A One Shot Christmas
By: SelinaKyle21

It was a cold, dark, stormy Christmas morning when I got out of our queen sized bed. It had been so cold the night before that I had to bundle myself up in massive amounts of blankets. When my eyes had adjusted to the sparkling silver gray clouds I looked to see that I had been tangled up into a cocoon of blankets.

I laughed at myself, and tried to untangle out of the sheets, but failed miserably at it and fell right off the bed still entangled in my blankets. Sighing, I decided to unroll myself out of the mess I had made for myself. Johnny had told me last night that I was an idiot and that I didn't need so many to cover myself up with, but I didn't want to listen to him. Instead I peered into his narrowing gray eyes, and stuck my tongue out at him like a petulant child.

He was the love of my life having been with him for four years to the very day. Back in high school, he and I had dated for awhile, but had broken it off just before we had graduated. It wasn't until we left for college that fall, that we had gotten back in touch with each other. It wasn't until Christmas day during our winter break from college that we had made it official again.

You see, we couldn't get one another out of our heads, and on Christmas day we knew we wanted to be with each other for the rest of our lives. That brings us to today, on our four year anniversary, and Christmas day.

"Avery, babe? Where are you? We have to go over to your parents' house at twelve today? Where the hell are you?" he said walking over to the other side of the bed where I was stuck in a web of bedding. He looked like he was going to laugh, but he tried so hard to keep it inside that he was practically bursting at the seams.

"Laugh it up now pretty boy, but please help me get out of this crap, I am literally stuck, and even rolling doesn't help me out of this," I was hopeless. I was always cold, even when the temperatures weren't that bad, I still wore cozy clothes. My grandmother always told me as a child that I had pee for blood, because I was cold. I'm not even sure how that would make a person any more cold than a person with regular blood, but that was my grandma. She always said some weird stuff.

He bent down to help me, laughing as he did so. I knew he was going to say I told you so, it was in his nature, I was just waiting for him to say it. 3...2...1... Here it comes.

"See I fucking told you not to use all of these stupid blankets babe, now look what happened," He chuckled. I stared at him resembling that cat they always called grumpy, and didn't say anything.

"Well don't look at me like that, I did tell you, didn't I?" I rolled my eyes at him muttering a yes, not looking him in the eyes. "Sometimes I swear I think you are a child in a woman's body. Does that sound weird? Probably, scratch that, but you know what I mean."

He ended up pulling one of the edges of the blanket really hard causing me to roll around even more. I swear I looked like a crash test dummy, I felt like a crash dummy, or what they would probably feel like if they were real life people. Johnny held out his hand for me to grab, pulling me up with his muscled, well toned arms.

"Thanks babe," I say sneaking in for a kiss, before heading towards the bathroom.

Once I got ready we headed over to my parents' house for a Christmas day linner. Our car ride was brief since my parents only lived fifteen minutes away from us, but we enjoyed the ride with random talk. I was actually surprised Johnny didn't bring up our anniversary, he usually never forgot about it. It was an important thing to me, but not once since I had awoke, did Johnny mention it. I was slightly worried that he had forgotten, but I didn't want to bring it to his attention, after all Christmas was an important event already that I'm sure he was worried about that more.

When we arrived at my parents I could see others starting to pull up as well. I knew that my parents had invested a lot of time, and money into Christmas every year, but it's what they loved doing. I knew that they loved Christmas as much as I, so I knew it was going to be a huge event, just like every year before. I looked at the car to see who it was, and waved seeing that it was Johnny's parents. They walked over to us and gave us both great big bear hugs and we all walked in together.

My parents had invited a lot of people. My grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousins, Johnny's parents, uncle, and grandparents. Lily, her parents and even Johnny's best friend, Jason and his parents. Christmas Eve everyone usually everyone spent it with their families, but everyone that we loved and cared about came to our house on Christmas day. It was a big thing my mother implored on having with everyone to stay connected with each other. I loved it, everything about Christmas made me happy, the lights, and the happiness of everyone around me, it brought joy to my heart. Plus it meant another year being in love with the man of my dreams.

Everyone showed up of course and by two o'clock we were eating my moms famous honey glazed ham, and laughing and talking by the fireplace in my living room. It was a fun afternoon, catching up with my family, and friends, and just relaxing by the fire wrapped in strong secure arms. When it was announced by my mother that it was time to exchange gifts we all grabbed for the presents passing them around. I received some comfy pajamas, and a Blu ray set of my favorite shows, and some money and cards. Johnny pretty much received the same things from everyone.

"Oh look, someone forgot a christmas gift under the tree," Lily had said. Johnny went over to the tree and picked it up examining it.

"You're right Lily, looks like it's for Avery," he smiled, handing it to me. I examined it, it was a small square shaped object wrapped in red wrapping paper with santa claus on it. I smiled.

"It doesn't say who it's from," I chuckled. "Who got this for me," I paused ripping it open. It was a small blue velvet shaped jewelry box. I gasped as I opened it. Inside was a platinum band with a simple white diamond.

Getting down on one knee Johnny said, "I did." He grabbed the box from my hand taking the diamond ring out of the box and looking into my bright blue eyes with his gray eyes. "Beautiful, crazy, slightly immature, wonderful girl, with you please, please complete me by marrying me?" he asked me looking slightly worried.

"Yes you idiot," I beamed. He put the ring on my finger and pulled me to him planting his perfect lips onto mine, we sat there kissing for a while before I heard someone say to 'get a room'. I giggled breaking away from the kiss.

"Well I think today has been the best anniversary we've ever had babe," Johnny smiled. "Maybe we can top it by getting married on our next one," he continued.

"I think you may be right," I said snuggling into him by the fire. "Merry Christmas, and happy anniversary," I added.

"Merry Christmas, and happy anniversary, babe," he smiled. As we looked into our eyes full of plans our lives together would make.

The End
