in the gesture as he gripped his hand tightly for a moment, like he was telling him that he was there for him.

That moment, with how Tony and Percy interacted with him, showed how their relationship worked. Despite appearances, Tony was the more affectionate one, able to show his appreciation to people through hugs, pats, or even just holding hands. Percy, though he laughed and joked around, rarely touched anyone unless it was Tony or if he was bullying Clint for no reason other than he could. The fact that Percy stuck so close to him when Bucky first arrived at the Tower baffled him. He had witnessed the demigod barely hold in a hiss when Steve barely brushed his arm. He felt honored that he was even still comfortable enough to hold his hand even after all he found out. Then again, maybe Bucky and Percy weren't that different after all.

He blinked, breaking himself out of his thoughts as he fully entered the cabin. The inside was well taken care of just like the outside as if someone came in just to clean around, never to stay. The main area was an open floor with a small kitchen tucked into the corner, an oven, microwave, coffee maker, and fridge present. There was a small fireplace towards their right with one large couch and a worn but comfy-looking armchair. Scattered about were some books, one open as if someone would come back to pick up where they left off.

In front of him through a doorway was a room with two beds, each made perfectly with soft grey and blue bedsheets and pillows. There was a desk he could see tucked against a wall in front of a window looking out at the ocean waves. Everything was made with such care and with a sense of gentleness that Bucky was almost afraid to touch anything in fear of shattering the peace the place radiated.

"This place," Bucky took another look around as he went over to the couch, running his hand over a hand-made quilt as if it was glass. "It's beautiful."

Tony nodded, sitting down on the armchair with a sigh. "I'm so glad to be out of the Tower. It was... Stifling."

Percy laid across the couch Bucky stood next to, covering his eyes with one of his arms and releasing a long breath like a heavy weight was lifted from his chest and he could finally relax. "I thought I'd actually murder someone today. Almost ruined my good streak."

Bucky snorted, "Good streak? You broke someone's fingers and tripped Steve down the stairs."

"Shit you saw that one?" Percy sat up as if he was worried, though the grin on his face gave him away. "What're you standing there for?" He snatched Bucky's metal hand, tugging him down so he laid on top of him. The soldier was not light by any means, his prosthetic and muscles making him a bit heavy, but the demigod just sighed in contentment as he carded his hand through Bucky's hair and left his other one a bit above his waist.

Bucky was worried at first about how Tony would feel about their position. Though they flirted a lot and maybe there was something going on between the three of them, he wasn't sure if it was anything serious. The genius stood up, a soft smile on his face as he leaned forward to kiss Percy, who tilted his head back like he knew what his lover wanted without saying anything. Bucky's mind blue-screened when Tony kissed him sweetly and he could feel the man's smile against his lips like he knew exactly what he was doing to him.

Huh, so maybe there was something serious after all.
