Jessica wasn't upset. She wasn't. Jack was adamant about the fact that she was staying with the X-Men and not with him. Clint was super nice and funny, almost like a big brother or dad. She shouldn't be sad that they left her so quickly. They barely knew her.

"I will show you to your room now," Charles Xavier smiled, moving ahead in his wheelchair.

The man was nice, if not a little bland, and he smiled like he was actively reading her mind despite the fact that he said he wouldn't without permission. It was highly disconcerting. Maybe she picked up Jack's paranoia.

"So, who are you?" Jessica asked the big man next to her with a permanent scowl. "Wait, let me guess, you're Logan?"

The man looked surprised, uncrossing his arms for a moment. "You know who I am?"

"He's not that tall but he has muscles for days and an ass that just won't quit." She sounded like she was parroting someone but she took glee in the look on Logan's face. "That's what Clint said. I took a guess."

Logan rolled his eyes. "God, you're just like them."

"Why, thank you."

"That wasn't a compliment."

Jessica grinned cheekily. "I know but I'll take it as one anyways. Jack will rule the world and Clint will drink the coffee supply."

Logan sighed heavily, shaking his head. "I hate how true that is. Charles, I'm heading to my room. You handle this one."

"Of course. Have a nice night, Logan."

Jessica watched him leave before turning to Charles. "I'm not going to like it here."

Charles nodded solemnly, a sympathetic smile on his face. "I know, my dear."

Logan shook his head as he went down a hallway towards his bedroom. Charles should have just sent someone over to pick up the girl instead of letting Jackson and Barton take care of her. Now she was going to be all emotional because she got attached and they left her behind. She was going to be a terror to deal with. Someone had to take her off their hands.

Logan's prayers were answered as he opened his bedroom door and was met with a pistol aimed at his face.

"Move out of my way." Jackson's voice was deadly as he gripped the gun. He didn't seem worried about the fact that his aim wouldn't be true. From the look in his eyes, he would will it to be true if he had to.

"You know that won't do anything, bub," Logan said amusedly, crossing his arms and leaning against the doorway.

Jackson's hold on the weapon only tightened. "I will not hesitate to drown you in a bubble of water right here, right now." He glared at him. "And I'll do it over and over again. Now, move because I'm really not in the mood to do one of our little games."

Clint was just standing to the side, his phone up as he recorded the interaction. Part of it was to show Jessica and the Avengers, the other to show Percy himself. Percy had a strange attachment to Logan and he'd be devastated once he realized what he had said and done to him later.

Logan stepped aside, nodding to the hall behind him. "Go on. She's on the third floor."

"Thank you." Percy smiled, blowing a kiss at the mutant and cackling when he gave a disgusted face in return. "You won't regret this."

"I already do."

"Yeah, I know. Come on, Barton. We have a spider girl to kidnap."

"Where should I put my stuff?" Jessica asked when they finally arrived to a room. "I mean, am I getting a roommate or..?"

Charles shook his head, a small smile on his face. "I do believe you aren't staying her. Isn't that right, Mr. Jackson?"

Jessica turned around fast to find Jack and Clint standing there, the archer holding his phone while Jack looked like he was ready to pistol-whip Charles on his bald head.

"What- What're you guys doing here?"

Jack ignored her, as usual, and focused on Charles. "The girl is coming with us."

"Your mind is in chaos," Charles spoke as if there wasn't a weapon being aimed at his face. "I can't pick one single thought from it."

"ADHD, bitch."

The older man's mouth quirked up a bit. "I'm sure that's some of it, Mr. Jackson. You keep everything bottled inside. You refuse to talk to anyone."

"Don't psychoanalyze me." Jack growled, tightening his grip on the weapon.

"You must realize how unhealthy it is. You're sad and feel alone even when you stand next to peers."

Jessica saw the way Jack's free hand shook minutely by his side and she took a half-step forward. "Hey, cut it out."

Charles went on, a curious look in his eyes. "They don't know, do they? They don't know what really happened that day. You-"

"I said cut it out!" Jessica shouted, stomping her foot so hard the floor cracked a bit. She had half a mind to question about it but she was in the process of protecting Jack. Jack didn't deserve to have all his problems aired out for everyone to hear. Charles had promised that he wouldn't read someone's mind without permission.

Clearly, he lied.

Jessica already knew that Jack had been hurt and was still hurting. She knew that he was mean to her because he was scared to get close, scared to let someone get to know him. She knew that he had the Avengers and his boyfriends and all of the people he collected. She didn't doubt that they all had their own problems too, and that's why he latched onto them.

Jack always looked one second away from drifting off whenever he didn't notice or care that she was looking at him.

It was time she latched on to him and didn't let go.

"You made a promise and you broke it." Jessica glowered at Charles. "I don't care if it was to help him or whatever you're going to try and say. You broke your promise. Thanks for the offer but I don't think this academy is the right fit for me."

There was silence as Jack stared at her in a stunned manner while Clint beamed like a proud parent (and, yes, she heard all about his kids. Still didn't mean she believed they existed).

"Well done, kiddo!" Clint threw an arm around her shoulder, shaking her lightly as he laughed. "Come on, we got company outside."

Jack shook himself out of whatever trance he was in and looked at his best friend. "We do?"

Charles had let himself out of the room, shaking his head as he smiled to himself. The girl was in good hands. Maybe she could help the son of Poseidon finally find peace within himself.

"Hell yeah we do! You really think I'm going to drive across country with you and your voodoo cryptid powers? I called Tony."

Jessica realized just who the archer was talking about when she saw how Jack visibly relaxed at the name. "Wait, Tony Stark? I'm going to meet Iron Man?"

"Amongst others," Clint nodded. He pouted. "How come you never got this excited with me?"

"I got to know you."

"That's fair."

Percy grinned, shaking his head. "Come on, Girl. Let's go introduce you to the team."

Jessica beamed, bouncing in place excitedly. "Yeah, let's go!"

The three made their way back outside, Jack grabbing Jessica's bag from her and throwing it over his own shoulder. There was a quinjet parked outside and mutants gawked at it from their windows. The Avengers and someone with a metal arm were already waiting outside, all of them chatting amongst each other as they waited for Jack, Clint, and Jessica.

When they turned to her, Jessica took one look at Captain America and aggressively said fuck.
